    In my highschool a few students started a pagan club. It was kind if awesome in that it existed just to make a school sanctioned t-shirt. Long story short, our school district made a rule that no one was allowed to wear t-shirts, except for school shirts (clubs, sports ect...) And our principal was very opposed to this, as she felt it violated student rights, and was a waste of time for the administration to police, so she basically approved any and all clubs, many of which existed just to design a shirt, sell it, and never met again. There were TWO Christian clubs. One was fairly innocuous, the Christian athletes association, they were all there to pad their resumes. The other we're The Christian Warriors. They we're hateful, preachy, and did things like have prayer sit inside during the gay club. Just really awful people, who proudly shoved their beliefs in people's faces at school. So the people who created the pagan club decided that fair was fair, and that the non Christian presence should also be visible. They were a mixed bunch of atheists, satanists, and honest to goodness pagans, who created this fantastic design with a goat skull, pentagram, and our schools name brazenly across the top. Our principal, didn't bat an eye, approved it and people got to wear their shirts. It REALLY pissed of the Christian Warriors, they we're practically foaming. And the "pagans" just smiled and said that they had just as much right to express their beliefs. This was in the middle of Texas too, truly beautiful.

      TheCyberwoman No no. I hate you because you purposely partially did that to "hurt" christians. Im not hurt by this, do whatever the fuck you want. But don't do it with partial intent to hurt me.
      NOTE as i said partial.
      Lets be honest they partially did.

    • @TheCyberwoman

      CAT LORD Dude, hate me if you want. I was just telling an anecdote from ten years ago. I was Christian at the time, did not buy one of the t-shirts, but DID get a damn good laugh out of seeing the Christian Warriors butt hurt over t-shirts. At the time I enjoyed it because I thought the Christian Warriors hateful and poor representations of the love christianity is supposed to profess. So it was fun to see them get knocked down a peg. Now, I know they were excellent representatives of the faith.

    • @TheCyberwoman
      @TheCyberwoman Před 6 lety +15

      CAT LORD and if we're being honest, it did hurt you. Otherwise you wouldn't hate me for telling a dumb highschool story. And you're painting an entire group of children (not anymore, but when it happened) with the same brush. I can tell you that some of them did it expressly to get under the Christian Warriors skin, and others were of the hippy Earth child pagan variety who sincerely wanted to express their alternative beliefs. Not a lot of pagans out there, hence why they collaborated with the satanists and atheists.

    • @smosherwatt9403
      @smosherwatt9403 Před 6 lety +2

      TheCyberwoman hey man i just realize how dumb "hate" sounded. Was not at all the intention i tried portraying. I'm just tired and anxious. I don't hate you nor that group who did that, i simply tried correcting something and ended up incorrectly and badly portraying myself. Sorry.

    • @smosherwatt9403
      @smosherwatt9403 Před 6 lety +1

      TheCyberwoman also religion is a free and open practice. You can say whatever you want to whoever you want whenever you want!
      It didn't hurt me i was just worried to see that you or the group was trying to purposely do this with intent of "harm" i don't... really care what anyone does tbh. As long as it doesn't affect anyone else negatively then that's okay. (Of course "negatively" is a debatable term to which one can set a degree or line in which something is considered negative towards them)

      +markj6700. So you'd be OK with me going to the cemetery and performing a Satanic ritual on your dead relative's grave? Even though both you and the deceased are complete strangers to me and you knew the person buried there would not want such a service done by people he/she never even knew? You think that anybody can just dance or have sex on anybody's grave just beause they declare it to be a religious ritual? Most cemeteries wouldn't allow such an outrage even if people wanted to do it on the graves of their own relatives who had consented to it - let alone to desecrate the graves of complete strangers because of their disagreement with her son's activities.

    When I read the TST Tenants of Conduct, I had to join. I am a former Catholic, Evangelical, and Pentacostal Christian. After 50 years in Church Curtal, I took on a few different flavors. I use the TST banners as curtains. I de-converted a few years ago for several reasons. I have felt the harm religion has done to me and society. So, if one can't eliminate religion, then I want to help give voice to non-religion. I am a member and supporter of TST and FFRF.

It's an error commonly made, even among the TST membership, but I feel if we can all avoid making errors of this nature the more credibility we will have.

And I'm so fascinated by this whole thing going on in the USA when it comes to religion. I just cannot believe you have things like the Ark Encounter, the Creation Museum, "Creation Science" the Mormons etc etc. on top of the crazy shit you have inherited from Europe (Catholicism, Christianity etc). It goes so against all wisdom your founding fathers gained from the mistakes Europe had made at the time of the foundation of the USA. Keep up the good work resisting and counteracting to it!

    To the first caller's question I will add: They will call you a Satanist no matter what. Are you an atheist? Then you'll be called a Satanist. Are you gay? Then someone will call you a Satanist. Are you gothy, do you listen to metal, do you play Dungeons & Dragons, are you a feminist, did you vote for Hillary Clinton? Somewhere out there, someone is waiting to label you a Satanist. Whether you accept or reject the term makes not one bit of difference.
    From 1692 to today, the trend is consistent: Not actually being a Satanist has never protected any American from the stigma of Satanism.

    I get crap for this but I would consider myself an atheistic Germanic pagan because I feel connected to my culture, the rituals feel very meditative and I appreciate the lessons that the lore has to tell but I think it would be ridiculous to literally believe in the pantheon. I also have adopted a satanic philosophy that takes both aspects of both the church of satan and the satanic temple. I kind of hate religious elitism and the idea that religion can't be more philosophical and traditional than literal in practice.

    The pentagram on the statue's head really tickled my 'OCD-feelings', for lack of a better word. It is off center. Not only that, it is also upside down and thus not even a satanic symbol (the opposite actually). I though to myself whoever commissioned it, had no idea what they were doing. Then it dawned on me: What if it was on purpose to actually 'tickle people's OCD-feelings', now that would actually be satanic.

      Is the pentegram off center deliberately? I'm wondering if asymmetry is specifically significant to the satanic temple? Or does it appear off center because it is centered over something else and you're using the wrong reference point? I'm not trying to be condescending or mocking, I'm curious about this. Hopefully someone knows.

    One thing about his discussion of the monument that is so funny is the reaction of Christians in fear and anger at the Baphomet symbolism. Of course as a secular, humanist, non-theist it's not frightening to him, but Christians really fear Satan and Satanism. Why should they fear Satan? Isn't it their religion that dictates that God has already conquered Satan? Isn't it their religion that dictates that their God is the all-powerful one, against whose will no power can prevail? And yet it's like in the back of their mind, they fear that Satan may really prove the ultimate hero and victor in the story.

    Why am I considered offensive for wanting a Dark Lord?
    Though one of my own choosing..
    I like that title.. it appeals to my nature.. and sense of humour.
    Yessss my Dark Lord.. ??
    Yet why anyone thinks they get to choose who that is had me fucked.. just not in the good way.
    I wasn't actually mocking those who believe in differing things..
    I just like a man who isn't too good all the time because he would be more accepting of my own not too good at times.
    Being good all the time is tiresome. I never was very good at it and I guess that's why I would keep leaving church. I didn't feel I was allowed to be honest about who I am or speak in a more honest way that is true to who I am. It doesn't mean I'm evil.. I just don't like fakery.

    11:30 I understand the desire for a united atheist mindset, but atheism at it's core is an absence of something. It isn't a belief, it's an absence of belief, and as such doesn't actually include any standard traits. The things that unite people are the presence of beliefs and principles, not the absence of them. Atheists agree with each other on one thing, and one thing alone. The rest of the traits displayed by any one atheist aren't attributed to atheism, they are attributed to other facets of that person's belief system.

    • @davidfortier6976

    Wait... hold on. At 27:08, Lucien seems to imply that church speakers shouldn't have free reign to state their political opinions at the pulpit. Does anyone know what he means by that? That sounds an awful lot like an egregious infringement on freedom of speech, but I don't want to mischaracterize him.

    • @Jacob7393
      @Jacob7393 Před 7 lety +1

      That's not a policy, that's a sentiment. Could you expound? Because that sounds vaguely authoritarian. Separation of church and state does not mean pastors can't comment on politics, it means the government can't favor a religion.

    • @jasonthompson2434
      @jasonthompson2434 Před 6 lety

      It has always been a law, restricting those whom received the tax free benefit, not to politic from the pulpit. Here is a link to the code. There is a lot of case law on point that has deemed this to be constitutional and not infringe upon the Constitution, nor any Amendment, thereto.
      Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Contributions to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of the organization in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the prohibition against political campaign activity. Violating this prohibition may result in denial or revocation of tax-exempt status and the imposition of certain excise taxes.

    • @johndoe-gt4rx
      @johndoe-gt4rx Před 5 lety +1

      It's because churches are 501c3 organizations. 501c3's cannot support political activities but 501c4's can support political activities. That's why planned parenthood has 2 organizations a c3 and a c4 to campaign for pro choice laws/candidates. Not many people know that's illegal for churches to promote political candidates.

    21:01 This strikes me as nonsensical: "atheistic christians, atheistic jews, atheistic muslims..."
    These are like "married bachelors", "living dead", and "squared circles". They cannot be, by definition, if we are talking about religion. Furthermore, christians & muslims aren't a "race", and it goes without saying that any and all religions have their own unique cultures.
    How do you believe in jesus yet reject the idea of any gods? If you embrace the christian story yet acknowledge that it's a myth, then you aren't a christian.
    I don't see this method as any pathway to truth, and not very productive in the challenge we, as atheists, face.

    I'm not an atheist, nor a thinking atheist, and I'm not a Satanist, my thinking is related, I'm a Gnostic Luciferian, I believe in several gods including rah and Horus even though I don't worship all the gods in my cult. In case you can't tell it's not my own invention, and it's not about inventing, it's about ancient rituals before Christianity and after Satanism. The "point" of this is rejection of external rules for its own sake, because it's on one group's side and not the other, the programmed evil of tradition, it's a lot like Satanism with similar anti-rules and anti-dogma, dogma is defined as accepted rules as of ego, education, law, and morality, it's the most simple cult in the world, all you need to do is commit to devilry and be an amoral bastard, it's neither about being good or evil, it's got a point and it's hard to understand what the "point" is, even with Satanism.
