This song is painful. It brings me back to my wife's battle with stage 4 cancer. Till she went home this past July. I miss her so much. We are big fans. Bless you all.

Never really gave that line any specific thought until you pointed it out,wow so many interpretations,i have my own ,thanks for bringing it to my attention
Fact from Wikipedia: Depeche Mode main songwriter Martin Gore wrote the song while he was going through a divorce. The track is a message to Gore's children, who were aware of the divorce, and Gore felt guilty that they had to witness the process. Recognising their "fragile" state, Gore expresses his sympathy for them but also mentions that "things get broken" and tells them to keep faith in their parents.
Martin wrote this for his children following his divorce from their mother. All the lyrics follow a theme of sadness and apology to them for what happened.

Mart actually wrote PRECIOUS" cause he was going through his 1st & only divorce,at least until now, I don't think he'll get divorced again... Anyway the lyrics explain his children & ex-wife the awful & terrible Truth! Hoping they would understand when they became adults why their parents weren't Together FOREVER & EVER... Btw, Beautiful ♥️ Title Absolutely PRECIOUS!!
RIP Andy. And this is such a heart breaking song. He’s singing about the effect of a divorce on his children. It’s gut wrenchingly sad but beautiful at the same time - as only Depeche Mode could do it that way. RIP Andy. ❤️❤️❤️

Especially in Russia, there is like special atmosphere, it perfectly fits with this song. Amazing memories... Sorry for bad english, I am 12 now and I keep learning it Edit: i am now 13🎉
Everyone has memories associated with this track. For me, these are school years in a small Russian town, first love, pain and much more. But this track is one of those that has always helped a lot morally. I like it very much, the sound is so cold, but very harmonious, captivating and insanely beautiful. Towards the end, a guitar is added, which makes the overall sound more powerful and even seems to add a little warmth, so unusual and cool is it all.
Depeche Mode is such a great band. What started as an electric pop band really evolved in one of the great rock bands of the last decades. And my God yes what a singular and great voice. Dark is not the best word to describe this song. I would say grunge, heavy metal, and profane rap are dark. "Precious" is definitely on the mellow side of things with a small glimmer of hope.
I was a kid in 2005 when I first time saw this video on a TV. This video became one of my first visual experience, a strongest one! Now I understand the lyrics and understand why this is so important to me. I was a fragile when my parents got divorced in 2003 and father died soon. How is it possible not knowing english at 13 to understand the main idea clearly? All the lyrics feels by the heart! ❤️
It's almost like it's feeling put into what they're singing and not just idle words that make it felt It gives truth to the idea, that words are actually feelings attached Reminds of the rice experiment
Folded Hands Sexy can mean sexy but not in the obvious way. No need to argue about genders and sentiments when music is concerned. Music is what it is. Personas, too. And sentiments have nothing to do with either. So, relax and enjoy the songs. PS: I'm a guy, and longtime DM fan, just saying. "Freelove", everyone.
I love how this song manages to sound like vintage 1980s & 90s DM yet sound completely current day at the same time. This is why these gents are still relevant. Hats off.
I come back to this album so much. This literally sounds like a Violator II, and not in a bad or repetitive way. Like if Violator was a double album, this would fit perfectly as the second album. Yet they are like 15 years apart. I just love this band's music. Always will.
Lilian and John the Revelator are also standout tracks. I think it sounds more like SOFAD 2, like how Precious sounds similar to In Your Room in terms of the driving rhythm and a melancholy edge to both the lyrics and the sound.

How is it possible not knowing english at 13 to understand the main idea clearly? All the lyrics feels by the heart! ❤️
Love ur comment! Same happened to me when I saw pink floyd in the news playing in venice 1989....and my dad past away in the same year as well....
It's almost like it's feeling put into what they're singing and not just idle words that make it felt
It gives truth to the idea, that words are actually feelings attached
Reminds of the rice experiment
Music transcends individual languages, music, is a universal language :-)
I consider myself lucky being a kid(8) when Enjoy the Silence dropped ,now I appreciate it more as an adult.DM can do that👌
That's one of the most beautiful comments I've ever read. Thank you. So beautiful.
If you're still listening to this masterpiece, you have a good taste in music. 💞👌😊👍
Very precious song! Love it.❤
Another example of true sophistication and pure sexiness. Depeche Mode forever.
+A Man Long Gone You must be fun at parties lol.
This song never seems to get old . Brilliant .
I LOVE Depeche Mode 💜
Слушаю ВАС с 18 лет, мне 51. Мурашки от песен... Спасибо что ВЫ есть!!!
Ага, а мне 48, та же история
Мне тоже 51 благодарю DM за то что все годы со мной и в горе и в радости!
I love how this song manages to sound like vintage 1980s & 90s DM yet sound completely current day at the same time. This is why these gents are still relevant. Hats off.
A perfect song about imperfection.
Incredibly beautiful
Probably one of my favourite song by depeche mode. The melody, the depth of the lyrics, and the story behind this song are so touching...
How can an outstanding track like this , only spend 6 weeks in the top 75 ? One of the most under rated tracks ever. R.I.P legend Fletch xxxx
Lyrics :
Precious and fragile things
Need special handling
My God what have we done to you?
We always tried to share
The tenderest of care
Now look what we have put you through
Things get damaged, things get broken
I thought we'd manage, but words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give
Angels with silver wings
Shouldn't know suffering
I wish I could take the pain for you
If God has a master plan
That only He understands
I hope it's your eyes He's seeing through
Things get damaged, things get broken
I thought we'd manage, but words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give
I pray you learn to trust
Have faith in both of us
And keep room in your hearts for two
Things get damaged, things get broken
I thought we'd manage, but words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give
RIP Andy , bardzo mi przykro bo bez Ciebie jest tak że kochający legende Depeche Mode coś w sercu zabolalo , jestem w szoku , młody byłeś i pełny energi ♦️✝️
Depeche mode они такие... Услышав их однажды, невозможно перестать их слушать навсегда.
И это правда! Уже 24 года меня не отпускают.
Exacto, vivís en Rusia ? saludos.

Thanks Martin L Gore for the honesty
you don't hear many people say that about bands these days.
Love it! One of my favorites. This song speaks to me from personal experience and it totally resonates. Brilliant - and Martin Gore is an excellent song writer.
RIP Andrew Fletcher. You are missed.
Precious song 💖
Depeche Mode is of my favorites 😊
Heard this on radio 2 today, completely forgot how brilliant it is , like one of their early eighties bests
2:26
The tone and texture of that guitar gives me shivers everytime I listen.
Same thing HERE
Martin probably used a Big Muff Pi to get that tone.
There is no guitar in the song 🤔

Q.E.P.D. Andy Fletcher Tecladista de Depeche Mode, Dios te bendiga, gracias por brindarnos muy buena música en vida.
With DM it does not matter if your listening to their classic tracks of the 80´s or this AMAZING song from 2005, they are simply the best throught their entire career.
nobody can walk in their shoes
@@marisadelmare7430 we would stumble in their footsteps
