We had one, and It was fantastic apart from the Sat nav broke and no one at Renault could fix it so they got an expert over from France just to fix it, it was at the dealer for a month
Chris Viper yea doesn’t sound like the best service, but cool car anyway, the avantime was cool and interesting, but it wasn’t interesting enough for people to buy it
You should add to the end the news clip when Renault cancelled the Avantime and Jezza's reaction: Hammond: How many you think they sold? Jezza: Millions! Hammond: Be sensible.. Jezza: hundreds of thousands? Hammond: 167... it did so bad actually they stoped selling it in britain Jezza: gone???!! Hammond: yeah Jezza: NOOOOOO!!! I LOVED THAT CAR!
The problem is, it was too ahead of its time. What Renault should have done was export them to the U.S. They would have sold a million here. Too bad this approval and recommendation by Top Gear didn't translate into sales. If I had lived in Europe or the UK at the time, (and been able to afford it), I would have definitely bought one. Thanks.
A good reason why this didnt sell so well was the typical renault interior trim... if it had the wheel, shifter and console from the concept it would have probably sold much better
You may say about a penguin that it is a stupid animal. But in it’s natural environment it has all the tools to be a boss. You cannot say compare this to a ferrari, but in it’s natural environment it surely is a boss.
It's not a Renault. Don't mind the badge. It's a Matra but it was sold as a Renault unfortunatelly which put a lot of people off it... The first 3 generations of Espace were also Matras :) .
So many years later - how correct he was!
I am 100% with Jeremy on this one. Absolutely ice cold cool. I want one!

@Chris Viper I hope that was covered by the warranty I can only begin to imagine the cost of all that just for a sat nav :o

I like the doors

Where can i find that clip?
I saw one when they had just come out in Britain, no idea they were quite that rare. To be fair I don't think I ever saw another
It's a beautiful car, I wish we got Renault cars in the states still.
Never disagree with Jeremy... spot on! Coolest car ever..
oh i disagree with him allot, especialy on global warming and Hybrid cars.
But im 100% on with the Avantime, it was always such a cool looking car.
the avantime is my favorite car im gonna try and import one to australia soon
Good luck. There are very few.
they are very cool
The golden years of Top Gear
Id say it was before the golden years, james may still wasnt on
Who's here to reconfirm the fact that they liked this car but forgot to mention it in the GT special?
If you read the trivia shown while they were talking about the mondeo, it says the boys forgot about the avantime because they’re old men 😂
@@baselhs it could also be a reference to how they are unable to make an avantime go as fast as an evo 10 back in top gear s12e3

The cooliest car of the world!

This was back when Jason Dawe was the third presenter of Top Gear
Just passing through eight years later to say yep, you called it!
You know what, I agree!
i can see james lost a lot of weight for season 2
That's quite a few years ago, that's me with the blonde hair with the RS Owners Club who were on the show.
Besides Jason they'd never thought that they be modifying this car years later to take on a Mitsubishi Evo
I love this car
It's the coolest car ever.
It's like Renault looked at the Fiat Multipla and thought "we can do one better"
A car far ahead of it’s time. I think it’s the future youngtimer.
Omg, they like this car too:)
Jeremy loving this car is so adorable 😂. Renault really know how to make somebody fall in love with cars
It should have gone in the fridge with the DB9 had it existed at the time.
He couldn’t be more right about the Avantime at the top end of the cool wall.
He is right

idk what yall smoking but i want it
Why's it so cool though?
Lucky I didn't follow claksons advice.
American shlash, qwuatsch...
No.
French Fiat multipla 😭
C'mon. Multipla is ugly. This one is brillant, original, well built. Too expensive, too much original maybe.
You forget the 3.0 v6 with manual transsmision, bonkers too
Comparing Avantime to a multipla is just wrong... People all have a different opinion about this car, but on the multipla they all agree!
Swap that badge over from a Renault, and I might by it.

Snob
