the boxes they individually came in were beautiful as well. usually they just send them from the manufacturer, wrapped in plastic and shipped in the standard cardboard box. as I write this, I realized they were gift boxes. I'll have to remember that.

Looks like a Tartan Plaid lining on the second shirt. Does that run all the way down, or is it just in the neck and shoulder area? If it's sewn all the way through that would be impressive.
2 beautiful shirts, thanks for sharing!

Sorry for my late answer! Both Rugby Shirts are from the Ralph Lauren Website Germany / Europe.

@@ivansfashiontv8516 Lucky! They haven't sold anything as ornate in the USA since they quit selling the "RL Rugby" brand 10 years ago. Enjoy them, cheers.

I ordered the first rugby shirt on the german / europe ralph lauren website. Maybe it came out only for the european market. I don´t know, sorry!

If you're in the USA, you won't. The rugby shirts they sell here are most all very conservative. Not a lot of patches, back numbers, even the reinforced yoke on the shirt he's wearing (The diamond stitching up around the shoulders) is a rarity to find here. Right now the RL website has 40 Rugby Shirts, and ONE has that feature. And it's a plain blue and green horiz stripe otherwise.
Just different tastes for different demographics. We do get a cool design here and there, plus all the vintage pieces out there, if you're in the States you'll likely find plenty of stuff to buy and still more to covet.
      Cheers! 🍺

@@BWM135 And that's exactly why I don't wear more rugby shirts. It's too difficult to find the good ones here in the US. I love all three rugbies in the video, but the odds of finding them in the US are very slim.

    • @BWM135

@@LastBref Hold out hope. We aren't getting rugbies that are quite this cool (I would have been hunting for someone in the UK to take my money to buy either of these and ship one to me here), but RL is releasing some more interesting rugbies here.
RL Rugby tribute shirts with the "Happy Skull & Bones" and the under collar detail.
Direct reproductions of old RLR designs (Only one so far, more to come).
With the recession, what were EU-only pieces are being released here in secondary channels (Department Stores, notably Macy's, which has the longest relationship with RL, got an EU-only shirt with 2 patches and a stitched yoke.
Plus there are SO MANY sweet Polo Rugby shirts in the used market, and if you have the ability to spend a little money in a recession eBay and Poshmark are littered with nice looking shirts at buyer's market prices. Even RL Rugby shirts can be found reasonably, 2 of the 5 in my collection were bought off straight auctions for roughly $60 and $70 respectively. Yes, there are sellers convinced that anything RLR is worth far more than it cost new, but unless it's a really special piece, anyone asking $150+ is likely going to watch their item sit indefinitely.
I just got in a shirt today. Polo, maybe 5-7 years old. 2X Custom Fit (Desirable size). Huge crest emblem on the left, and a smaller Griffon emblem on the right. Diamond pattern yoke detailing and "Quilting" in the shoulders. Finished even vent at the Hem, which is also double stitched on the Custom Fit shirts since they're made to be worn untucked. And the "Pads" at the elbows. Basically as much detailing as you'll find in a recent PRL rugby. Original ask was $50, I offered $35. Seller accepted. The original ask on that shirt new was likely $150 give or take, and the closest 2023 equivalents are right at $200. If you can live with pre-loved, its good for your wallet AND the planet. I mean, this shirt looks like it was worn 3-5 times. Even the collar was sharp and perfectly formed, as white as the one brand new and unworn PRL rugby shirt in my closet, and seemed like it had been starched.
And for those who want a thicker, more functional shirt, Rowing Blazers does a nice one if you can swing the initial cost. Rugby shirts didn't begin and don't end with Ralph Lauren, though much of the appeal there is that between his current offerings and a HUGE stock of nice, well cared for vintage rugbies you can get yourself a few nice examples without breaking the bank...
Hope that helps, these 2 shirts in the video are uniquely cool, and absolutely worth showing off. They were also the equivalent of $500 USD give or take. Would I have paid that for them had they been available to me? Likely, if I had it to spend at the time. Then again, if I can find rugby shirts that are 3/4 as cool for 1/4 of the price? I'm happy to live with that and build what's become a small collection. Eventually there will be a new or vintage piece that I have to have, and hopefully I'll be in a position to spend the money on it. Start in the used market, learn what colors and details (Emblems, rear numbers, yoke stitching, under collar details, etc.) you like and don't, don't overpay while you're learning like I did once or twice (Not badly thankfully), and always ask the seller if they're the original buyer. If so, that's a chance to learn and date the shirt, just like you know that RLR was around from 2004-2013, but the skull detailing that was the "RL Rugby" logo still pops up on Polo rugbies (Like these 2) and other items (I have a knit belt that has the same "Happy Skull" in the pattern).
Have fun, nothing beats opening a box with a cool rugby shirt in it, regardless of how you define cool and if it's new or just new to you. Good luck! 🍺
