Driving thru Vernon NJ after ice storm

- Looking up at the mountains, you can see the line where the ice starts. Last few shots are from the intersection of Routes 515 and 94 in the center of Vernon, looking up at the top of the mountain where Highland Lakes is. The location indicated on the map is the top of that hill.
I remember when it happened!
First there was Great Gorge, down by McAfee, then Vernon Valley, then the Playboy Club. There were all these plans to connect them with a monorail or cablecar and turn Vernon into a "Place to Go". Didn't work out too well. Now Intrawest steps in and tires the same thing... I'll bet that new hotel is closed by 2012.
Was it still "Vernon Valley" when you were a kid? Hell, I was there when they BUILT the place...
Well, before the 2010 calendar year ended, the Mountain Creek resort was sold back to Crystal Springs [formerly GAR, if I am correct] and Gene Mulvihill, whom [again, if I am correct] owned the park before selling it to Intrawest in [1997? 1998?].
IIRC, wasn't the closure of Vernon Valley and Action Park due to the parent company's financial issues, partially [largely?] agitated by the massive issues at Action Park?
Wish Intrawest kept some of the rides that were later removed. Sigh.

Personally, I don't think there should be a bear hunt at all. I like bears. But that's the human mentality - if something annoys you, gotta kill it.

Hmmm... I wonder if I knew your parents... When I was "little" I used to ski there almost every day - back in "those days" I was part of the Vernon Twp. Volunteer Ambulance Corp. and they gave us free passes because we used to take so many injuries out of there. Then some fool decided they should have their own ambulance so they could charge folks for a ride to the hospital. Nice - pay to ski, then pay again (10 times as much!) if you get hurt. Capitalism at it's best...
