  • Good news: the waitlist is not a hard no! You still have a chance at getting into your desired school. While I wouldn't recommend banking on getting into the school, there are some steps you should probably take if you want to maximize your chances of moving from "waitlisted" to "accepted".
First and foremost, do not contact the UC unless explicitly instructed to do so. If they have not already told you you're position on the waitlist, they probably will not release this information to you at any point. Do not continually hound them asking for updates. If you feel inclined to contact them, wait to do so until after the SIR deadline has passed (June 1st for transfers). Even still, waitlist decision could take months to return.
    Essay tips:
    -write in essay format
-utilize all the word count they give you
    -Convey these three things:
    1) your personal accomplishments/developments since you have submitted your application
    2) explain why you are interested in that specific school. go into DETAIL
    3) state your commitment to the school
-do NOT beg for a spot
I hope this helps you! Good luck :)

100% agree! I was waitlisted to Berkeley, and agree that grades only tell so much of the story, but using the essay space to share additional information not relating to academics is how you set yourself apart! 🙌🏻🤗

Thank you for this video. Just got waitlisted at Berkeley (my first choice) and haven’t heard anything from UCLA yet. Hopefully my essay I write will stand out for them 🙏 🍀.

Strange. I thought the waitlist isn't actually a "list" but rather a pool of students. Or is that just for UC Irvine?

Question hailey does all that process included with graduate students as well or that a whole different story ? I’m asking because I want to go to a UC school in the future for my graduate program .

Well here I am. Got waitlisted at UCSD after spending 3 years at CC. I'm debating about spending another semester at CC and reapply if I don't get off the waitlist. UCSD is my number 1 choice and the major that I applied for at UCSD is literally perfect for me. My thinking is, by spending 1 semester at CC I can finish my major prep and IGETC all while increasing my GPA.
The thing is UCSD didn't say if they wanted at LOCI so i'm not sure if I should email them one anyways.

Hi Omar, it sounds like you have a lot of thinking to do. Were you accepted at any other schools? Your backup plan to go back to CC has potential, but keep in mind there is no guarantee you will get into UCSD next year either, so it might just end up being a waste of time, especially if you have offers from other schools. If UCSD gave you an option to leave a comment on your application even if it wasn't labeled as LOCI that would probably be a good place to let them know you're still interested. Good luck!

Do you know if there’s a maximum of units acceptable for transfer? I’m thinking about doing a 3rd year if I don’t get off from UCLA waitlist but I’m afraid I will have 90 units by that time and I’m not sure they would take that

Just got waitlisted at UCLA! There is a space for additional comments as opposed to an actual space for writing an essay. Any tips?

for the UCLA transfer waitlist, there isn’t an essay. there is a box where we type our grades fall winter and spring, and then an “additional info” section in the same box. Do we write our essay in the additional info section 😭
