Our top story this week looks at how Farmers for Forests has been piloting the payment for ecosystem services in Maharashtra with two objectives: to protect existing forests and grow new forests on degraded land.

    This channel has such brilliant content yet so few viewers and subscribers. I think just adding subtitles in english as well as regional languages will help a lot of Indian viewers . It makes me sad that the Indian youth is missing content like this.

    • @maazkalim
      @maazkalim Před 3 lety

      A) They deserve to miss content like this.
      B) And yes, tolerate it or not or try to justify by rubbishing me as "cynic" or "[whatchamacallit ]fundie": India's shitting herself managing all of the diversity and plurality. _Ergo:_ Hindutva nationalism of Brahminical hegemony is chosen as the endgame, based on the preference of the single-largest demo in national-populace.
      C) *If you don't prefer the overambitious day-&-date aka latest-episodes localised: Then THEY'VE FINALLY started airing this series in Hind[ustān]ī( HinGlish, to be precise) both linear-wise and on the BELATEDLY-launched self-owned streaming venture **_à la_** Murica, on a struggling **_Aatmanirbhar℠_** infotainment-venture YEARS before it was **_coined_** by a certain Dashāvatāra, in spite of very Indian angel-investment from VCs like **_Badā Ambānī,_** Mahindra® Partners and 'course, Mr Ratan Tātā.* But truth be told, I'm not sure that you shall either promote them as they're neither interested in promoting the _Aatmanirbhar™_ rhetoric like our literally hundreds and hundreds of news media, commissioning yet-another unlicensed adaptation of ‘Bal Narendra: Childhood Stories of Narendra Modi®’ like all of other oh-so-veritably _self-reliant_ streaming offerings like Bei'jing-administered DISNEY+® hotstar® amongst dozen others, to even going far beyond PRH®-published ‘Exam Warriors®’ and even adapting the oh-so-reliable accounts of ' strike', ' strike' by oh-so-maverick journos from the said news media. Worst, they don't even wanna adapt the singularly-focused TP by mainstream Indian historians over Mongo.. err.. "Mughal" atrocities, so much for the "LW-Maoist"/"Urban Naxal™" controlled academia and intelligentsia, those suppressed-"hard facts" subscribed by the "HIndians".
      To be sure.. That's not to say that they're squeaky "echo-chamber", either. Because frankly, in the _Ease of Doing Business_ economy like India - where every single media-operation is still obligated to gain the authorisation by Interior Ministry( MHA) in a supposed post-Licence Rāj economy of India: There are still enough _regulations_ ensuring that any venture doesn't go towards its somehow-"desired", perennially-decried "foreign-funded _Liberandu_ anti-national establishment propaganda echo-chamber".( Even though since about 7 years of the incumbent regime, somehow being antithetical to the "dogma" of despised-"establishment" - the incumbent-regime keeps counting their virtually every single schemes as "success-stories".) Although, those very same _regulations_ need not apply for the info suitable to the incumbent-regime, since it was allegedly "suppressed since the last 72+ years" and such.

    While I think financial grants from research and other sources is needed for experimental and educational purposes, it bothers me a great deal to see so many projects like this one be abandoned when the money dries up. These little "forests" are supposed to be self-sustaining once established, but they still need some kind of maintenance for plants that encroach and take over, plus control of wildlife that can damage bark and lower branches. I see all these people in the pictures digging holes and planting. Why did they need a grant to do this? They spoke of native trees and fruit trees that grow easily from seed. He spoke of lack of rain, and trees help hold in the moisture, plus encourage rain and ground water. Trees hold the topsoil and prevent erosion. Along with other methods such as swales, berms and catchments, land can be restored. This can be taught, and it doesn't take five years. Education and the tools (auger) to do the job are cheaper than paying someone for five years, and they have more control over what they plant. Mango, papaya, guava, loquat, avocado, mulberry and moringa are just a very few of the trees grown easily from seed in that area. People have a lot of cumulative power to convert land into food forests if they would just get out and do it without waiting for someone to give them money. But it does take education and a vision about what is possible.

      @@govindayan that’s a lie, Modi intends to let his friends clean up financially by undercutting the farmers by paying them next to nothing then selling at a higher price hence making them rich. This happens when a market is deregulated, the farmers always lose. Seen it happen to the milk and wool industries here in Australia, where a litre of water costs more than a litre of milk! Dairy farmers are losing so much money and many have exited the industry!

    • @govindayan
      @govindayan Před 3 lety

      ,@@narellemacpherson6451 Maybe you are right, but Modi government trying to make a double income of farmers by 2022. That is not an easy task when you have small farmers and 70 per cent of farmers have less than 1-acre (around 0.4 hectares) land. Already our farmers have less income in the 🌎. There is APMC market which is control by the state government, but they are not effective as small farmers, don't go there, to sell products as they have right to Minimum Price (MSP). There is always fraud and farmers new it. So farmers sell rice, wheat to another seller who is not a farmer and he sells it to APMC as he has connection. Central Government buys these products for around 25-30 Rs. per kg and distribute it to lower-income people for 2-3 Rs. KG. These many people sell it who is needed or use to feed animals.

    • @govindayan
      @govindayan Před 3 lety

      1) as per APMC law, farmers must sell products in near APMC. If we have an open market then will sell it around the country where he gets a better price.
      2) If farmers come together and form their group and do farming as a business and sell it anywhere.
      3) Contract farming in the launched in many states, so farmers will get some right income. As we buy vegetables in India for around 40-60 Rs kg. But farmers, get only 4-5 Rs per Kg. Other money goes to the middleman or sellers. You will see farmers destroy the farm as he didn't get the right price.
      4) Suicide is another problem. No one talking about this issue. Farmers take a loan and spent 4-5 lakh rupees to farm. But when he didn't get as expected income or loss he commits suicide.
      5) Government buy rice and wheat and just sell to people which is low quality. You can see videos in which conditions of Indian godown you will see. As companies just don't sell products as a government but they do many products. So farmers will get more income. 15 years back a litre of milk was 10 Rs, but now around 40 (cow), 60 (Buffalo) is the price. My family sell coconut but in the same period prices not changed as milk, so our income becomes less.

      @@govindayan I’m sorry to hear the dreadful problems Indian farmers are having, however deregulating the cropping industries will made problems very much worse. Here in Australia the Dairy Industry has been deregulated and the smaller farms have failed. Woolworths a major Supermarket is abusing the system by paying $1/litre for milk! Bottled water costs more $3/Litre! The Dairy farmers who have some capital have formed cooperatives to sell their milk for $1.80/Litre, still not enough, but break even. It is disgusting how farmers are being treated here in Australia. The public will be screaming once no fresh milk for breakfast! It is so much worse for farmers in India, and you have my sincere condolences.I wish you and your family all the best as I do farmers all around the world, you are the unsung heroes.
