Visited Smuts House many times, and especially the weekend market and Christmas market. There is one painting in the house of a dog sitting next to an empty cradle that always draws me to it. We usually stop at Irene Concentration Camp cemetery on the way back to pay respects.

Where did we go wrong? These were leaders of stature, men of renown and still we took the wrong turn. I am fascinated by history and the reasons why people took the decisions they took. I believe that he (Smuts) had a lower view of the native people due to the theory of evolution that was prominent even though he was a 'stanch' Christian (as he was referred to). I even meet Christians today who hold fast to this evil theory! True Christianity understands that all people are created in the image of God. Anyway, this is just my theory.....

My father spoke so much of him and followed him in the second warld war. My family fought for what he believed in the great war. His memory was canceled by the nationalist afrikaners and continues to be subverted by the subsequent black governments.
