They don't always skip over the gravel trap. If anything they're meant to dig in. Very rarely does an F1 car flip over in gravel these days, in fact I don't remember that happening since the '90s.
The racing at Watkins Glen got a whole lot better when they replaced asphalt for the grass and gravel traps. Just take a look at this years nascar race at watkins glen. At least the last lap.
is a mix of all circuit..... the first curve is from barhain the 3/6 curves are from suzuka ... the stright is from Korea , the last 3 curves are from Turkey
Good point, I do understand the safety aspect, I guess I'd just rather there be a happy medium where you pay for making the mistake but only in lap time, not physically. I think Webber suggested last year there be some kind of asphalt that slows you down more. Maybe something like that.
I really enjoyed the race.. Once they got rubber on the track after practice it really took off with a lot of passing. I just hope the troll doesn't do something to stop F1 from returning.
I think your cool and would enjoy watching f1 with you. I'd also like to see grosjean win too. He's fast but has too many accidents. maybe next year he'll have alot less crashes.
I believe that the facility was just painting parts of the track last week, that I'd heard anyway... There are still definitely some items remaining, before it's fully completed.
The track officials have already said why they lack gravel traps. They have more than just f1 coming to this track. They got bikes coming here to. Because of that, they had to limit there gravel traps.
lol thanks! specially cause in F! everyone has a different opion. i like grosjean, he's blumbling but i like his style, def in a soon future he will be among the best. he just has to concentrate on not getting envolved in too many accients. Of course i like alonso por example, but he's too boring, he cant accept other drivers passin thru him, specially massa and vettel lol. but he's by far the best driver currently
Well that sounds about right, but di resta and hulkenburg haven't got their contracts renewed as far as i know and perez is a bad ass. We do got two drivers coming up though conner daly and the other one that drives for caterham. it all depends on them. we'll just have to wait and see. i'd like to see di resta win a championship. that would be awesome.
Me too, id love to see the new generation winning! id say that id rather see hulkenberg win than see di resta, he's kinda more dashing than di resta, they just dont have the best car. if evry year a new driver won a championship, thatd be much better for the public, for the drivers obvsly it woulndt
i think our track is awesome! Now all we need is a american driver that can win. It's time to prove that we can go fast not only on an oval but a road course too.
Why yes I've heard of them and watch the indy series. I kinda quit when dumica patrick was racing, but since she went to nascar. I've started watching again. I like ryan hunter reay. The only thing I don't like is that they run ovals too. I still think their awesome cars and drivers. I would like to see a american win f1 event to show that we can win at that too.
Nice looking track, but they're going to have to put on one hell of a show for this place to earn a little character.... Put some grass and barriers in there already! Make the drivers fear making mistakes!
I thought (was hoping) the S's would be faster. That bending triple/quad apex right hander looks awesome though. Does anyone else think the first turn and going back down hill is similar to Brazil?
Do you understand how dangerous it is for any car (at speed) to slide into a gravel or grass trap? In the grass they loose virtually all grip and can end up sliding towards a wall at speed. In the gravel/sand traps, the car is likely to skip along the top of the surface until a tire or wing digs in and basically launches it end over end. Do I agree that the asphalt runoff areas are abused sometimes? Yes. But are they completely necessary for the safety of drivers? Absolutely.
Officials have said why they lack gravel traps. Formula 1 is not the only series racing here. Moto Gp is coming here to. They did not like the idea of there drivers getting hurt on those traps, This is why COTA doesn't have many gravel traps. But i guess you don't care. You'd rather have Moto GP riders risk there lives on this track just for Formula 1 drivers can "fear making mistakes.".
Obscure the lower half of your field of view with a fridge, then place a microwave oven at the end. Notice how it's just a tad more obstructive than a thumb.
Not Technically, literaly! just like i am american ( south american,Brazil) i was just saying that an american from USA may not win in the next years. im tired of having europeans winning every year! its time for a change! but looks like teams prefer to have europeans than having other drivers from around the world!
He's never really looking in a straight line. I know it sounds bizarre but open wheel racing drivers are looking in corners, looking for the next apex. So having a GoPro on the end of the car doesn't do too much to his view because he is rarely looking right down the nose of the car
Thanks for sharing this insight. Looking forward to driving this circuit asap.
This is going the be a great track for racing I love all the elevation changes. I should be a great race to watch this coming November!!
COTA person who posted this, you owe it to the world to post the high definition version of this video. YOU OWE IT TO US. *shakes fist*
first corner looks crazy. The scenery is little plain but when the drivers are looking up at the sky half the time i guess that doesnt matter :P
There will be chaos at first lap.. man, can't wait :D
Let's get one more upload in full 1080!
Can't wait to sit in Turn 4 in November!
0:45 on left that's my dads crane
Good driving Jérôme !
They don't always skip over the gravel trap. If anything they're meant to dig in. Very rarely does an F1 car flip over in gravel these days, in fact I don't remember that happening since the '90s.
i was just there sunday. man, that tower is as a big as the capitol!
I couldn't agree more.

a nascar in the grass and an f1 car in the grass are two completely different things my friend
There is a rumour that Grosjean approves the first turn
Oval tracks are what MADE IndyCar. They need to run more.
Good point, I do understand the safety aspect, I guess I'd just rather there be a happy medium where you pay for making the mistake but only in lap time, not physically. I think Webber suggested last year there be some kind of asphalt that slows you down more. Maybe something like that.
I look forward to it, and I hope for Lotus' sake they used an old car and demonstration tyres only.
I really enjoyed the race.. Once they got rubber on the track after practice it really took off with a lot of passing. I just hope the troll doesn't do something to stop F1 from returning.
Awesome!!! The US GP is in Nov. 18. That's my birthday! Hood birthday present! Don't you think?
Wow, it's so wide. We may get to see some great overtaking, here's hoping!
Get Michael Lewis the Californian assassin to try it, MJL rocks.
I think your cool and would enjoy watching f1 with you. I'd also like to see grosjean win too. He's fast but has too many accidents. maybe next year he'll have alot less crashes.
I forgot that the prerequisite for racing a car or circuit was that you have to get hurt if you make a mistake.
I believe that the facility was just painting parts of the track last week, that I'd heard anyway... There are still definitely some items remaining, before it's fully completed.
whatever floats your boat.
The track officials have already said why they lack gravel traps. They have more than just f1 coming to this track. They got bikes coming here to. Because of that, they had to limit there gravel traps.

Makes it easier for bonehead drivers to get away with bonehead mistakes, there's no need for it, IMO, at any level
FIA grade 1 licensed circuits requires long run-off tarmac areas :)
Ever hear of IZOD? American open wheel racing? Pretty damn fast around road and street courses? Ryan Hunter Reay, an American, won the championship?
Nice looking track, but they're going to have to put on one hell of a show for this place to earn a little character.... Put some grass and barriers in there already! Make the drivers fear making mistakes!
Keep your eyes on Alex Rossi & Conor Daly...
they are still in the process of adding grass, there is already a lot down though
I thought (was hoping) the S's would be faster. That bending triple/quad apex right hander looks awesome though. Does anyone else think the first turn and going back down hill is similar to Brazil?
Yes, but the GoPro is over twice the distance of an outstretched arm even if it is bigger.
Learn to perspective.
Hopefully all that open space is the car park and not the run off area
Lol cool
i see turn 1 and the end of the back straight as overtaking spots, but no where else. hopefully this is not another abu dhabi =/
How the hell does he see around the gopro on the front??
Why are the kerbs solid white? Looks kind of wierd.
это жером дамброзио,на 0:28 четко видна фамилия на болиде=))
My guess is the finished, edited video will be 1080p
I hope so. there both fast and have won races in f3000
Грожан какбэ одобряе первый поворот....
needs some rubber
Impressive circuit.Different of any other in F1. D´ambrosio made a "walking" lap. Even SC can do it faster XD
Why in the world is this not in HD?
Maybe... like I was trying to show that I know the rules, but of course they followed the rules. I did have a weird day yesterday.
Why, to stop them pushing? Leave the space open for more speeds and great brave battles ....
Is the first lap Grosjean and Maldonado proof?
I don't understand your comment. The point is to not get them in the grass.
why do the first lap they should let the driver get a feel for the track and then put a quick lap time in to see what it would be like
The 1st sector looks good, but the last looks sucks
Nice relief
fuck, my phone was hovered

this track has no soul
looks like second valencia
I can tell you for sure that I won't complete a lap on this car, but that's not the point.
Seriously, 360p?
Yeah, especially since they are filming on GoPros!! WTF COTA?
Why have so many cars in F1 have shampoo sponsoring?
Technically Perez is american.
keep the camera facing forward dammit! i dont need to see the drivers helmet!
Obscure the lower half of your field of view with a fridge, then place a microwave oven at the end.
Notice how it's just a tad more obstructive than a thumb.
No HD blows.
Not Technically, literaly! just like i am american ( south american,Brazil) i was just saying that an american from USA may not win in the next years. im tired of having europeans winning every year! its time for a change! but looks like teams prefer to have europeans than having other drivers from around the world!
Я знаю
why so slow lap? :)
Someone unfortunately doesn't know how to merge the different camera recordings together very well, or has some really junk software!....
I'm not trying to compare INDY car performance to F1, but, you'd be hard pressed to find anything to outrun an INDY car besides a Formula 1 racer...
You obviously know nothing about F1 if serious.
oh, really?)) first of all you have to find a clutch button...and do some other "very easy things"... and maybe then start your flying lap
I could drive faster than this.
F1 back in the USA. now only if someone aside from Tilke designed it. It would be better. He sucks!
2 minutes per lap is bad.
Circuit pianos are crap
