Hey JerseyKnife Guy, enjoyed your video. I spent many years up in Sussex County and enjoy listening to your accent. Reminds me of family. I have my Savage boxed back up and ready to return to Amazon. I agree it is a nice knife and feels like it would be very nimble and capable for detailed work but there were too many things I didn't care for about it. I couldn't get the blade even halfway into that nice sheath. That seems to be an issue that some have and some don't with this wider blade. Maybe I could have worked at it more. The handle is just way too thin for me to be comfortable with and I don't have all that large of a hand. I could have easily added liners but then I didn't care for all the exposed metal at the end of the handle either. For me, the wood would have to extend further back which means crafting new handles. Now that's a shame since that bog oak makes such a great handle. I think for someone with small hands, this would be a great inexpensive knife to buy and use. Another thing is that at 76 I really don't have that much need for another knife anymore. Now if I was still roaming in those white birch and pines all around the valley they built that ski resort in above Vernon, NJ before they built it, I probably would have kept it.

I agree with you Pete! I've been eying the Savage up for awhile now. It's a good looking knife. I have 3 other BPS knives and I'm quite impressed by the quality to price value they offer. The steel isn't the most edge retentive steel on the market by any means, but it holds up reasonably well considering that, so they must be doing a good job at heat treating it to get it's max performance. It also strops back very well if you don't let it get to dull, and it sharpens easy if you do let it go to far to be tuned up with a strop alone. I think they make an outstanding camp/bushcraft knife at an extremely good price for any budget, but especially so if money is tight for someone!

BPS looks like a great knife for the money. The Full Flat is nice and is generally more useful than a scandi. It will be interesting to see how well the edge holds up. With those temps through the sheath in the car for a while and it will really soak up the conditioner.
Great knives for the $$. Should be 1066 Carbon Steel. I'm gonna beat mine till it cries!! SOG did turn us all on to these, I sent him an e-mail asking him to specifically show those on the Live!! The Sheaths are definitely worth the price of the blades.. Stay cool by the pool!!!

I think you made a good choice with the full flat. With that grind, this one looks like it would double as a really nice hunting piece for large game. Awesome knife, my friend!

I love mine man...My Buddy cut down some AAA tigertail maple and I made some scales for mine its soo nice. Im not 100% sure but they must be made in same place as beavercraft carving tools I used mine to make a few fires in the winter it stropped up super nice and hasnt needed a sharpen yet.

I think putting a new set of scales on is a great idea. It's a shame that those bog oak scales are so thin. Way too thin for my average large hand. I didn't care for the exposed metal at the rear. I believe I'd cover most of that with new wood. I couldn't get mine into the sheath either. Very stiff. Sharp? Somewhat, but the one I received needed more work. I agree, a nice knife for the price and I had high hopes but decided to return mine to Amazon.
