Kilt-Man discusses the news that cult filmmaker Edgar Wright is developing a faithful adaptation of Stephen King's The Running Man, which he wrote under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman.
With Harold Faltermeyer's glorious synth score to the 1987 version, starring Arnie, providing musical might, Kilty analyses the original bleak and violent story, its colourful and goofy 80s take ... and the potential hurdles a new and more faithful film faces.

I really enjoyed the '87 movie and I absolutely love the score! I'd be interested to see an Edgar Wright version. Even just on a visual level, i'd be interested to see his take.
The 1987 movie running man
Very enjoyable film
Will be interesting to see what they do with this remake
Cheers Kilt-man

This has definitely piqued my interest.
I'd pass you the bottle, but I've only got skerricks left, myself 😅
The book is very similar to the UK TV show Hunted on channel four except for the murdering I hope he can pull it off because the book is really good
I've got to wonder 🤔 if it wouldn't make a better mini series than a movie
A few of the bachman story's could make good movies
They go with the book ending, it'll be highly controversial.
Definitely. But I think the problem is going to be more that so many people will know that ending. Whether they've read the story or not, they will have heard of the shocking conclusion before the film is released. So, with this in mind, Wright, Bacall and certainly Paramount will be looking for something different.
We'll see, though.
Cheers 🥃🥃 ✈️👍
@@Kilt-ManChris I know people in real life that actually don't know the ending. Some didn't even know it was a book. So there is hope that an accurate adaptation could work. Though regardless it would need some modern tech infused (such as social media) for it to fully work.
Not sure how the Bachman novel would work as a movie these days. The basic premise has been done to death. Sadistic game show in a dystopian society etc etc. The fact that it's Edgar Wright suggests they may approach it comedically, which does have some promise. The Arnie movie is hilarious, but then Wright is saying his version will be "faithful." No clue how he can do that and make it watchable.
Yeah, that's what I was grappling with throughout the video.
I can't see him taking it down a comedic, or blackly comic road though. That wouldn't be faithful in the least and Arnie's take was, as you said, hilarious. So the goofy, camp version has been done.
Time to get raw, bleak and downbeat 👍💪🥃
@@Kilt-ManChris Yeah, but bleak has also been done. The Hunger Games, Squid Game, etc. Honestly they'd have better luck adapting The Long Walk. That at least would lend itself to a minimalistic approach that would distinguish it from Hunger Games et al.
I always wanted to see a faithful version, but like Rage, events that have transpired in the real world have made it impossible to do the ending from the book.
@@oscardiggs246 I first read it only a few months after those "events." I may have actually said "yikes" out loud. lol
