Glad to see you react to some of Ren's earliest work. "Trick The Fox" consisted of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren's onset of health issues. They are very talented.

Why do we, as Ren fans, feel so proud of him? Like we are all his parents or something? It's kind of special and I'm here for it.
It's weird. And as a dad and dude it an oddly maternal proud somehow if that makes sense.
It's because we've gone through his experiences and really got to know him as a person that we feel connected like family to him. We want to see him succeed because he's let us in, he's let us truly see him and his abilities and it gives us a feeling of parental pride. I know I am proud of him and as a mother, I know with certainty that I would be proud to be his mother.

This stuff was exactly what got him signed to Sony. This is healthy Ren before he came across that damn tick.
He could of been bite any time can take decades to get symptoms but he was healthier here I agree
He probably had Lyme disease at this time but it really had not kicked . My grandma had Lyme disease and they gave her medicine and it went away. They caught it early.
I think the timeline is that he became ill in 2010, the same year as landing the Sony contract. It got progressively worse and by 2013 he disbanded Trick the Fox. Between 2013 and 2016 he was seriously ill and believed that he was going to die in his twenties. As I understand it, he pulled together the Freckled Angels album in 2015 in order to have released an album during his lifetime - it was released in 2016, the same year as he was finally diagnosed with Lyme Disease. He had his first stem cell treatments in 2016 and felt much better than in the previous years. He was able to get out of his house and busk again, which was when he met Sam Tompkins (Incorrect, he first met Sam in 2013 - but in 2016 he was able to meet up/perform with him again) . In 2017, The Big Push was formed. (If any of the above is wrong I am sure other Renegades will provide corrections ... ). I suspect that this track was recorded around 2010/11
Breaks my heart to see what he has went through, and fills me with joy to see where he is now!!! You can see why he was signed. That voice is simply incredible.
@@tribute1965 Weirdly I think the artist that we have today is probably more interesting/unpredictable/edgy, and with songs of real substance, than the artist that we would have seen if he had achieved mainstream success from his Sony album. The music industry is so risk-averse, and would have wanted to keep him to a fairly tight lane. That would have been no good for an artist as creative and unconventional as Ren. And we would not have had the artist that we love today.
Could anyone other than Ren do a mashup that seamlessly goes from Iggy Pop to James Brown to Britney Spears to Queen?

While you are at the Fox hole... there's a very short video titled " A Poem By Ren" addressing the meaning in/of life. It is released in 2012, with Ren saying he wrote it a year before. He did record it again under the title Meaning as just audio, for Freckled Angels album, but I like the first one better. If you're interested at baby Ren's deeper thoughts, perhaps you could squeeze this one in with any of his other songs, sometimes?

finally you see... Ren isn't only an enormous all-round talent.. he's working hard on it for decades... sometimes I think it's kind of luck he didn't start a successful career tooooi early so he had the time to develop.. though the reason is bitter.. jooe his actual treatments help ❣️
Ren's in it for 20yrs now: "I started my career by producing beats in my bedroom at 13 years old, making CDs and walking around with a portable CD player trying to convince people to buy them. I got older and started performing out on the streets to anyone who would listen. It was never something just handed to me on a plate, I had to work my ass off to make a dent."

Love how you react. You’re becoming a Ren aficionado, at this rate you’ll be writing his biography. It’s dope how Ren started off learning his craft. He knows his music, learns the various genres and puts in the work. That’s why he’s a class act! He’s sayin’ even in those days “I know my music history and I’ll show you where that can go too in the future”.
I think Ren was really cool here. Its got a The Kooks/Ed Sheeran vibe to it. I think you can hear Ren through that vibe but I think Ren was still trying to find his voice so to speak at that time. At least half of the songs during that period were on his freckled angles album and they were signed by Sony back then. Due to his ill health he had to disband Trick the Fox and he finished Freckled Angels with new songs whilst very much ill in his bedroom. I find it interesting that Ed Sheeran Blew up with his debut album around a year after Trick the Fox got signed. Both Ed Sheeran and Ren started out Busking and sharing their music online. Its quite possible Ren heard Ed's early music online before he got famous hence why I hear a bit of influence there or maybe its the other way around who knows?
I love baby Ren with the Peter Pan vibe. Still one of my favorites. The mashup is fun. A handful of the songs from that time period are on the Freckled Angels album including the title song, as well as love music pt1, Run Away, Street lights and Living room poetry.

Kind of funny you mentioned looking back at high school and realizing they were some of the best days - even if it didn't seem like it at the time.
When my HS reunion committee called about the 10 year reunion, I actually told them I'd only recently stopped having nightmares about HS, so I didn't think going to the reunion was a good idea. I think it's kind of a funny story.

Patience is great one to react to. When he was around the same age. He has dark hair and is sitting on a couch or bed.

I just cant stop and every day I discover something new about him; He is the gift that keeps on giving.

He must be about 20 here, I believe he was signed when he was 21/22 then became sick. I think he then became housebound for like 6/7 years undiagnosed.
He was picked up by a talent scout around 16 even. Bitten by the tick around 17, signed with Sony around that time. Got sicker while working with Sony and performing. Until he was bedridden. After that Sony kept him on hoping he would get better, but alas he did not. When the contract ran out both decided to not renew. So baby Ren for real here! So cute!
This era of Ren looks a little like Justin bieber...early 2000s..soft tone vocal, radio music...not what I'm used to with Ren, but I like it..he really does cover alot of genres..

Ren is like a musical octopus, with talents stretching out in all directions. There's probably a home video of Ren at five years old playing a plastic toy guitar and spitting a rap/reggae version of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star somewhere on the internet.
