    Thank you! My 83 year old father is a 4th generation furniture maker/upholsterer. He lives in another state and was trying to explain this to me so I could recover an antique settee I got. I wish I had more time to spend with him to learn all the tricks of the trade. I sent your video to him and he said excellent work! His generation wouldn't allow that old fabric to stay underneath though haha LOL.

      Awe, that’s so great you have him to call upon! I wish I’d have spent more time learning my moms tricks of the trade. And my upholstery mentor would’ve scolded me for keeping old fabric!

    I've been waiting for the second part. We found the same settee on FB market on March and I started it this summer but I've been stuck. We had to take all the fabric out all the way to the bone so now I don't know what to do. This is my first reupholster piece. I hope it works out.

    I really enjoy your videos. Thank you. In your opinion, what is easier a slipcover or upholstery? (For a standard couch). Robin

    • @MimzyandCompany
      @MimzyandCompany  Před rokem

      that's a tough questions. It depends upon your sewing skills. If you're a pretty good seamstress then slipcovers might be easier because the only tools required are a sewing machine and lots of pins. upholstery requires a little more tools...a compressor stapler, tear off tolls etc.. But upholstery requires a lot less sewing. And it depends upon the style of your furniture. I should make a video with all the things to consider.

    Mimzy - can you show how you rig your setee so that it sits high ... Im trying to get my hubby to help me facilitate this for a Victorian piece w 8 legs ...

    • @MimzyandCompany
      @MimzyandCompany  Před rokem

      So I originally thought I would make the legs taller(with Dowels and bonds) but then I decided to just use a thicker cushion(less work). Then I tried the settee at my table and ultimately didn't like the look. So I gave it away. However, I'm working on a chair with a broken leg that'll I'll use the same method...so stay tuned.

    Looks more like recovering than reupholstering a piece that has already been recovered, the original Regency Stripe fabric is still on the sofa. What about stripping out and checking/replacing springs and webbing where, and if, needed.

    • @MimzyandCompany
      @MimzyandCompany  Před 11 měsíci +1

      You make a good point, but I looked at the 8 way tied springs from the bottom and could see everything was in good condition. And this was a NOT a paid job, but for myself, so I didn't really want go through the trouble. My upholstery mentor would never allow this...
