I grew up with OG Crash Bandicoot. I’m about your age, born 2002. My parents had the PS1 as well but it never got sold. My mom loved Crash, and one of my earliest memories of all time is picking up the controller at like 4 years old, not knowing what I was doing, and using up most of her lives on The Lab. When I was older I remember finishing Crash 2 somewhere along the line. Then went I through 1 and Warped. And one day with birthday money I bought Titans. Loved it. Found Nitro Kart at a friends house. Was gifted Twinsanity I think. Bought Wrath of Cortex at miscellaneous side section under a firework tent. I don’t even remember where I got Tag Team racing but I played it too at some point in the middle of all those.

As you say at the end.
I played the PS1 games, all of them (3 and CTR the most, probably 1 the least), when I was a kid, but we never bought another console, so I never played the later games. Then the NST came out I've been playing again since.
My introduction to the series though was via a TV show called Maxihra (Maxigame) in which people could call in and play levels from Crash 2 and 3 for prizes. The gameplay was controlled with the phone's buttons. (That was also where I learned as a little kid which was left and right since I already knew numbers.)

The only games I never owned as a kid/teen were the original CTR and Crash 1. I ended up getting all of the others including Bash.
But instead of Xbox it was on the PS2. For some reason though I picked Mind Over Mutant for the PSP but I barely touched it and it's the only Crash game I have not finished yet. My favorite was actually Twinsanity even more so than the trilogy. The first time I experienced Crash 1 and CTR was already on an emulator.
I didn't find out about the series, my dad just ended up buying Crash 2 and 3 for our PS1 a bit after getting the console and those games were actually what got me into gaming along with Toy Story 2 because the rest of my library was awful.

Similar experience with the PS1 growing up, I have very vague memories of playing a decent few games on it, but I was so young, I could barely beat the first couple of levels on any of them. I think I spent a small amount of time in Tag Team, and truthfully CTR and CNK were the only of those games I even liked at all, but I *loved* them. Crash honestly wasn't even a platforming franchise in my mind until I dove into the old games maybe a decade-ish ago, and that laid the groundwork for the Bandicoot-obsessed creature I am today. And tbh a real WumpaLewis fan would already know everything in this video smh.

I grew up with Crash Bandicoot XS (the EU version) for the GBA. It was the first Crash game I ever played. Unfortunately, I've lost the cartridge and haven't found it since. I do *occasionally* play the Japanese version (Crash Bandicoot Advance) on my laptop via emulation, and it has quite a few differences to the international (US/EU) versions:
-The "Credits" option on the title screen/main menu isn't present in the JP version.
-The TNT crates don't have the word "TNT" written on them, but have a bomb icon instead, just like in the JP versions of other Crash games.
-The copyright info that appears upon booting up the game no longer shows Vicarious Visions, but instead shows Konami. The Konami logo also appears on the very next screen.
-The JP version has 6 options on the Data Options screen instead of 5. The fifth one is exclusive to the JP version, and upon selecting it, you're taken to a prompt with the options "Yes" and "No". Selecting "Yes" returns you to the main menu.
-When Crash spins in mid-air, he loses some of his falling momentum when the spin ends.
-When he jumps during a grounded spin, he starts descending instantly when the spin ends, and with max falling momentum from the very moment the descent starts.
-The OoB (Out of Bounds) in Drip, Drip, Drip (Level 19) isn't possible in this version, because the game doesn't let you go above the camera like the US/EU versions do. This loses quite a lot of time, which is especially noticeable in Time Trial.
-Speaking of Time Trial, when you're in the Warp Room, both the relic time and your best time in a level show 6 digits in the international versions (e.g. 01:42:20), but only 4 digits are shown in the Japanese version (1:42.2). The last digit for the milliseconds (the 6th digit on the timer) always shows 0, which is why it was removed in the Warp Room, and the 1st is only shown when you get 10 minutes or more in a Time Trial and that happens to be your best time (which pretty much never happens). Interestingly, though, the 1st & 6th digits are still present when inside a level.
Apologies for this comment being unnecessarily long, I'll end it here.

When I was 8, I got a PlayStation, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon for Christmas. My little sis would watch me play those games for hours after school (I played more Spyro than Crash because the OG Crash was "The Dark Souls of Platforming" compared to Spyro, no joke. And the Crash 4 N.Sanely Perfect Relics are the same beast. I didn't 100% Spyro 1 at the time because of one area in Haunted Tower, very upsetting, but beat the main game). I used cheats to see the other levels in Crash 1, because I'm sure it was Slippery Climb I couldn't get past at the time. Couple years later, got Crash 2 (beat main game) and Spyro 2 (beat 100%), went back to Spyro 1 and 100%ed it (after getting more Supercharge experience), and back to Crash 1 and got Clear Gem on Slippery Climb (without dying, hell yeah). About a year later, got Crash 3 and Spyro 3 for Christmas (beat both 100%). Then about another year later, I got CTR (PS1) and Spyro: Season of Ice (GBA) for Xmas. My sis and I had fun with CTR in VS. mode. Sad thing is, I beat ALL of Oxide's Time Trials but was hoping to unlock his character as a reward. NOPE. Very disappointed. 😞 Over the years, I tried to collect (and play) every Crash and Spyro game I could find (except for Skylanders, I refuse). The same goes for Tomb Raider, trying to collect them all (this is starting to sound like Pokemon, another thing I and my sis were into). I'd say the only Crash games I don't have are Nitro Kart for PS2 (I have the GBA version 😐), Team Rumble, and Skylanders (for both Crash and Spyro, but again, I refuse).
Funny short story about Crash 1: As a kid, I got so frustrated with Slippery Climb (among other levels), I traded Crash 1 for Frogger (PS1) with a friend. This exchange was like if you traded a chicken for an egg. Crash 1 is like the chicken: you learned what the chicken likes and what it hates, so you get along as best as you can with an occasional peck to the face (you eventually learn the levels at a decent pace, with difficulty spikes sometimes). But Frogger is like the egg: you have no idea what lurks inside. And nothing is more fearful than the unknown. 😱 But with hopes and prayers, the egg could turn out as well as the chicken, right?? Nah. This little f*** would peck your eyes out as soon as it hatched (you eventually learn the levels, but only after you've died a million times, they're WAY more fast-paced, and you'd need Turbo Fingers for general movement). Man, I wished I hadn't made that trade. Frogger's 10x tougher than Crash 1. I had, and still have, a better chance at beating the OG Stormy Ascent than beating Frogger. Luckily, the Gamer Gods heard my cries of agony, and bestowed the gift of Crash 1 in still-sealed packaging a few years later on a Wal-Mart shelf. That was around Xmas time, I think. And now, I'll stop typing a novel for my comment. 😅

I had a similar experience to you growing up with Crash. I played a tiny bit of Warped at a friend's house, and I remember even borrowing their playstation for a few days to try to get through the game (didnt even make it to dingodile though). Some time later I got a PS2 and one of the first games I got for it was - Crash Nitro Kart, actually. somehow I got that one first, and I saw Wrath of Cortex in a game store later and wondered if it was a platformer similar to Warped lol.
But yea, I basically grew up with Nitro Kart and Wrath of Cortex. I didn't really get to play any PS2/Xbox Crash game beyond that unfortunately, but when I got a PS3 I did try the original trilogy through the official downloads on the PSN store thing. And I did the same thing for CTR. I definitely enjoyed my time with those games, but I definitely jumped on both of those games' remakes asap and I haven't go back to the original four games since.

Wrath of cortex introduced to me to trilogy platforming before i realize there is crash trilogy and team racing. When i got crash of titans when i brought this game to play with a friend everytime he dies he asks me if he wants to keep playing and i said yes i knew this game ruin the franchise and years later they returned with remasters and crash 4 before quarantine

Despite how every PS2 era Crash game turned out, I think all of us have to admit that each game at least has a passionate flair to it... a different atmosphere that all of us can rightfully explore and get into, whether we were into it or not. Each of them have a setting for everyone, whether traditional gameplay or straight up combat. It was and still is an awesome era to have lived through just to see such (slightly to amazingly) unfinished games turn out so cool and filled with actual love and passion for the series in order to make each iteration grow on its own. Being a Crash fan doesn't need to necessarily start with the original games. You could play Boom Bang and I'm pretty sure you could develop some kind of love for the other games once you start visiting them, generally speaking. People getting offended because of the way you play or whatever knowledge you possess despite being a Crash channel need to also know that they were in those same shoes at one point like all of us. As a middle schooler, I had no idea of Eggipus Rex's existence, yet I discovered it through online forums and early youtube videos and managed to finish the game on emulator.

-93 boomer here. We didn't have a ps1 at home, but most of my friends had. I was 6 or 7 years old when the original CTR was released. I used to go at my friends house before and after school to play it. CTR stayed as one of our favorite games during our elementary school years and we played it so (maybe too) much that all "know-how" of the game has been permanently imprinted in my nervous system.

  • @idontknowhowtonamemyself7414

Man I had the original Trilogy aswell as WoC, MoM and CTTR. I loved them all to bits and even now have a big nostalogia towards them. Even.have some memories like not.knowing on how to change Warprooms in Crash 2 or beign afraid of those lions in Tinys fight in Crash 3. Always played with my brother and took turns when we died. Crash 2 was also my first game I ever completed on myself (Of course with a guide cuz of those secret exists and coloured gens). I was really bad at the time. The final level i had to do was totally bear and were really close to a game over. Even now I remembwr how excited I was after collecting the final gem and returing back to the warproom with a big smile on my face.

I was born in 94 and owned a PS1, so I grew up with the original trilogy. I remember really liking Crash 2 as a kid, but once I replayed it in the N. Sane trilogy I actually liked it the least out of the three. Weird how memories get warped. I also played Wrath of Cortex and saw a friend play Twinsanity in the PS2 era. Never really cared for the racing games even though we owned CTR on the PS1 as well. I also have some memories of playing Crash Bash at a friends house.
I was already quite old when I played Crash of the Titans. It was much after its original release, maybe in 2010 or something. I thought the game was fine, but I really wanted to play a classic crash game. That dream was eventually granted by the N. Sane trilogy and the released of Crash 4.

I never owned a PS2 until I was about 16 in 2011 and that was when I got to play Twinsanity for the first time (I always remember being sad about not being able to play it as a kid). MOM was okay. But getting around to the N. Sane Trilogy, with not having played the first game in the series and not completing Crash 2 as a kid, I definitely feel the whole "not being experienced enough with the game to know everything about them" thing. I became a fan in 2018 when Crash Bandicoot N sane Trilogy came out for the Xbox one, since my parents were big fans of the original games when they are around my age of 20 lol, so when they got the game they started playing it and I wasn’t into gaming until my cousins came round to our house and my dad was struggling with the level Native Fortress so my cousins and my dad took turns and i tried it and just instantly loved it and we were struggling for ages kept getting game overs and then I managed to beat it on my attempt and we were hyped and I eventually played the rest of the trilogy and loved it. Same story with CTR since they owned the original CTR and were hyped to get the remaster and I instantly loved it and still play it with my dad to this game probably one of my favourite games love Nitro Fuelled. Eventually managed to start loving crash more and I remembering getting crash 4 in 2020 I was hyped and then 2021 I got a ps2 for cheap and overtime got most of the crash games you mentioned and played them.

For me, how I got into the Crash Bandicoot series? When I was little, I watching cartoons on TV and it when into commercials, there was an ad about Crash Bandicoot on PS1. When I went to my cousin’s house, he had a PS1 and Crash Bandicoot. Eventually, I got a PS1 with Crash Bandicoot and other games like Ridge Racer. I grew up playing the original games and the original CTR and Crash Bash. Later on, I got the Crash games for GBA. The first Crash Bandicoot GBA was Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto’s Rage which featured Spyro The Dragon. I’ve never the other Crash games until later one in my life. I’ve never owned a PS2, GameCube, or the Xbox OG before. One of my friends I knew has Crash Bandicoot The Wrath of Cortex and Crash Nitro Kart. I only played a little bit of it. Those two Crash games I’ve mentioned, I brought them at a retro store that I’ve been to. Nowadays, I really wanted to play the other versions of the previous Crash Bandicoot games. I’ve have the PSP version of Crash Tag Team Racing. I’ve never owned the console version. For what I’ve heard, if you connect that PSP version of Crash Tag Team Racing with the PS2 version, you unlock exclusive content. I’m glad that your a Crash fan and you played different Crash Bandicoot games.

I just realised I have much more experience at Crash games than I thought, I played the crap out of the original trilogy, Crash Bash and CTR when I was a kid. When I got a PS2 I was on my teenage years and played a lot of Crash Twinsanity, Tag Team Rancing and Titans. Just like you, I did not like Mind Over Mutant, there was something about it that made me drop it, and I completely missed out on Wrath of Cortex and Nitro Kart. In the current era I played alot of N. Sane Trilogy and Crash 4, didn't get Nitro Fueled because frankly I'm not a fan of racing games and it didn't come out on PC, which is a crime for the online multiplayer scene.

As an OG fan, I've seen a lot of discourse on the later Crash games throughout the years, and I can in a way understand the sentiment put forth here by some of these comments. Stupid as they may be.
You see, the thing with the games that came out after the trilogy are, for lack of better terms, very polarizing. Initially Naughty Dog was pretty much done after Crash 3. And then Crash Bash came out, and you could feel it even more there. After that, the games just got weirder and weirder and the ratings seemed to reflect that. The franchise started to lose traction as other games started taking over the spotlight. Ratched & Clank/Jak & Daxter and so on.
Therefore, to the OG fans, the only games that matter will be the original trilogy and CTR and to them it's mind boggling how one could not know seemingly basic things about the ''best'' games. The difference here is that you simply grew up with different games and developed different experiences. So don't let it get to you, it's more of a generation gap than anything. Heck, you could even reverse this statement. I bet you could tell me things about Wrath of Cortex that I didn't know.
So it's all good! It's just the nature of internet anonymity that leads people to be as obnoxious as possible sometimes.

I was born in 1996. I remember how my father bought a PS1 and the first 3 games that I actually played in my life at the age of 4-5 were the original Crash trilogy. A little bit later than the original trilogy i received a CTR disc for my ps1. What can I say...I think this is still the game in which i spent the most time in my life! As a result, these 4 games are connected with my childhood and I loved them so much that back in the days i even downloaded them on PSP. What can I say, I still have a PSP with these games and sometimes plays for nostalgic))
Unfortunately, I've never owned an xbox or any ps other than the first one. That's why I didn't play anything that was
exclusive to future versions of the consols. I tried all the other Crash's games that came out on psp (both parts of mutants and probably smth else) but at that school age it didn’t work for me anymore(
However, I consider myself a fan of the character and games in general. Even though i haven’t played all of them, the ones i’ve played through dozens of times are forever in my heart💚
