It quickly became second nature to me, not even having to think about it. It made controlling the bike so much easier, even in tight turns at higher speeds. I always think of turning the bars in the opposite direction you want to go. That way you understand that you can also pull back to turn. pull back on the right side to go left and pulling back on the left side to go right. pulling back on the left side has the safe affect as pushing forward on the right side.
once you push forward on the right side for example, that slightly turns the wheel in left direction. As you make the turn do correct the tire direction or just leave the bike to do its thing.
So the reason you push forward on the right to turn right and left to go left is because the rear of the bike still wants to push forward as it still has forward momentum applied. When you push forward on the right bar, the rear of the bike still pushes forward with the handle bars very slightly turned left which causes the bike to lean to the right, hence right movement. You’re essentially forcing the bike to become unbalanced in a controlled setting. Same works when wanting to go left.
I always think of counter steering as steering the front wheel out from under the line of travel. You turn right for a split second by pushing the left handle bar. You immediately get a lean to the left. Now you turnt your handlebar into a left turn.
Well you are turning the handlebar the opposite direction of what they think. You can use your left hand and pull in on that side and you will go right. It's the same as taking your right hand and pushing out to go right. Think about it
You do it instinctually no matter what, literally impossible to turn any bike over 15mph without counter steering, some people just don't realize what's happening under them
Because the handle bars are higher up on an adventure bike, which makes it easier to tip the bike over with a light press Sport bikes have clip ons the and handles are near the center of gravity. So think of it like tipping over an egg instead of a can of Pringles. The pringles are easier to tip over, but the egg take more effort to tip over as it's more stable at angle
That's for slow maneuvering and especially parking lot maneuvers I highly recommend looking up police motorcycle training videos if you want good information on counter weighting technique, I'm not good enough to teach it correctly. Very very important skill to learn though absolutely arguably more important than counter steering
Countersteering is counter intuitive cuz you would think pushing the right handlebar would point the wheel left and thus turn left and pulling the right handlebar would turn you right. What kinda physics are at work here i wonder
Two wheel physics. In a short snap you get a lean to the rifgt. Then you turn the handlebar into a right turn. The short countersteering snap is jus to get a right hand lean into the rifgthand turn.
No you countersteer on every single turn no matter what above 15 mph, you never actually turn the handle bars in the direction you're going unless you're taking off or coming to a stop. Most people don't even realize they are counter steering, you might be thinking about using your weight to counter the bike for sharp turns, which is a valid technique but that's a different thing with a similar name
@@BodieMoto I really can't understand counter steering. I have watched many videos but everytime I recall what I do on turns, I push the handlebar into the direction I'm going.

Wait… cant you just say keep the bars from turning more than you want them to? Is that really all countersteering is? Keeping your bike from turning itself too much? Why cant anyone just say it? “Dont let your bars turn themselves more than you want”
Kinda, with some bikes you're not just keeping it from turning you're actually applying tons of pressure on the handle bar to turn it in the opposite direction of the turn. With sports bikes you use your lower body and core strength to push the bike over with your weight and then you don't need to apply nearly as pressure on the bars to initiate the lean

dont understand, why would u do that if u can make the same thing but with the body... atleast i think u going to have more control if u lean using the body
It's possible only because rear wheel is much ticker than front one. If you lean bike with wheels different in thickness it has natural tendency to turn in lean direction so to make turn you just need to lean it. That's all.
Not true at all, you even counter steer on road bicycles with 25mm tires.. front and back. Anything with 2 wheels, and 1 hinge need to counter steer at speed to turn, it's simple physics

People need to know what press and push and pull mean
Why is counter steering harder on a sports bike than adventure bike?
Because the handle bars are higher up on an adventure bike, which makes it easier to tip the bike over with a light press
Sport bikes have clip ons the and handles are near the center of gravity. So think of it like tipping over an egg instead of a can of Pringles. The pringles are easier to tip over, but the egg take more effort to tip over as it's more stable at angle
I'm a new driver
How do you turn in low speed?
Exactly e same way, you countersteer the moment the wheels starts turning.
it looks as if the bike dances and we as riders are just dancing along with it.
us mountain bikers have it integrated in the blood riding a motorcycle is just another bicycle but with shifting gears
And what about counter-weight?
That's for slow maneuvering and especially parking lot maneuvers I highly recommend looking up police motorcycle training videos if you want good information on counter weighting technique, I'm not good enough to teach it correctly. Very very important skill to learn though absolutely arguably more important than counter steering
What bike is that?
Countersteering is counter intuitive cuz you would think pushing the right handlebar would point the wheel left and thus turn left and pulling the right handlebar would turn you right. What kinda physics are at work here i wonder
Two wheel physics. In a short snap you get a lean to the rifgt. Then you turn the handlebar into a right turn. The short countersteering snap is jus to get a right hand lean into the rifgthand turn.
Makes no sense in my head but I’ll trust
Expert on an Amazon bike….nuce
I'm no expert 😅
But buddy you're taking easy turns with that. Isn't counter steering for far more sharp corners?
No you countersteer on every single turn no matter what above 15 mph, you never actually turn the handle bars in the direction you're going unless you're taking off or coming to a stop. Most people don't even realize they are counter steering, you might be thinking about using your weight to counter the bike for sharp turns, which is a valid technique but that's a different thing with a similar name
@@BodieMoto yes actually I just reliased it
@@BodieMoto I really can't understand counter steering. I have watched many videos but everytime I recall what I do on turns, I push the handlebar into the direction I'm going.
@@nope9988 if you don't understand it, you're overthinking it.
@@nope9988 same just seems weird all this counter steering, it’s been a while since I’ve rode now but I’m sure I just lean into the corner and turn into it at the same time 🤷♂️
Light pushes or heavy
Depends on whether you wanna live or die.
Depends on the turn
How many miles are you up to
lets try on the road 😁
Wait… cant you just say keep the bars from turning more than you want them to? Is that really all countersteering is? Keeping your bike from turning itself too much? Why cant anyone just say it?
“Dont let your bars turn themselves more than you want”
Kinda, with some bikes you're not just keeping it from turning you're actually applying tons of pressure on the handle bar to turn it in the opposite direction of the turn. With sports bikes you use your lower body and core strength to push the bike over with your weight and then you don't need to apply nearly as pressure on the bars to initiate the lean
@@BodieMoto I take back what I said.. I went riding today, and just cruising without leaning, I pushed forward on one side-INSTANTLY turned, and a big fat light bulb came on 😂
Pushing is only half the story. If you're being aggressive in corners you should be using more pull and a little push.
My physics teacher said push the bar down not forward
Your physics teacher has never ridden a bike
I do both and it works...
Ya you push down on the side you want to turn
@@Player-pj9kt No, you don't.
Tuah
In you can steer a bicycle you’ll be alright👍
100%. Most people don't even need to think about this but it's good to know for emergency swerving
I think of it as a tron bike😂👍
Nice bike.
Your more so pushing down rather than forward
Thing is I’m scared that I’ll fall and damage my bike. I’m from India and started on a ninja 650. Took me 1 CZcams video n Iearnt to ride in 2 hours. But counter steering is something I’m just too scared of.
Don't even think about it too much, just remember that you already know how to counter steer!!! You already do it every time you turn your bike at high speeds. It's hard to "understand" but I promise you already know how to do it, there is NO other way to turn at high speed. The bars automatically counter steer when you lean over, don't over think it too much!
You can't ride a bike without countersteering. It's physically impossible.
dont understand, why would u do that if u can make the same thing but with the body... atleast i think u going to have more control if u lean using the body
You don't get a choice whether you do it or not every single time you turn at speed you are counter steering whether you decide to or not lol
Forward it down im always confused
You press forward on the grip. He clearly states it in his video.
@@countryjoe3551 they say that but it looks different in videos which is why I asked
@@BodieMoto if your wheels are equal in thickness I would like to see you're countersteering trough whole turn... Can you record that. It will be viral movie... 🙂
what bike is this?
Hawk 250
It is exactly what people are thinking, you turn the opposite direction...but just barely
You do turn your steering in the opposite direction thats what you are literally doing you can call it what you want though
But the reason why this works is cause physics
When you turn the opposite direction you move the other way, it takes practice and is worth learning to have very good steering on a motorcycle and control
pretty much needed to be honest.
I dont know why people try to explain it as complicated to understand for the 0815 people.
Little physics understanding and driving a bit with any sort of bike and you should learn it automatically, otherwise you better dont ride anything with 2 wheels
It’s called guided missle 😅
In Philippines they called it Banking. Fuck
People who use tricycle: 💀
Push downward not forward
no
@@BodieMotoanother comment you left said to push down
This seems so crazy to me lol I rode dirtbikes for 10+ yrs but this concept seems so sketchy lol
Think about how you push your bike down underneath you to corner hard, your pushing down on that inside handle bar , your aren't turning your handle bars unless you're doing super slow turns
@@BodieMoto oh yeah I guess your right because your inside arm will extend, and on a street bike your usually gonna be hanging out sticking your leg out lol so I see what you mean now
@@zackavery1129 yeah it's one of those things that's more confusing for experienced riders than it is beginning lol because you've been countersteering your whole life already without anyone telling you to
Isn’t this common sense?
Ya it is if you've ridden a bicycle is the same thing
I still don’t get it and I never will so I’ll never ride because this goes against logic in my brain
Don't think about it too much, It's the same way you turn a bicycle at high speed.
@@BodieMoto And at low speed. Always.
You mean push downward not forward
No I don't, pushing downwards is pointless, pushing forward is what makes that side of the bar go downwards. You can push down if you want but the force of you pushing down is actually pushing the bar forward. It's called counter steering for a reason lol
@@BodieMotoThis is the only thing that finally sort of made sense to me about countersteering!
Push down not forward
no
Noop, forward
