i really like your review, especially the idea of using the specialita as the dedicated grinder for espresso, and hand grinder for the rest! keep up the excellent work!
Thank you for talking about grind quality and retention in a detailed way. Most other reviews in general just mention that and focus on features.
Extremely good review! The way you discussed the hopper vs single dose was game changing for me. Made me realise I don't really need the digital timer at all if I pre-weigh my beans for the dose.
I bought a Specialita to carry me over until I could get a Niche. When I finally got a Niche, I actually liked the Specialita better for espresso. Unpopular, but I use it exclusively for espresso and the Niche for pour over.
I very much enjoy your presentations and reviews.
Totally agree
Interesting, I just got mine through a great Black Friday deal. It seemed to me during research that Specialitá > Niche seemed the way to go. Does your statement still hold true?
@@1b0o0 I still have the same configuration with the same use. The only difference in my preference now, is that I would consider a different grinder for pour over. Something in a similar price range. Some of these new grinders that are coming out are getting outrageously priced, in my humble opinion.
@@stevealvarez1481 thanks for replying a year later! I only drink espresso and occasionally steam some milk for my wife. I’m loving my specialita, and I would probably won’t appreciate a 1K grinder anyway 😂
Your review on this grinder has earned you a new subscriber. Keep up the great work it is very appreciated.
great vid. had a specialita for a few months and have been loving using it
Such a great point you make about having an electric grinder vs manual for espresso. I never felt that compelled by manual grinders but you just added clarity to my thoughts. Thanks for the good review btw. Think i'm going to pull the trigger on this grinder
Thanks for this comprehensive review of the Specialita. Eureka's Mignon line really impresses me. I'm looking to upgrade to an espresso focused grinder. The Facile is what I've decided on. Is is essentially the same grinder as the Silencio without the timing function. These have 50mm burrs and most people would not notice the difference from the Specialita's 55mm. Focusing on budget the Facile is priced $300 less than the Specialita.
Lovely and thorough review, thank you. More close ups of the device may have been nice, but I appreciated the views you had
Really well thoughtout review. Thanks!
Thanks for a great review. I just got mine but I'm waiting for my espresso machine to arrive so I can try it out! I watched several reviews and this was the most helpful for me.
Very nice Video! Thank you.
I am using the Specialita since over a year and I am very happy with it. My wife uses single doses (Café Latte) and me double (Flat White). We fill the basket fot the day and the results with the timer are so incredible consistent (+-0.15g). The only downside is, as you already mentioned, the adjustment knob.
Have had mine for a week and I think it’s brilliant.
thankyou for the review it helped me decide to buy this one.
Great review, thanks man!
Great review! And I watched a lot to make a decision for a new grinder.
Been looking for a good review of this machine and it seems that I've finally found it. The Specialita is in my radar right now because most machines out there either cost pennies and are no better than smashing coffee beans with a hammer or are more expensive than a brand new family car where I live. This one seems to be at a nice middle spot : costs about as much as my computer and hey, if I could afford this laptop with a bit of saving up then I can surely afford this.
Great review, thanks! 👍
I picked up the base model (mignon manuale). Even lacking the features and dampening from the nicer models, it’s hefty and just feels solid and well made
Excellent information. Just searching for an espresso grander upgrade from my Rancilio to go with my Gaggia classic
Hey man, happy to have found your channel. You're one of the most sober and knowledgeable reviewers out there.
My quick question: What's your recommended setting for grind fine-ness on the specialita - gaggia classic 2020?
Agree 100% about using electric grinder for espresso and hand grinder for brew coffee. That's the setup I have now with my Specialita and Lido ET, and it works great! As a bonus, I also sometimes like to use my Lido with moka pot when I go camping. :-)
I’ve been using the Eureka Mignon Facile model for single dosing since February 2020, and loving it. Same motor and build except for 50mm burrs and no features. It is therefore less expensive but works like a charm.
Your reviews are very good. Nice and thorough! I decided to try a sette 270 wi. The noise doesn’t it bother me but I would appreciate a quiet grinder.
Thanks, Jason. At least the Sette is super fast which is nice
Great review, this just pushed me further into purchasing one. Btw, do you notice any drift in the adjustment dial?
Thanks! Nope, never experienced any drifting.
Thanks for another fascinating review packed with lots of useful information. I am envious of your Robot and spiffy grinder setup, but I will resist the temptation of buying a new grinder and espresso maker. I have been thinking of designing a dosing mod for my Baratza grinder, so I am grateful for the idea and thingiverse link that you have provided. I had been thinking of adding bellows to expel grounds, but a rubber puffer is a terrific idea.
Thanks for the kind words. It's dfinitely experimenting a bit with these mods!
I think you could use a lens bellows puffer to do the job and will try that with my new grinder
I have same grinder and totally agree with your cons and pros.
Great review mate! You mentioned you use Scandanavian light roast for espresso. What will be your espresso setting here? You mentioned about near burr rub and wondering if this grinder provide any leverage to adjustments and is suitable for Scandanavian light roast? Secondly with Scandanavian light roast, do you get a great espresso or do you have to work on longer contact time on Robot to yield good espresso with crema and body?
Great review for this grinder. II am going to the Sette 270 because of this difficult dial adjustment. What's is your impression about the Sette? Does it have flat or conical burrs? Thanks for sharing.
I totally agree with your review and would put the Eureka Specialita up there with my Niche Zero. I often single dose so will need to try the 3d printed dosing mod. I had no idea that such a thing existed!
You have both of them? How do they compare? If you had to keep only one which one would you choose? (:
I have the silenzio and I am totally happy with the grinder. I wish it could do for some pour over but I guess I have to keep my vario for that mater.
That sounds like a magnificent team!
Just ordered myself a Silenzio replacing my 4 year old Baratza Encore which just broke a few days ago. Paired with my Rocket Appartamento, I think it will be a NICE upgrade and can't wait to see the results!
@@jdpst20 It definitely is a nice upgrade. With your appartamento it'll make an awesome combination. There is nothing more you can wish for. Congratulations.
I just bought the Mignon Silenzio which has the analog timer and manual mode. Basically, same grinder without the display timer and associated functions. If you plan to single dose a lot, get that model. It’s less expensive at $500. Great value and quality for single dosing and less than the Niche. And yes it is relatively quiet. I really like this grinder. Little tricky to dial in, but once you do, you’re good to go. I do get more flavor and notes out of this grinder than my previous with conical burrs.
I believe the Silenzio has a smaller burr set.
Thank you for the review! I own this grinder for 2 month now. I bought it to use for my espresso machine at home. But I have to say that in my humble opinion it also works great for other brewing methods such as the French press. I'm now trying to use it for my V60. Once you get used to it it's not very difficult to switch between different settings. Any opinions on that?
For sure, it's a pleasure to use for espresso. But as I said in the video, I only did pour over a few times, so didn't really get into a groove going back in forth between settings. The results for V60 were a bit uneven and I have some really consistent grinders for manual brewing, so didn't really bother with it.
Great video, thank you! I already known the specialita but came here regarding the single mod. Thank you for adding the files. If I take to someone who prints 3d, can I give them the files to make? Thanks
Yes, they might ask you about some small details about the job. I got layer 0.1 mm 25% infill and it worked out fine, but also worth getting their feedback since :)
Thorough review, however in my two months with it, clumping is NOT minimal, but a real constant. the water droplet technique helps a touch as I am in a dry climate, but I still struggle with . I agree with most of your other points however. I also am mostly quite close to the true zero point when I grind light roasts.
Hi, would you consider to use this one for a small coffee cart? Also, since you have mentioned the G Iota grinder, how does this compare to it as they are almost in the same price range.
Thanks for the video assessment of the Specialita. I have just purchased this grinder as a step up from a Rancilio Rocky I have had for some years. I want to make a comment on grind retention, that is a major part of your presentation. Part of the reason I purchased this grinder was your evaluation of grind retention. However, after watching another video of a cleaning breakdown (after purchase) of the Specialita (check out Alex and Specialita) I want to point out to prospective purchasers that this grinder (like the Rocky) does retain grinds and a simple breakdown of the grinder for cleaning will demonstrate this. 15.1gms in and 15.1gms out probably includes retained grinds from earlier ground beans, which is not identified in your video. Designers should make breakdown for cleaning much easier in my view, as part of the total design process, but saving a dollar in production costs usually outweighs user convenience. I anticipate the need to do a full clean on a monthly basis for this grinder.
I am looking also to upgrade from the Rocky . What is your overall opinion of the upgrade - worth it? Any improvement in coffee?
@@leogirling yes, timed dosing and stepless adjustment and larger burrs. Having said that I have moved further up the ladder and now have the Specialita and a Ceado E37 which has excellent grind adjustment and much larger burrs
Very good review. Would the Manuale be comparable? I always see the specialita reviewed…
There are several other grinders in the Eureka Mignon series, including some without the timed function you mentioned not being worth it for those who stick to single dosing - do you know of the grind quality is consistent across the models? Thanks for the great review!
Which one would you recommend if you only single dose
Asser, have you preferred the espressos out of the Specialita or the DF64 based on your testing?
is there a difference in the grind quality and retention between the silenzio and the specialita?
That weight based on timer it's mind blowing precise! I hate single dosing... I feel like in 2021 it's so not modern to dose every time youre beans and pay 500+ euros foar a grinder that practically it only grind the beans!!
I mean, for what we ar paing all this money?
I prefer use a time base wheight grinder like this, put in the mornin 200 grams of coffee and if by the end of the night i don't use them i can store them back in to a container.Greate review, I'm gonna order it.
Nice review, but I don't see you measuring any retention at the part at 9:19. If the machine retains, say, 2g. And you grind 15g of beans. It will push out the 2g of stale coffee and then another 13g of fresh coffee. And will retain 2g again. So you of course end up with 15g of ground coffee. It doesn't matter how much the real retention is. If you blow it out every time and it retains only roughly 1g now, you will still suffer from the same problem: 1g retained, 15g beans in, 1g stale coffee + 13g fresh coffee out, blowing adds another 1g of fresh coffee, leaving you again with your 15g ground coffee of which 1g is stale, 14g are fresh and 1g retained in the machine.
Yes testing is a bit more tricky then I thought. And the vocabulary as well. I assumed that all "exchange-retention" would have been blown out, since the results were so conistent in the tests I did off camera. I have since tested in a different ways, and seen that there is a bit of "exchange" every time. Not much but some.
Then there's the "real" non-exchange retention that gets stuck in the nooks and crannies every time you clean the grinder, which all grinders have including the Niche Zero. The results would also be misleading if I cleaned the grinder before every cycle, because it would gradually retain less.
Hi there! Would you personally prefer this one over the Niche Zero?
I'd love to see your review of the Ode as I think there's a very high chance I buy it. Huge vertical flat burrs, quiet, and easy to clean all impress me.
Thanks, I've got the Ode on my list so maybe in future.
The Ode is not for espresso though.
It’s quite messy as well, there’s better grinders for the money unless you specifically want it for how it looks. Not based on my experience, but from several other reviews. James Hoffman and another guy reviewed it pretty thoroughly.
Love this grinder, the Silenzio version. It does have a lot of retention. Practically this does not matter much as the grounds stay put, mostly. If you blow out or open the top of the grinder and scrape them out, which I do every week or so, you will see all the coffee in there. And if you don’t do it often you will find it does spoil your shots. Still love the grinder for the size and the consistency.
Is vacuuming enough, or does any coffee get stuck in the chute which the vacuum doesn’t reach?
@@numb15 Good news is the grinder was designed to easily open the top and remove the top burr plate. Below the bottom burr plate there are 3 sections and ribs / blades that are meant to push / spin the grounds out of the chute. But coffee gets caught around and behind each of those. You will only remove the coffee by scraping them out. Using burr cleaner tabs Grindz would help maybe, but I don't use those - and I'm concerned the Grindz particles would get stuck with the coffee also. Its messy but worth opening the top after you vacuum and see how much gets left behind. A lot of nook and crannies.
Beans in the hopper do not age that fast vs in a bag or canister. You have to store the beans somewhere, right? I used to single dose and now usually fill the hopper. I use fresh beans about a week off roast and sometimes single origin. I use the beans in one week or so. Great tasting espresso every day. YMMV.
I am looking for a dingle dosing filter coffee grinder. I am in between Baratza Encore and Eureka Mignon Filtro. I would prefer the Eureka but the grind retention is a question mark on my mind. I do tend to change the coffee I drink daily. Which would you recommend?
Hi It sound like you are from Jylland DK, if I am not mistaking 😊
Anyway you have many nice videos out 👍
I have the Eureka Mignon Specialita and had have it for half a year, Love it. (very silent)
Although I use it mostly for filter coffee.
I use it for 2 cups equal to 38 gm to 640 ml.
The settings for filter coffee is almost at maximum size.
In the community out there, there is a 3D Print file of a large scale where the is a gear to the small nop so it is easier to dial-in however it is NOT making the grinder more beautiful.
There is also a 3D Print base plate which is useful, making it tilt to the front, a little like the new model.
👍Thank you for your video👍
Eureka just took it up a notch with the Mignon XL. Even lower retention due to bigger “diamond inside” 65mm burrs in the same enclosure, faster grinding and improved adjustment knob.
I’m really happy with mine so far. I hope the rumours of a single dose “hopper” make their way to market soon.
Great review. Thank you! Mignon means "cute" it's a french word. Just ordered this grinder.
Nice, it is cute.
Mignon also means "small and gracious" in Italian
Do you like the grinder? I'm planning on buying one as well
I have had this grinder for over a year. I made it a single dosing grinder after about a month into ownership with a clear pvc pipe. I have minor .1-.2g retention, and yes the knob is far too small to easily adjust the grinder in tiny increments.
Are 65 mm of the XL really better ( in term of results in the cup) than the 55mm burrs of Specialita ? In your opinion.
hi can you explain what is the different between perfetto and specialita beside the bur size?
Thanks for this review... What about the filtro/chrono?
Don't know much about those, but also curious :)
@@coffeechronicler :) they seem to be competitors to the Ode and Uniform...
How often do you have to clean it up? I know you have to unscrew a couple of screws to do so that’s why I want to know
Out of all the Mignon models which one is best for espresso and Turkish coffee? I basically make two to three cups of long pull espressos daily. I go back and forth between caffeinated and decaffeinated. I'd like to stay in this price point.
I've noticed in other reviews that the burrs may need to be calibrated. I this something which needs to be done routinely? Lastly, is this the machine which has that extra-hardened burrs?
Just ordered one after my Rancilio Rocky grinder died after 7 years of intense use. Hope it is a big step up to my espresso barista game. Grinder more important than machine for espresso nirvana.
How does it compare with the Rocky? I'm looking at the same upgrade right now..
I use the Silenzio and like it a lot. But i kind of have the same problem with light roasted coffee. I need to push the seeting so far that when i use single dose, the burrs are touching. Thats a bit annoying.
How does the flavor/grind quality compare directly with the niche for espresso?
It's good your getting 15g out when you put 15g in but it doesn't mean there's no retention going on since you may have some coffee from your last 15g being transferred to your new 15g. You'd have to clean out the machine completely and weigh what you found in there and/or then measure if you lost any coffee after putting another 15g through the clean grinder.
Ah I see others have made similar comments, sorry.
Hi Ben, I mixed up the terms exhange, retention and dose consistency a bit here. Still I'd say that the retention you get after cleaning isn't that interesting. Even the niche zero has some of that :)
Any chance you will be getting a demo model of the Mignon XL that just launched to do a comparison with the Specialita?
I'd like to try it but there are no concrete plans at the moment
I would choose it over the niche zero because of the warranty. Since niche doesn't have an official distributor in my country.
Yes, warranty should definitely be a deciding factor.
I've never had anything 3D printed before. Can I use this file to send to a printer? And did you have the little black puffer made as well?
It's a bit more complicated than that, so you probably need someone who have tried it before to assist you. The dust blower came with one of my other grinders, but I think you can find something similar in photography shops or Amazon.
I’ve had the Specialita for 6 months. Originally paired with a Gaggia and now with an ECM Classika. It’s everything you say it is - a superb grinder. I use it as a single dose. Works brilliantly. I don’t do pour overs so I can’t comment on the quality of the grinds for that. But for espresso this is a great machine. Thanks for the link to the 3D doser. Looks like a useful addition. Really enjoyed the video. Oh I should add that if you live in Canada I recommend buying it from idrinkcoffee. They have a brilliant return policy and warranty.
Thanks for the kind words. The mod is really useful, but I like the look more with the square hopper, so it's a tough decision :)
I am trying to dial a coffee for my brother in law I wish the adjustment knob was much much bigger the smallest movement is a big grind difference.
Great review. i'm still hesitating with the Faustino :D the Specialita have a bigger burr and the front button... but the Faustino looks better imo :D
I think the Mignon line looks great, though :)
I was on fence between these two grinders as I have a Rocket Cellini espresso machine that I love. Went with this one for the digital features to make dosing simpler.
@@coffeechronicler Yeah i got the Mignon, and it looks great in real life actually :D
I would like to see ceado grinders!
I use a stove top for my espresso. What do you recommend for an entry level girder? And how fine a grind do you recommend for stove top. Thanks.
You can grind somewhere between espresso and Aeropress. But you don't need a real espresso grinder, a good conical burr grinder like Baratza Encore or 1Zpresso Jx will be fine.
@@coffeechronicler Thanks fro getting back to me. My fav coffee is only sold as whole beans. Cheers.
To make finer micro adjustments, does it require to have burr running with beans? I read a few forums that it’s recommended way. That seems like a lot of coffee waste and quite hard to dial in.
Beans aren't needed but the grinder should be running, especially if you are adjusting for a finer grind.
handgrind for espresso with the kinu m47 is quite easy and fast (30 sec for 17g). a lot faster than grind french press with my hario!
Hej :) Hearing your accent I am assuming your are from Denmark? I am getting my Specialita soon and was wondering where you printed the 3D single dosing hopper? Can you recommend something here in DK/Copenhagen that doesn’t cost a fortune? :-)
Hi Gerald, good guess! However, I'm not sure where the best spot is to have it printed in Denmark, since I don't live there anymore :)
@@coffeechronicler I just got it from a FB group where people offer to print for others :-) I am still struggling with dialing in the espresso and finding the right grind size. It feels like I need to grind really fine to reach a proper extraction time and it takes around 20s to grind 19gr. My beans from MOK are a bit challenging right now so that might be one reason... I know it’s always up to the beans, but how many numbers up from the burrs touching point are you going up to be in espresso area-ish?
Thanks for the video.
I own the Specialita for about 8 months now. I started noticing problems with it when I opened it to clean it. First I thought it was the misalignment and I fixed it but even now, I can only get my 20-25 second extraction when the burrs are touching each other. No one talked about this on CZcams and I don't know if that's normal or not. Where do you get your sweet spot?
The local dealer won't look at it as long as it's still grinding and running. So that's useless.
Hey, I know there were some specialitas that were shipped with the wrong burr configuration. Two lower burrs, I think. Maybe that could be the issue?
@@coffeechronicler how can I check for that? I'm also not sure if that's the issue because I bought a new burr set anyways. They looked identical to me. Aren't they? 🤔
The another, less expensive, model Mignon Manuale. Best choice for single dosing?
It has smaller burrs than the Specialita - similar to the Silenzio, I believe. Both of them should be good and budget-friendly options for singe dosing
What about one of the cheaper Mignon grinders with the 50mm burrs? I prefer single dosing, and don't need the top of the line. Is there a quality difference with the smaller burr?
Yeah i'm thinking of getting their mignim notte
I have this grinder. The retention is around 1.9g every time. If you want to test the retention, you should clean the grinder and do the test, you will find the first time will miss around 2g .
Not just simple record how much in and how much out.
Try some blow up system function will work. Not just the little balloon.
The video show 0.2g retention may missleading the potential buyer😁
That's a valid concern. I think both methods of measurement have pros and cons, but that the more correct result is somewhere in between. The first times you run the grinder some nooks and crannies get filled up, and once that's done, the retention going forward will be less. So measuring without cleaning is closer to the real life/daily use scenario. You can also visualize it if you change between a really light roast and dark roast, you will see that the retenion is rather small.
Hey mate, just got this model. Just wondering with the screw that locks the hopper in, is it meant to go through the rubber ring? My rubber ring seems to stop the screw from going into the hopper screw hole
No, it's just there to add a bit more stability. But I usually don't tighten it, it's not really necessary.
@@coffeechronicler awesome thanks for the quick reply. I went out and bought one after watching this video 😀
@@coffeechronicler also, I’ve finding it difficult to get used to the stepless adjustment. How much are you spinning the adjustment knob to dial in a new batch of beans. Is it 1 or 2 notches or more, or micro adjustments of less than 1 notch
In regards to exposure to the light, couldn't they simply make a solid black plastic or would Eureka Mignon Hopper smoke fit to this one?
Great grinder but no thought was put into easy cleaning of the chute. One needs to remove 5 screws and take apart the machine and worry about stress on the two electrical connector cord for the front pulse switch and the control panel.
He's yummy! I'm subscribing!
Thx for the nice vid.
What I am missing are some real cons. If its a authentic review there should be some reflected arguments, even which points are not well done.
Using my Specialita for a couple month and I like it very much.
Its a dedicated Espresso grinder. The perfetto is meaned for filter coffee although.
Design, sound, build, usability and pricing is nice. Timer and interface is excellent. Grinding quality, and output volume in weight is very predictable.
Things I dont like, missimg in the vid:
- hopper is cheap and plastic like
- top of the grinder is chrome- plastic and got a very sharp edge.
- mount for the portafilter is cheap and "wobbling". Not nice in usage with sharp edges.
- There is some retention when you are cleaning the grinder ( after losen the screws ) - more than I expected.
Maybe at the moment in mid 2021 its altogether one of the best alrounders for home espresso brewers in midrange "prosumers" category.
Flexibility for dialing in could be better, cleaning inside could the easier. Plastic parts should be more solid(!)
Altogether: would buy it again, but ordered a niche zero aditionally - for testing own roasts and flexible dial in.
I’ve been using the Mignon Perfetto for a couple of years now. This is after several years as a professional barista. Best grinder for home use for sure (especially when considering how economical it is)
Love mine. Also feel like I’m often close to zero. :)
How often do you have to clean this grinder? I like it but read lots of negatives about how the grinder jams easily and that frequent cleaning is required.
My Comandante hand grinder can grind for my Gaggia Classic but it's a real pain, especially for going between espresso & v60. I was considering the wilfa uniform though sadly I emailed them & they replied that they have no plans of ever making a 110V for US outlets. I have a Niche Zero arriving in December though I wasn't aware of this grinder, I may have spent a lot of time deciding between these two.
Yes, hand grinding for espresso overlaps with real fitness training :D You will probably be very happy with the Niche. Don't think you can go wrong with either of these two.
The Coffee Chronicler I just got a robot and a kinu grinder, about 30 seconds to grind 18 grams!
@@joconnell Kinu rules!
How is the Sound compared to the uniform? And is it worth upgrading from a uniform ?
Very quiet. If the use is for espresso only, I'd say yes
Is this grinder good enough for a coffee trailer?
What about the Vario, or do you have issues with its durability?
The build quality is at a higher level with the Mignon. I don't know the Vario that well, but it actually seems like Baratza favors Sette as the better grinder of the two. At least for espresso.
If you do want to 3d prnt the single dose attachment, then you can go to craftcloud: craftcloud3d.com/ and they will print it for you. Click "Get instant quote" then upload the files, then set your locaton, currency and make sure to set the measurment unit to mm otherwise it will be too big. i would suggest chosing PETG for the material as it is food safe, the second cheapest and durable. You can use what ever finish you want but you dont need anything other than standard. Keep the infill at what it is. Chose your preffered color and order it!
Hi, the chrome finished area, are they plastic? Thanks
The chrome is metal, but the start button and part of the exit chute is plastic, as far I recall
I think that, due to the flexibility of this machine, being able to be modified to single dose, and its wide availbility, its a no brainer compared to the niche zero which is also great but once you consider shipping fees and duties....
Can it grind whole peppercorns?
Help me decide. Specialita or Mignon XL? Price wise it's almost 50% more for XL. Is it possible to feel the difference in the cup?
Haven't tried the XL. But you could also wait for the new Mignon Single Dose, which has the same burrs as XL but a price closer to specialita.
@@coffeechronicler you're right. The thing is I am tired of waiting. SD probably won't be here this year. I am in contact with retailer and right now there waiting for delivery and it it supposed to arrive mid December.
do you sell the 3d print? i'd like to get that for my specialita
I don't sell it, but you can use the link down in the description and print the files for yourself if you know somebody with a 3D printer. Alternatively you can probably find a shop online that will do it for a small fee.
I just want a flat burr, under 1k that I can use for everything. Can I get a niche with flat burrs please?
2 years with a La Pavoni Europiccola and 1 year with the Specialità, coming from an old MDX. I totally love the Specialità, I use it with the hopper... I have a couple of shots videos in my channel if you want to check it out 🙂
How are manual grinders? I’ve read they grind good but people don’t like the work, however I do not mind using my hands, can I really get just as quality grinds in a manual grinder in comparison to an electric?
I love manual grinders for regular coffee, but for espresso they can be a bit too much work. It's a lot harder to crank at a fine setting. You can get great cups, but you're limited to conical burrs. So if you want to experience the different flavor of flat burrs, you have to go electric.
@@coffeechronicler thanks! :)
I really liked my experience with this grinder, until I didn't. I had even set the grind Turkish level with dark roast and it did it. 3 years to the week, it started to stall. Initially, the chute was plugged, which caused the whole thing to stall. Cleaned and tried to get the grind back to espresso range. Jammed again. Replaced the motor run capacitor. No real difference. Still stalling at espresso grind settings. I now have a $700 drip grinder. I am using my Kinu hand grinder trying to decide what next.
How it's co. Pared to wilfa uniform? I have a uniform, should i upgrade to eureka mignon?
Very different grinders. Mignon is for espresso only, Wilfa is more suited for manual brewing
@@coffeechronicler thank you, I'm using the wilfa for espresso now😬, but I'm planning for an upgrade, thanks for the good review🙏
