I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

Nice content for a good discussion. Galing lng kmi sa Philippines this January with my wife and 3 kids for a month and we all enjoyed it. Pero that is vacation mode. There are lots of things to consider. We live here in the Bay Area (Fremont) for 30 years and our mortgage is done, so retirement planning is our main agenda . Our children have finish their college education with one of them just passed her California Bar exam. Our main concern is that none of our children wants to live in the Philippines. One is married and just starting her family. I know they are independent na (she just purchased a house in Dublin, CA) pero as a Pilipino culture its still our obligation to guide them building their own family. We raised them in this country so we cannot abandon them for our convenience. Most Sunday we have breakfast together with their partners and what more if they start to have children. My wife ( who is also an RN) is very close to our kids and she can't imagine being away from them, since we all live in the Bay Area also . Anyway this are just our opinion . God bless.

Cost of healthcare is the biggest constraint that made me reconsider in retiring for good in the Phil. Aside from the fact that my wife is so attached with our kids & the future apo's. Health insurance is costly & have limits & if one would want good health facilities then one should live in the heart of urban jungle, otherwise, settle for mediocre health service in rural areas. Still prefer to just regularly visit the country.

Spot on. Most of my aunts were teachers and retired as principals. They all took a lump sum worth millions. But in the end, their hard work took a toll on their health. My father was the eldest of 12. He made sure his siblings and his 6 children got an education and have degrees. Retired with 0 bank account and no properties. Because of the health programs in the Philippines, we decided to have our parents live with us in the US. Besides the care we are providing, my father wants to live in the Philippines. He died while his children were all in the US. My brother in laws ill father came to visit from the Philippines and to his doctor. He had enough time to see his children and grandchildren before passing. I keep on telling the younger generations, that our elders did the sacrifices so we can have a chance for a better life in a foreign land. Life in US is not easy but the chances of progress is way better than in the Philippines. In the Philippines, we don't stress that much because we are living poorly. Blackouts every week, no AC and no plumbing? We can still laugh and enjoy living. It's a 100 degrees where I live and I'm privilege to have AC and ice cream.

Libre ang medical insurance sa states? Which state in the USA has free healthcare? I would like to know - coz I have never heard of it. If you retire early before 65 - you have buy your own coverage until Medicare kicks in. Most people will work to have coverage in reduced capacity just to cover the insurance. And if you are sickly - you are SOL if you drop your coverage. If you pay everything off when you retire early say -62...you still have to fork out money for your coverage. It is no joke in expense - maybe $750 each per month.

I enjoyed all their life stories. I think my husband and I might return to the Philippines often in the future, maybe just visiting once a year. 👍💕🙏🏼
