Really liked this video,it was more about what to do instead of picking apart what not to do that can come across as pretty negative. This was very positive. good tips.

Rory said “watching my videos will make you a better player” and he was right. Watching his videos and listening to his comments has greatly helped my game. I recommended him to a few friends.

Quit referring to senior players “old men”. Very disrespectful. You don’t look that young yourself so u might want to reconsider your language

One of the most common unforced errors I see in open-play pickleball (especially 3.0 and below) is when the player at the NVZ tries to slam a high, descending ball. The put-away looks easy but more often than not, the ball goes into the net.
The player would be better off with a ready position as you mention in tip #8 with the paddle face in a backhand position (at least 45 degrees toward the full back hand)) and learn to PUNCH not swing at the ball. You can vary your grip to control the pace.
One coach I know will stand at the baseline and drive the ball hard right at the student at the NVZ. He alternates between asking the the student to loosen their grip, block and drop the ball or tighten their grip, punch and drive it at his feet.
When you swing, the paddle angle is constantly changing making it difficult to control the path of the ball.
With that said, if you have great hand/eye coordination, fast hands and perfect timing, swing all you want.

If I can do a little picking apart of my own...
This is about the plug for your swag store, Rory.
Let me start by saying I like your channel. :)
First, a "quick time-out" should not be over a minute. On some of your shorter videos, this is 10% or more of the runtime. Quick should be 30 seconds.
Second, "a new business venture" is something I've seen in emails from crypto bros, NFT bros, and the like. Don't associate with them, even accidentally. You have pickleball swag. This is a cool thing. People watching your videos like pickleball (obviously), and folks in general like swag. Tell us right away what's going on. A la...
"A quick timeout to tell you I've opened a shop with the coolest pickleball swag on the internet." Then talk a little, show us some pics, drop the link, and get us back to the video in about 30 seconds.
Like pickleball, copywriting is a learned skill, and you get better with practice. I'm about a 3.25 pickleball player, but probably a 4.0 when it comes to writing copy. I've needed to learn, and I've been fortunate enough to learn from a few smart people.

Thanks for your advice. You're right. It should be a thirty. I sold radio and TV advertising for 30 years. I should know better. I'm going to produce a thirty.

I love the store items. Hope the baseball caps work out but they are very casual. I would love to see an athletic type flex fit or synthetic moisture wicking blend. My local club does offer those, and I actually wear them in games.

    Hey Rory, great tips!
In most of your videos, you advocate for drop shots and usually do not like when players hit a drive. But you have mentioned that drives are at times appropriate. Any tips about when this is so?
    Thanks

    • @pickleballpick-apart9787
      @pickleballpick-apart9787  Před 4 měsíci +1

Thanks for the compliment and thanks for asking. A lot of higher level players will hit a third shot drive followed up with a fifth shot drop. I think the time to hit a drive on the third shot is when the return of serve is very shallow. Like a few feet just beyond the kitchen line. Run up and drive it.

@@pickleballpick-apart9787 When the return is very shallow, I find myself rushing up to the NVZ to save it and not in a position to drive the ball. What do you suggest would be the best strategy at this point?
