I remember these coming thro London bridge station on a cold winter evening, 12 coaches, windows misted up ,and the little table lamps and orange curtains, with the engines throbbing

What a sound they make when pulling hard!
Nice video, pity the location has now gone to pot, just memories now.

2015, Folkestone Harbour station is now a derelict trashed eyesore. Thumpers or any other train could not visit any more. On a lighter note thank god we still have this pair of Thumpers to enjoy. 21C123, thanks for the vid.

Ha! there is nothing more comforting or soothing than the throb of a thumper and the clickity clack of rail joints!

Thank you very much Bob. The sound is certainly fantastic. Used to hear the 205s/207s from my house when they were working on the Hastings-Ashford Marshlink line.

  • @barrythedieselelectricstea5217

excellent shots 👍it's such a shame it's not like that anymore it should still be a working station i have been there 3 times and it looks so sad lines ripped up tall trees both sides weeds covering what's left of the track our rail heritage gone😭

Hastings DEMU and fishplate rail joints bring back terrible memories for people of a certain age. The Hither Green Disaster of 1967.

I'd never heard of these 'Thumpers' before (being northern!) but they sound superb, just like a baby class 37 but more gentle, sort of. I like Folkstone, and think it's such a shame they ever stopped sailing from there, with the loss of all the business etc. But that gradient is fascinating, and it's wonderful to see something powering up it, especially this pair of 'Thumpers'.

You thought you had it bad, apparently over at Tunbridge Wells West they used to leave the 205s and 207s idling overnight in the sidings in winter. The local residents were not amused ;)

Unfortunately the branch officially closed as of March 20. But I think Im right in saying the station and viaduct can't be demolished because it is listed, and I think a preservation group wants to buy it. I hope so anyway. Wouldn't be right to let one of the last operable harbour branches close. Awesome video, nice.

so sad a preservation society didn't have it they have done the station up but it's not the same and the viaduct but the rest of it is a disgrace lines ripped up tall trees weeds😡 it should have been a heritage railway

At 1:10, there’s a number that was changed to “82” on the lead car; what does That number indicate?

And replace it with what exactly? The seating in that coach brings in badly needed revenue for the Hastings Diesels Ltd group which will ultimately keep 1001 saved for the future.
