The doctor could also face discipline from the medical board for failing to screen an injury properly and for allowing an injured player to keep playing without rendering proper medical attention. It's borderline malpractice.
If I remember the Prichard Colon case correctly (maybe I don't), I think he could face malpractice and negligence charges and face 50 million dollars of damages.
But in case of doubts, let's default to the lesser charge for now and send some research for malpractice?

Malpractice is a serious charge; however, as someone who works in healthcare and who deals with car accidents (not the same, but similar and within the scope of my practice's patient population) and ER visits a LOT, I will say that I am not discharging that patient without a full neurological work up.
The team doctor was NOT required to do that work up, but not removing the player and sending him for such an evaluation is negligent to say the least and malpractice at the worst.
The not even half-assed concussion check was funny, the team grabbing him and putting him in front of the net had me in tears. I actually think the comedy is made funnier by the serious interjections about law. It spaces out the ridiculousness.

Part of me feels like the opposing team were purposefully targeting the kids face. The idea that the one guy followed through with the spike as the team hoisted up Sterling for the block, seems suspect. Honestly, it seems like everyone was in on hurting Sterling. The stretcher thing said "Sterling" for God sakes.

I hope that in a few thousand years, when volleyball (and other sports Scott plays) is either forgotten or changed so far that it's not remotely similar, that the skit is the only remaining piece of history. I hope future generations know the man, the legend of Scott Sterling...'s face.

wouldn't the other team also be liable ? I think you could reasonably argue that they hit him on purpose (they are professional players and the ball hit him every time) but it would be hard to prove at which point it was an accident and at which point it was intended
if he laying on the floor not moving, first could be an accident but after that no even the holding him up they could have chose to not hit the ball since there was enough time to see the situation.
but I also think your right, the other team should have refused to play if they believed he was injured and could be injured more during the game.

If you are talking strictly about common law torts, you are correct. However, depending on the jurisdiction, assault has been codified in statutes (particularly in the criminal context) as the actual harmful or offensive physical contact. So, as all good attorneys say, it depends.

There is a famous criminal case in Canada where a hockey player hit another with a high stick and got charged with aggravated assault for the serious concussion he caused. R v McSorely
If you find the video, the high stick hit is nasty. Basically used the hockey stick as a sword.
You should watch some group B rally footage, would love to see a lawyers perspective on them. If they were in America what would the case against them have looked like?
