  • We made this video to help you understand the minimum safety requirements for car and driver, to compete in SCCA Hillclimb. I will post links in the comments to the specific rules related to SCCA hillclimb and time trials. We used Willie's car and my car to show the equipment. If we get enough requests, maybe we can convince Willie to allow a feature on his build.
Subscribe for upcoming videos related to the Dragon Hillclimb. We have recorded a tutorial with Willie (two time and reigning King of the Hilll) explaining how he goes so damned fast at the Dragon Hillclimb!
The video is meant to be informational only, and has not been submitted to the SCCA for approval.

Brad can you expand on what you mean by "additional bracing is required on non-SFI approved race seats"? I have a Kirkey all aluminum seat and what additional bracing would I need?

The easiest thing is to search SCCA seat back brace requirements. This will give you exact information. Basically, only FIA rated seats do not require solid attachment to the rollbar.

You mention belt dates are not an issue, what if a seat is out of date?

The rules state: : It is highly recommended that the driver’s seat be replaced with a one-piece bucket type race seat. If used, the
one-piece bucket type race seat shall be securely mounted, so as to provide fore/aft and lateral support. The way this is interpreted by tech inspectors, FIA seats (regardless of date) are fine if securely mounted as designed - non-FIA seats require a seat back brace.

@@GazornanDSR Aweaome. All my seats are FIA, but my favorite is just out of date and would cost a mild fortune to replace. I’ve been considering doing this event for awhile. We shall see how racing goes this year. Thanks, happy new year.
