Shark Evo ES helmet review

- The Evo ES is the latest iteration of a Shark helmet that has been around for many years. Not sure if the idea was first invented by Roof or Shark, but the concept is a full-face helmet where the chin bar can be pivoted around the shell to sit at the back of the helmet. It gives, in some ways, the best of both worlds. In one configuration you have a proper full-face helmet; in the other a proper open-face. And it does this in a way that is cleverer and more practical than a flip-lid helmet. Now, a few years ago, Shark developed a version called the Evo One. It tackled one particular issue that had, apparently, marred the experience for some customers. Namely, that you had to raise the visor when you pulled the chin piece around from the back of the helmet to the front. The problem was that the mechanism didn’t work. Shark blamed the Pinlock. They created the Evo One 2; it was better but not perfect. This latest version is called the Evo ES, and it doesn’t have a Pinlock at all. Chris, as he always does, tells us what he thinks.

Finally someone giving clarity on the scratched pinlock on the evo one. I had this issue and it was never fixed. Drove me nuts. Finally removed the pinlock, no scratches since then.
Clearly a consummate professional who fully understands his products and it is a joy to joggle through his various videos to determine the accurate flaws and successes of our motorcycle equipment. Thank you, Man With The Cap - and the pipe that does not appear to ever have been lit.
Thank you very much for your detailed and concise explanation on those helmets. Michael
I had the original, the non pin lock version, I quite liked it, maybe a tad heavy with the drop down visor and flip mechanism,Now have the roof boxxer carbon as my modular, not perfect in very heavy rain, that said did 3000km round Europe with no real issue
Still got my Evo one. Scratches, yes and also leaks really badly in the wet from the top of the visor, so has been put back for summer use really.
Schuberth C3 for winter but getting old, so will look at one of these new Evo's
You will NEVER stop visors misting in really cold or damp weather though.
This channel is awesome.
It really is good isn't it. I hope they are proud of how good it is.
Where I can get a new cheek pads for my Evo ES?
I've had an Evoline series 1 for 7+ years. It had some issues, but Shark put them right, it's still used as my commuting hack and it has been great. I bought the Evo ONE series 1 and it had terrible build quality along with the visor scratch issue pointed out in this video. The Evo ONE series 2 was no better. Both went back to helmet city who were amazingly good at taking them back.
The anti-fog coating in the Evoline was always really great. Sure after about 18 months to 2 years it started to wear out, but I always wondered why the evo-ONE series used a pinlock that never fitted properly and didn't really work like in my other helmet.
I think finally I may risk buying the Evo ONE-ES as it was a lovely helmet to wear, especially in the summer.
Dave Kind so how is it
I have the evo one two with the es visor. Much better Shark need to start using 90 pinlock. Great helmet in all weather's.
Yes! Agree with this. The original visor lasted years for me. I got the evo one and was very disappointed and the build quality yes it feels cheap and not as safe. It's smaller on the outside definitely but not worth the drop in quality. Pinlock is awful. And I add that the air vents are too good and let in bugs when in the country side. They should have filter inside. I have pulled over because I feel insects crawling in my hair or because they fly inside my visor.
Can someone explain how/why rain doesn't get inside the top shade visor slot on the top of the helmet during a rain storm. Thanks in advance
Hi Chris, what is the weight and how well does it on the dB country? Any comparison with the C4 etc would help. Thanks,
It's going to be noisier than the C4pro. Champion Helmets channel have a good video on the dB specs
My biggest issue was wind noise, the fit of the helmet was not as good as my previous full face Shark helmets and even with plugs in there was a huge increase in wind noise while riding. Can you do a review of the lid covering the more practical factors?
The new ES is not available in North America. Defiantly the best looking flip back helmet. Most likely the DOT certification vs European certification
"Need to buy a car", Hi-Larious! 😂
Buying a car is not the best advice to give to bikers if the visor fogs up Chris!!! Ive no need for a car. However a well fitted pinlock works. Perfectly. It just works!! Buy a visor with pinlock in the box. You wont have to buy a metal box : )
My oft repeated quip about buying a car instead of a bike if convenience and comfort are to the fore is obviously a little tongue in cheek, but when discussing subjects like this it speaks of a certain unavoidable truth. Motorcycling can be extreme. We are often very exposed to the elements. It is dangerous and often tests the spirit. If you’re not prepared to occasionally get very hot, very wet, very cold, or to suffer all manner of inconveniences, then perhaps motorcycling is not for you. I give talks almost every week to advanced riding groups, and when talking about waterproof garments I say the same thing: “if you never want to get wet, buy a car”! In terms of a Pinlock, I’m afraid that your own experiences may not apply to all motorcyclists. If a helmet is very quiet, or very well sealed around the neck and chin so as to reduce noise, the visor will have an increased propensity to mist up. There are helmets where a Pinlock will simply not be up to the job. With a Pinlock 120, you may have a fighting chance but Shark, for example, only offers a Pinlock 70 for some models, and there’s no option to upgrade. There are, therefore, helmets out there where a Pinlock will not clear the visor. I agree that a genuine Pinlock 120 is as good as it gets, but occasionally even this will not always keep a visor free of condensation.
What has happened the EvoJet ? Saw it at NEC 2019 was due to launch Feb 2020 ?
Dear Paul. Our view is that the helmet just doesn't work. When you lift the visor you've got an open face. But when you close the visor there is no venting whatsoever. It is going to most up and just won't work. It's a great looking helmet. It was a nice idea, but I just don't think Shark thought it through. These are just our views, however, I am sure the helmet will hit the market later this year. ML
@@Motolegends Thats a fair point funny Ive not seen any for sale
Can your shop find me a Paris Blue Schuberth M1 Pro Helmet in size XL and M I can find one anywhere all they do is a size S. Can you help
Hi Chris is it made in France or is it Chinese? Cheers
Made in France and has a 2 year warranty.
Which com-system fits the shown ES? I just bought this one
We would recommend the Interphone UCOM because of the size slightly smaller. It is a bit of a struggle to fit and make sure it won't touch the chin guard.
Hahaha ‘buy a car’ 😁 cheeky but true - particularly where the only reason for pinlock is marketing because you’ve solved the problem another way
Can the new visor vx150 be retrofitted to an Evo One?
Yes is the answer just got one from motolegends and it fits purfectly. I have the evo one and the evo two. The pinlock in both didn't fit right was raised at the edges. I got a new visor and pinlock under warrenty and it's a purfect fit. The blank visor with no pinlock looks similar but has no pinlock holes. Only time will tell. Great helmet for touring I have around 12000miles on the evo one two in all weather's. Best helmet for heat.
Which one is newer LS2 FF900 or this new shark ?
I just brought this shark rode 1200 miles found it noisier than the roof boxer
Can I get the new vizor only?
Yes, you can. www.motolegends.com/helmets/shark-visor-for-evo-es-as-af-evo-es-helmets.html
@@Motolegends it's compatible with evo 2?
buy a car lol, all my lids have pinlock and never fog up, i dont need to buy a car. i think shark still need to sort out that visor if is its misting up. pinlock is the standard across the board. no thanks
Can someone please explain where the 'Evoline Series 3' fits in here.
He talks of the '1' the '1-2' then the 'ES'. ... but no mention of the series 3. Did the 3 do away with the 'troublesome pinlock' as in the ES?
This is the one I'm considering as it's available at a pretty good price here in AUS at the mo ($350)
Can someone please explain the model series progressions cheers. (I find it a oui oui bit French and f#kd up.)
The Series 3 is the third incarnation of the Evoline which came before Shark moved over to the Evo 1. It does not have the automatically lifting visor. So older than both the Evo 1 and the 1-2. Not surprised it is at a good price!
@@Motolegends Awesome Mr Motolegends.
Thank you muchly for both the info to clarify the models... and the very prompt response.
Now all I have to weigh up is whether the price is good enough for an 'inferior' superseded helmet.
Choosing between this and a 'Bell Broozer' for around the same $$$.
Thanks again and all the best to you, cheers - Mark
Can it be possible for you to review some Indian helmet brands .......✌️😬
sunny verghese Not unless they’re for sale in the UK.
Buy a car .. Classic answer love it... 😂
I can buy a new Honda motorcycle for 3 to 4 thousand pounds can't get a new car for that
go and buy a car... awesome, mate haha
Just about the order one then I realised they’re French. Think I’ll wait and see how they behave... shame as it looks nice in the Matt grey.
*Works great. I especially like the grinding / cutting mode and the off mode⛑️ **allabout.wiki/Finish** Be sure to turn it back to welding mode before striking an arc, or else - flash burn. . .The only down side is the head band. Is is cheap, but I understand standard head bands will fit, so I will probably upgrade the head band.I had an old self darkening hood that worked, but I thought I was going blind because I could not see the puddle.*
