    Good video brother! Very fond of your setup sharing. May I ask if I could use a different model of printer, using EPSON LW-1000p? In our local southeast asia market, very difficult to get EPSON LW PX800 model

      @PaloFishing  Před 2 lety

      Absolutely! But I also recognize it may not be practical for everyone due to subscription fees. I haven’t played with it very much, but I think Canva would also work well.

      Canva works ok. I'm still figuring out how to import images that are copied from the internet and have the image quality printable. Using both dither and approximation isn't working yet.

    Thanks for sharing your setup! Just started printing my own decals with a colour laser and water slide. The laser etched it pretty good with no run off though i still put CP and epoxy over. But i doubt it'll match the metallic shine yours get... and i don't get white :)

    Hi Sam I got the same Epson lw-px800 label maker it works great! thank you , however my edges on the decals keep coming up after I apply
    epoxy. Most of my builds are light wt rods I get from mudhole, the CRB brands most times. The epoxy appears to go underneath,
    I have tried wrapping the decal for a few hours before I apply the epoxy, letting the epoxy "cool" like 20mins, I put a thin coat on , when
    just a little tacky put the decal on, all no good. I heard that the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Polish, Invisible works to seal the edges
    just wondering what you think. Because of course I want my Customers to be happy , any suggests

    • @PaloFishing
      @PaloFishing  Před 2 lety

      Hey Gary, I definitely feel your pain. A few things I would check:
      1. Blank has been adequately cleaned before applying decal. I like to use an alcohol wipe and then follow up with some clear tape (think of how you prep your phone for a new screen protector
      2. I would make sure to apply a heavy amount of epoxy before trying to spread it with your brush (try to prevent the brush coming in direct contact with decal)
      3. Reduce the amount of heat (or change heat source) you’re using on your finish. I personally use a heat gun.
      4. Consider applying finish at higher RPM if possible.
      5. Consider using a different finish. It’s a low probability that you have a bad batch, but still something I would consider changing.
      6. Try using a different roll of tape (you may just have had a bad roll).
      I know this isn’t a very clear answer, but it’s the way I would go about figuring out how to resolve this issue. Best of luck. Sam

      I learned a few weeks ago from an old rod builder that fresh epoxy can cause the edges to lift on decals because it is still heating up. He told me to stop that from happening he mixes a little and lets it set for a few minutes before applying so it is not as "hot" when the epoxy is installed. I haven't had a chance to test this theory as of yet.

      @@randallschroder6066 Hi Randall, i tried that too and it still happen. However I found out that if you use CP or nail polish it works great! they both dry clear and you don't have to use but a little

      It's an old post but for anyone else looking for some advice.
      I put on my decal using transfer tape. Make sure the rods good and cleaned. Once the decals on, wrap over it. Like ypure making a long butt wrap. Leave it on for a minute, then cut it off. That seals the decal edges the best I've found.

      There is a tape for printing black on clear tape. It’s really clean, especially on lighter color rods. We use it quite a bit.

    Hi. I need help with making decals. I ordered a custom rod but if u want a custom decal u need to make it yourself. I have some friend that have print shop but the rod builder said that decals are not good. That the letters will not be visible (gold, silver) cuz they are not made the right way. He said that the print is not good. That it needs to be primer white and then gold or silver over the same letters. My guy from print shop Has no idea what the rod builder is talking about and rod builder is not really good at explaining it cuz he is not making his own decals. Print shop that made his decals is not answer or replaying mails. So when u print decals are they made the way rod builder say or do u just print them in color no primer? U mentioned that if a costumer wants colors u give it to a print shop so i guess they do something different from u. Sorry for long comment and bad english.

      I use this printer for most of our rods, and it does an excellent job for silver, gold and white letting. I recently purchased my own printer and now do our colored designs in house. Colored designs do have a white first layer and then are followed with color on top. However, that being said, I still print 80% of my decals with the printer I got from Larry. I would also consider using water slide or printed vinyl for colored decals. Hope this helps.
