  • Come on a walking tour of the Danish Town of Solvang, California. Solvang is a small town with a population of about 6,100 people. Solvang is located in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County about 45 minute drive north of Santa Barbara. The town was founded in 1911 by a group of Danes from the midwest. In the 1940s, they had a concept for the town as a Danish Village and started building using Danish-Style architecture. Today, Solvang is a popular year-round destination for people looking to experience a little bit on Denmark in California.

I visited Solvang a few years back, and to my surprise, very few people actually spoke danish. I assumed it was a town full of danish people. I'm bilingual and I'd just start speaking danish to store owners. They looked at me as if I was possessed, and we'd have a good laugh about it. It was a great experience to see the american take on a Danish town, and I still joke about being me being Danish, eating a Danish, in a Danish town in the US :D
Thank you for a great video walk of the town, this city is just so vibrant and charming!

No problem. Yeah, it is a charming little town. It is nice to experience a little bit of Denmark in California. Haha same thing happened to my friend the first time I went there years ago. The bakery employees were so confused because he was speaking Danish to them.

I live in Carpentaria, Ca and I always go there for the beauty and restful ambience, I swear I breathe better as well. The air quality is nice. As always most importantly respect the land as it belongs to my native Chumash tribe.

Looks more like an amusement park than any place in Denmark.

This place would pop more if the FASHION WAS FROM THE early 19th century

Many merchants and shopkeepers do dressed up in Danish clothing, but all the people visiting are tourists.

It’s so cute, but those traditional clothes make me laugh 💀 as a danish person, I don’t associate that with us at all lol
