  • This video was created firstly as a thank you to Jon Byne (apologies for saying your surname wrong in the video) for allowing me to keep his video Rail Reflections Volume 2 on my channel. Jon will be uploading more rail videos to his channel to watch them please go to:

Secondly, I would like to thank the Toddington Narrow Gauge Railway for their kindness. They allowed me access to unauthorised paths (officially accompanied) to be able to get the best shots for my filming.
The engine was a diesel built in 1985 the details are: Simplex 101HP, works number 101T023 and was originally built to serve Hem Heath Colliery. I hope to turn up again to be able to film one of their steam locomotives.
The following edited information is taken from a newsletter written by Maurice Wilsdon and sent to me by Mike Trapp, Chairman NGR Co. Ltd.:
The Toddington Narrow Gauge Railway’s (officially called NGR.Co.) story begins in 1962 at Ashchurch where the Dowty engineering company had one of its factories. As was the norm in those days, this large employer had various social groups associated with it and one of these was the Dowty Preservation Society. This group of railway enthusiasts used sidings adjacent to the factory and to the Bristol to Birmingham mainline. As time went by, they gathered various locomotives, railway equipment, railway signs etc. The gradual establishment of preserved lines, coupled with growing uncertainty over the continued existence of the site’s connection to the mainline, led to these large locomotives being moved to other sites.
Without going into too much detail here, I will ask if the NGR will allow the newsletter that this small amount of info has come from, to be posted on my Community page for those wishing to know more.
One really pleasing thing for me to see at the Toddington Narrow Gauge Railway was the California Crossing Signal Box which used to be at Gloucester (my home town). For those of you that are interested I have put in a link to a CZcams video showing the removal of the signal box from its location in Gloucester to Tewkesbury where it eventually went to the Ashchurch site. • Moving California Cros...

I had a million opportunities to visit Great Britain, I was interested in everything related to it, but so different from other English-speaking countries, cultivating history, climate, people with a different mentality in my opinion. I have never taken advantage of the fear that my image may not completely coincide with the current reality. Thank you so much for these videos 🤩

Thanks FYooou, I think it's 50/50. You could either come to the UK and have everything you hoped for or be completely disappointed. If you do decide to visit I could recommend a few places for the old world charm. Thank you for your nice comment 🙂

Cool, thanks. Well directed. Saying that as a vet editor of primetime network and cable hits, they usually brought me absolute garbage to work with. Excellent.

Awesome! Living across from a railroad all my life, I have a fondness for trains especially old ones. I've never seen an engine like this. How wonderful to have behind-the-scenes access, too. Thanks for taking us on the ride; the trains are obviously loved and are beautiful. Enjoyed the mini train set, too. Wish I could join you in person when you film the steam engines; they're my favorite. Does the name California Crossing have anything to do with the state? And nice shirt💙❤

Thank you Cowabunga, how wonderful that you lived so close to the railway. Britain lost a lot of railway lines in the 1960s, however, it has meant that there are a lot of heritage lines around the country so we can get to see fabulous steam locomotives and classic diesels. The engine in the video is rather unusual as it was built initially to work in a colliery so glamour wasn't an issue. After a day filming here, I got to quite like this little engine. It's horn was incredibly loud and faced my direction which is why I jump when it blasts. I've been trying to research and find out why it was called California Crossing without success. I will keep asking around though. If you're ever in the UK I would love to show you the old steam engines. Thanks for the compliment about the shirt 🙂💙❤

Thank you Max and Miu Miu, Justine still runs. When we visited with my Grandad we were on Justine. I have a little of Justine on my Rails around Britain copyright strike. The coming weekend it's going to be Chakas Kraal No. 6. I'll try and get some video of where the California Crossing was.

Chaka's Kraal - would that be referring to the Zulu king in South Africa?

  • @StalinLovsMsmZioglowfagz

    How old is it?

Thank you. The engine is 1985. I'll double check the year it opened. There's a little information in the description. I have asked permission for a newsletter given to me to be put on my committee page. I'm waiting for a reply. The people on this railway are really friendly so I'm hopeful. 🙂
