- This DIY Swing was a fun Build! It's made of Eastern Red Cedar and will last for years to come outdoors. My neighbor came to me wanting a nice swing for the back yard and it needed to have the arbor along with it.

Very nice!! Going to build something similar to that this year. It ie probably cheaper to build the swing than purchase, and my swig would be made with better precision, but alas, we'll have to buy the swing.

I finished my first swing last week and never knew there would be that much labor.
There’s a lot involved. That’s why most people are taken aback when i quote them prices on swings.

There are a few in Mississippi that make CZcams Woodworking videos, but Jay Bates is by FAR the biggest. He’s all the way up in Starkville though.

Nice build, the link to your website with the plans does not seem to be working for me.
I just tried and it seems to be functioning properly. I also sold several plans for that last week, so maybe (if you are going from your phone) try a different browser or try to do it from a computer. Thanks for the support and i hope it helps you in making one of your own.
It worked today for me, now I just have to see which of the many styles of bench with arbor my wife likes and I’ll make one for her 60th birthday. Thanks again, jeff

This is the natural color of Eastern Red Cedar, no stain was used.

Excellent swing. I noticed you used brads and glue to attach slats to the frame. How do the slats hold after three years ? Do the slats stay where they suppose to stay ?
They have so far. The brads are really there just to let the glue dry. The glue is always stronger than the wood. You can reference MANY YT videos for confirmation of that.
Looks beautiful! I hat was the name of the finish you sprayed on at the end?
It’s Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane. It’s worked great for me on everything I make for outside.

Hey Brother I'm wanting to use your plans to build this for an arch at my only daughters wedding. I wanted something they could use that would be more then a one time deal. The problem is I made a mistake on the email and didn't realize it untill it was to late. My question is. Do you mail copies of the plans or are they sent via email. If they are sent email. Is there a way to correct this problem so I can still receive the plans I paid for, or do I have to bite the bullet, and buy another set. I know this is an old post, but I hope you still get it. Couldn't figure out how else to get ahold of you. I'm not very internet savvy unfortunately, but I'm working on it. Thank you in advance, and hope to hear from you soon.

Any links to the hardware you used, chain size, etc.? Nice swing, but I'm looking for a different design so I didn't buy you plans. For instance, I'd like the chain to NOT go through the arms like many do, including yours. That's just a personal preference, not a criticism of your design. Also, I'd like to add a swingdown console in the middle. Thanks for posting. Mark
All the hardware came from tractor supply. The actual hardware i used is no longer available from them, but there are several other options available. But if you buy the chain from them, the load capacity is printed on every chain, i 3X whatever i believe the max load may be, so if you use a different design, that may change as well. Great build! Your logo on the video was distracting.
Thanks! The logo being large keeps internet pirates from being able to just steal and crop my video and re release it as their own. I know it gets in the way sometimes, but i work hard to create each project and video and don’t want someone else who did no work to profit from my efforts.

I’m really thinking about giving this a go, but before I buy the plans, one concern is that I don’t have a planer or a jointer. I also wonder if I’m gonna have to glue the boards together like you did or if my lumber yard will have what I need. Do the plants call for the gluing of boards together? I know this is a lot of newbie questions, but I am a noob. 🥹
If you can get S4S lumber from your lumber yard (many offer this service) you don’t need a planer and jointer. If you can get 4x4s in whatever species you plan to use, there’s no need to laminate (glue the boards together) the plans just call for the final dimensions of the boards so you can use whatever method works for your situation. I promise, you are more capable than you think! Just do it !!! Happy building!
Hey, I’m going to the lumberyard tomorrow and it looks like, according to the cut sheet, they’re all 8 foot lengths? Right? Im 99 % sure lol.
Yes they’re all based on standard 8’ boards
It is very important to know which wood pieces best fit your needs. Perfect video and amazing craftsmanship even if you mentioned that you don't need technical skills but I disagree. You are great! We are planning to purchase classic tree swing perfect for our yard soon at treeswingstore.com
