- The easiest and cheapest way to get to the Great Wall is to take the subway and bus.
The bus is a superior option than the train as it is faster, arrives closer to the Wall and departs closer to the city center.
We suggest that you get an early start to beat the crowds. The bus 877 departs from the Deshengmen bus station which is a short walk from the Jishuitan subway (line 2). The bus departs frequently based on this schedule:
- April 1 to November 15: 6h00 to 12h30
- November 16 to March 31: 6h30 to 12h30
For the return trip, the bus leaves the Wall as follows:
- April 1 to November 15: 10h30 to 17h00
- November 16 to March 31: 11h00 to 16h30
Price of entry tickets - high season (April 1 to October 31)
- Adult: 40RMB
- Senior (60 and over): 20RMB
- Student: 20RMB
- Child 6 to 18 years old: 20RMB
- Free for child 6 years and younger or less than 1.2 meters.
Price of entry tickets - low season (Nov. 1 to March 31)
- Adult: 35RMB
- Senior (60 and over): 17.5RMB
- Student: 17.5RMB
- Child 6 to 18 years old: 17.5RMB

Possibly the most useful travel video I have ever watched!
Recently took the journey to the great wall with bus 877 thanks to this video! Everything went smoothly considering the price is only 12 RMB each way. Just a note to anyone wanting to go back to Beijing riding the bus: Men offering you to ride their "taxis" might approach you while you're waiting for the bus back to Beijing. They will claim that the bus is leaving much later than it actually is. In my case, they claimed that the bus didn't leave until 11 o'clock when it actually left at 10. Ignore them and ask the staff on the bus when the bus is actually departing instead.
Thanks for uploading these great videos! No reason to go on expensive package tours like many tourists seem to do when you have great and much cheaper options like this.
Great service buying tickets and a great series of videos too.
Thank you...this really helps
thank you! what a great info and suggestions, really help :)
Amazing..really helpful
Very useful. Thanks
thanks. very helpful!
Thank you so much. It's really a great Help....
Thanks buddy very useful
Thank u so much this really help so much ...
thank you very much sir, what a great video. very soon,I am going to visit Beijing certainely this video will help me.
Exactly the video presented, I was there last year, the ugly thing is that some taxi drivers lie just like Matti said below. They said no bus today and tried to get you on their van. The police should clean these up. These rip off biz people is everywhere in Asia. Please be careful with the taxi and very friendly women. But there are many sincere local people. The Great Wall is more than great, it makes you wonder that how many slaves and how long to make this greatest achivment, the Chinese is amazing.
You are the FUCKING best!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Try the lamb grill near the subway entrance yummy. I’ll be back soon Beijing.
Thanks for the great video! What would be the fastest way to Jishuitan station from the airport?? And how long would it take in total travel time from the airport to the wall??
By public transportation, you take the Airport Express ¥25) to Dongzhimen then the subway (¥3)
Here is a good interactive subway map: explorebj.com/subway/
You need to do this in the morning.
A taxi would be about ¥90
Amazing video!!! Perfectly made and useful. So, I'm arriving to airport April 21st on a Monday at 4:30am and departing 9 1/2 hours later at 2pm. Need to return to airport by noon. And probably can be out of airport by 5:30am. I really want to try and bus this way, you think it's possible? Only risk is not knowing exactly how frequently bus runs returns to city and what times. Also my Mandarin is non existent so I can't ask for help too much while there. Thanks!
This will be very difficult. the first bus back from Badaling is at 10h30. It means that at best you will be at the airport at 12h30 for your 2h00 flight. The buses depart continuously when full. Also, if you do not have a visa, you may be allowed to leave the secured area of the airport.
@@ChinaDIYTravel Thank you for your reply! Luckily I found an option where I can stay a few nights there at no extra charge before flying to my next country. Also I'm able to get the 144 hour visa free entry. So I can definitely do this now! Thank you for the info. :D
Thank you for clear and useful instructions. I'm landig 4:40 and departing at 18:55. Do you think 6:20 airport train and line 2 can be taken safely by somebody not familiar with Chinese subway? Isn't it a peak hour?
Sure. From the airport you take the Airport Express then switch to the subway. Here is a subway map: explorebj.com/subway/ You can also watch our video on how to ride the Beijing subway: czcams.com/video/RI896M5OdSY/video.html
Thank you for the great video! On the shields of the bus station is shown a time (Minute 1:00 of your video). Does that mean, that I only could use this bus 877 between 6 o'clock and 12:30?
Correct to Badaling. The bus goes to Badaling in the morning and returns in the afternoon (11h to 16h30).
You can also take S train S2 from HuangtuDian(subway HuoYing station, Line8/13) to BaDaLing. Note you may experience extreme long quene. And check out S2 timetable before taking it.
Good news is that, in 2019Q4, the JingZhang Highspeed rail will open, and there will be new S2 express line using this rail from Beijing North railway station/XiZhiMen via QingHe to the new underground BaDaLing station.
If you missed 877, you can also take bus 919/919 Express.
Don't use google map here, google's data is very outdated. Use baidu/gaode map.
We actually hate go to BaDaLing in travel seasons. Just Tons of people....
Recently, you can also go to Beijing Expo 2019, just take some shuttle buses (see bjbus.com) or S2 train.
Currently, the train is not as convenient and not as frequent. It might be better once the new train station is completed.
Hi, thank you for a very clear instruction.
How many hour do you spend in total from bus 877 departing until you arrive back in the city bus stop?
It depends on how much time you spend on the Wall. Transportation is one hour each way. With, say, 2 hours on the Wall then it is about 4 hours. This can be done in about half a day.
China DIY Travel - China Train Ticket Booking Thanks a lot for your quick reply!
If u have Beijing subway card then u can go with train u can get transfer from lone 13 or lone 8 ...also after get train that is only go for great wall
But there are very few rains while the bus is always running. A new train should be launched before the olympics. We will do a video about it then.
How to take that subway card
U can buy subway card any subway station from cash counter
You buy it in a subway station. Note that the train runs very infrequently while the bus departs continuously.@@capera456
I have seen that there’s a slide in some part of the wall, by any chance is in this side or the other route? Thank you for your help
Yes I have seen it but not too sure where to catch it.
Any suggestion for us to take water or something else along with us
You can but you can also buy some on the Wall from some old ladies selling some. Something less to carry. If you go in the summer, bring some sunscreen.
Possibly the guy who disliked this video was the scammer lol
Does anyone know of the great wall is and public transportation run on Chinese New year? I'll be in Beijing in those days in 2020. Hope anyone can help!
I can't tell for sure but if it closes it would be on New Year's day only or maybe on the eve. I am quite confident that it will be open for other days.
😗
How about using S2 train from Huangtudian to Badaling station? Which one is better, bus or train?
The disadvantage with the train is that there are very departures while the bus runs continuously. A new train built for the winter olympics will start operating possibly later this year and this one might be better. It will also be high-speed.
Do you need to buy a return bus ticket or buy separate when you want to get back?
No, there are no return tickets. You pay the fare each time or swipe the transportation card (and pay half price in this case).
Hi, Me and my husband are planning to take our 2 and half year old toddler. So can you please let me know the easiest method? If I go there by train do I have to climb a lot for cable cars? Where do the cable cars take us? Can I use them to climb up and come down on foot? Or if I choose to travel both ways by cable car, can we walk less? If I feel baby is getting exhausted can I return immediately or I have to walk the wall anyway ? Please advise!
Sorry but I came from the bus side and did not use the cable cars. So I have no knowledge about them.
919 ..877 u can 919 from shahe
Hi, i have 9hours lay over in Beijing Airport. Do u think that is enough to go to
the great wall and be back at the airport?
Assuming that they let you leave the airport (not a sure thing), then you only have 6 hours. Then it depends on the time of day as the last bus to the Wall at Badaling is around noon. Your times need to be perfect and you won't have too much time at the Wall. I think that it is a bit of a stretch in the best scenario.
no any food seller inside of the great wall ??!!
Not on the Wall itself but many near the entrance. you need to have some chuan'r (lamb skewers).
Love the grilled lamb.
After the bus ride at Badaling, how can I go to the cable car station for a ride up? How long is the walk from Badaling bus station to cable car station? Thanks.
It is not really convenient to take the cable car when you arrive by bus as it is rather far. Ok if you arrive by train. Note that at Badaling you get on the Wall at ground level. You do not need to climb to get on the Wall although as you walk on the Wall, you will be going up (and down),
Yes. But if you change your mind you can buy them also when you get to the base of the Wall. You need to buy the entry ticket at the visitor center though.
Thanks again for your very prompt advice.
So it means if taking a train, it will be more convenient to get to the cable car station. As for taking a bus, one can easily walk up to and down on the wall.
Any idea how far is the distance from north tower 1 to north tower 8? How long will it take for a return journey (by slow walking)?
Will it be easier & faster to walk from north tower 1 to north tower 10 then come down from tower 10 & go back to bus station?
Tower 1 to tower 8 is a lot of climbing then you come down to tower 10. This is the way that I did it. I am not sure but I think that it took me 1h to 1.5 hours. Coming down to 10 rather than back to 1 is steeper. The train is more convenient to the cable car but there aren't many trains.
The Bear park is really awful, but thanks - that helps a lot
Yes, totally agree.
You're not allowed to eat inside the bus.
this way seems alot easier then mutianyu
Yes, and this is why it is more "popular".
No need of special train tikit
