Massive amounts of pressure, the inner critic, and resenting people who don't hold themselves to such a high standard...this is all 100% me. This has been extremely illuminating and EXTREMELY accurate to me.
It feels almost comical how accurate the perfectionist descriptions are for me. I also made the connection that Monica from Friends is probably a type 1.

As a One, I relate so much to what you said about people ignoring their issues... it is very NOT me to just let it slide (which would be really healthy), but I learnt to just talk to myself first (who am I to tell anyone what to do?). Then again - when they actually ASK for advice, that's another story, I never ever can be that friend who just wants to make you feel better. Expect brutal honesty once you ask.

Okay wow as an en1, I relate to this video on such a fundamental level--specifically the part when you said how every decision made would have to be the exactly right one, which is something I struggle with daily. And it really is a road block sometimes. Thank you for sharing this video, I really enjoyed it!

Wow you pretty much summed up my life. You sound like an sp. I'm a 1w9 sp. The only thing that I hear a lot about type ones that doesn't really apply to me is the constant inner critic. But yes, what I think and do revolves heavily around morality and justice. Everything in my life needs to be orderly and organized, whether physical or digital. I have a white board with all sorts of never ending to do lists lol. One of my weaknesses as an sp is focusing on myself too much and being too isolated/distant from people. You're right I need to let go and have fun too.
My best friend is a type one and sometimes I get frustrated with her perfectionism. So this video was really interesting to watch, so maybe I can help her or at least understand her more.

If I used the enneagram I would probably be a type one too. So many of the things you talked about are what I do! But I actually use and prefer a different personality system that applies to more than your personality because it is actually about the kind of energy you move through life with. It is called Energy Profiling and Carol Tuttle is the lady who came up with it. She also has so many other resources to help you live your truth as she would say. I am a Type 4 in this system, which sounds a lot like the type 1 you are talking about. I am super interested to see what type you are in her system, and I would love to hear your thoughts on other personality systems too!

I've kinda become obsessed with enneagram and have found the No Chill Enneagram and Enneacast podcasts to be great resources for information and laughs.
I'm an enneagram 2 with a strong wing 1 and I've found Brené Brown's books so helpful when it comes to that side of myself. The insight she gives on judging/perfection really helped me with forgiveness and finding peace of mind.

This is the 2nd video I’ve watched on enneagram. I saw a brief intro, I took a test and it came up 1. Now, here I am. I’m not ok with myself. My life has ground to a halt. I’ll see how enneagram study works.
I'm an INFP and always thought I was a Type 4 until recently. Now I'm starting to align more with Type 1, but it's never listed as a likely Enneagram type for INFPs... Not sure why as Fi seems to be a very Type 1 related function when it comes to being "good and moral".

Super interesting! I'm a 1 and I usually get along with 3s but I always butt heads with 7s. I have a hard time I think because they come off as irresponsible and selfish to me where I feel like I put so much pressure on myself to do the responsible/moral/selfless thing to do so I know it's not their fault but ugh so hard to not get frustrated

I strive for perfection so I can be the standard. If I'm not progressing then I have no purpose. Everything must be orderly for efficiency. I must make things better, not just for me but for everybody without bias. There is right and wrong, but I must be just and impartial in my judgment.

My enneagram is Type 9: The Peacemaker. I'm not sure how many of those exist, to be honest.
After retaking it, turns out that I'm a Type 3: The Performer also.
One of the Enneagram 1s basic fears is to be criticized and condemned.
So Emma may I ask : do you focus on or tend to make the wisest decisions and form concrete stances ?
And be beyond criticism that no one can effect your attitudes and stances or persuade you otherwise unless if it’s in your own favor ; because you always follow the most valid course of action with simultaneously going with your gut feeling , as if you just know deep inside you the right thing to do naturally.

how can you be organized? I don't understand... I am type 1 and nearly everything fits to me and makes sense, but I am not organized .. so .. how?
Do you know where to find everything? If so, you have some method of organization. I'm organized in different ways within various spaces (ie. kitchen, bedroom, work, car) and in some of those spaces it doesn't seem organized to the onlooker.

Dear Emma, I'm a certified Enneagram teacher. Please take some time to look at the other types. You're talking with your hands, Ones don't do that. Resentment is automatic; at your age it would be extremely to be able to think it away. Ones don't talk with your happy, happy upbeat sound and cadence. Being a One is painful. They don't chuckle when admitting the difficult parts of type One. The inner critic can't be ignored. I believe you're identifying with type One in order to avoid your real type. That song isn't a type One anthem. Sort of perfection equals failure. Complete and utter failure. Tiny details and beauty is entirely another type. It's not the things we do; it's our MOTIVATION to do each of these behaviors. Please consider what motivates you. For example, why do you order the things you do in a day? Ones feel that the WHOLE WORLD is being held together with its weight on their shoulders. Noticing everything about them is another type. If you feel happy about finding your type, it's unlikely that it's your true type. Finding your type for most types feels like a punch in the gut. It's everything you didn't want to know about yourself. You've given a contradiction in this video; black and white thinking and shades of gray (you). Only one type can hold a contradiction that easily. Ones: Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, Hillary Clinton. They make a difference. Please don't give advice until you know much more about the Enneagram.

I'm a 1w2 and I talk with my hands. Perhaps the traits you describe would be an unhealthy type one. When I'm disappointed by my efforts I look for the lesson in the experience. I never consider anything a failure. I think she can chuckle at herself because she is familiar with those attributes of her personality. There is a sense of intrigue and delight in knowing you're a 1 because as a perfectionist type we want to understand ourselves more so we can continue striving towards being the best version of ourselves. When I first took the test, my whole office knew my results before I told them. I think Emma's description is spot on.
