Ah, yes, Catalyst being true to its name and allowing the player to access one very fundamental bug in the stat update system.
Riot's way of handling unit stats is rather robust. Every 0.25 seconds, the game re-calculates all your character stats. This avoids the possibility of some effect increasing or decreasing a stat but failing to undo the change again when the effect is removed.
However, some effects do want the immediate change being possible, for example Lulu R and Volibear R want your health increase to happen **instantly** on cast. For those, the game can forcefully reevaluate your character's stats. It's with this forceful stat update that a deeply buried bug lies, which happens when something triggers the forced stat update a lot of times on a single tick of the game loop. The bug causes stat modifiers to stack up many times. That includes all stats, AD, Movespeed, even _character size mod_ and Tenacity; Notice the Olaf's stats in the clips above increasing by a LOT very briefly!
I won't go into the detail of how it's done here, suffice to say it involves another bug in the first place. I wonder if Riot will finally clean up the engine-level one (the one described above), though.
I love how this company straight-up refuses to rebuild their core engine system, makes you reconsider whether you're that bad if you get rejected from the company of your dreams
@@AlFasGD Several systems on engine level have been overhauled already, damage tags for example. That said, there's a couple of "simple" engine level bugs that they either haven't properly identified, not properly acessed/understood or simply refuse to fix in favor of workarounds and bandaids which are really annoying to me.
@@AlFasGD would rebuilding the core engine system fix anything? I don't know about programing so I need to ask about it

@@soedragons3582 rebuilding it would greatly help with commonly encountered bugs and especially timings, stat bugs and alike. It takes time, that's the one thing you have to have in mind. But eventually you'll be more capable of delivering new mechanics that play together nicely, without trying your hardest to hackily bodge Renata Glasc's R into the game.

There is new bug. If you proc manaflow band while having catalyst, you lose tons of mana. I tried now on practice tool and after using q my mana dropped from 800 to 200
How to do it? I need to abuse it and hit challenger 💪

Funny how many bugs/exploits we've had recently related to mana systems, but this is the king of them all so far
God I hope this doesn't mean that Riot will give up entirely and just remove Mana. They kind of already are pushing it away from being a system you should actually keep track of, but removing it would be insane.
@@drvurruct2274 no way, they could never do that. They would have to remove or change like a quarter of all the items, some champs would need a complete rework like kassadin, while almost all the champs that use mana would need some changes as well. All the mana runes gone. Early game would probably be played somewhat differently and mages would never be the same. Irelia would have infinite sustain, lol. Its way too big a change to just drop that like, yeah, in the new season there is like no more mana, heh..

I remember that something like this happened to me in the past, but I think it was triumph + level up. I've got a kill with Pyke and did lvl up right after getting the kill, one moment later I went from zero hp to full hp
Lore-accurate Olaf where he can just drop a mountain on someone, the mountain being a metaphor for the axe.
It still works. Hard to abuse the bug though as you
1) need catalyst for it to work (1300 gold for no damage outside the bug)
2) only have 10 manaflow procs a game where it COULD work, so no Q-ing or E-ing enemies before catalyst for more chances
3) very very hard to time (maybe not with scripts)
I would consider trying the bug in real games trolling more than anything. Try it in practice tool though, that’s fun. I got a screenshot with 136k dps output on a target dummy!
Requirements: manaflow, catalyst
How to: level up at least to 6 preferably, as ulting makes the stat increase bigger. Ult, proc manaflow with Q and E right after for big damage. You can see the stat increase for a split second on the player stats, you have to time your E and the stat boost. It is possible to Q and E the same target and one-shot but it’s easier to throw the Q on a target farther away and E a different one (can also be objectives like in the vid). It should be noted that it can be very very difficult to time, especially when Q-E-ing the same target and proccing manaflow is limited to 10 times per game. Try one-hitting baron with crit olaf!

If I try to replicate this, instead of the big damage, it just makes a single Q use up the entire mana bar.
i just tried in practice tool and it is kinda hard to time or i just dont exactly understand how to replicate it, nonetheless did work just like in the vid lol. 1 shot a drake
I checked details on how to do the bug. It's been patched or just refuses to work for me. It requires max conqueror stacks, and manaflow band ready to proc.
@@SleepyStreak does it? from what i tested it just required conq and manaflow to proc. Also stopped working after manaflow was max stacked
@@SleepyStreak I just got it to work in practice tool, you have to have conquerors and manaflow band. Proc with Q and you can watch your damage tick up to high numbers for just a split second. No max conq stacks needed.

I watch a lot interactions with this bug in hextech lab. Most funny when Neeko with good timing using passiv and transform into big Olaf but permanent
This is the most astonishing bug I've seen in my history playing the game, over 10 years, and I cannot fathom what might be causing this interaction. Olaf Q doesn't scale with mana, and what is going on with his model size???

Honestly, nothing will ever beat the Short Circuit exploit from TF2. When the weapon was changed, you could use it to artificially lag enemies by firing it in their general direction

for details, see the new pinned comment. TLDR version is that the game while recalculating stats go for a loop due to another bug and multiplies your stats for the next 0.25s , ie. until next stat recalculation.

So by proccing manaflow band at the same time as a stat buff (olaf R) it jumbles the stats on projectile abilities to a new rate?
No its a general stat increase that happens on a manaflow proc when olaf has catalyst. Activating his ult increases that stat increase but it’s not necessary for dealing giga-damage. It only lasts for a split second so it’s hard to time and you only have 10 manaflow procs per game for the bug, every time you proc it without catalyst it’s a wasted proc. Multiple reasons why it’s not really an easy thing to abuse. I would consider it trolling
item aeons and manaflow , the frame you get the manaflow you get 1500 AD , if you have full stack conqueror it's 5000

@@Flechashe it has nothing to do with approach velocity it happens when you have catalyst with stacked manaflow band and getting 10 or 12 stacks of conqueror once you attack on the 10th or 12th stack of conqueror it gives you a massive amount of stats for a fraction of a second

For the records, also Vladimir Q has not been fixed yet. (while the last patch said the contrary).
One of the few bugs I can't seem to figure out at all.
What has mana flow got to do with his Q together with conqueror and that item doesn't even give you damage. On top of that the scale bug when he gets the damage change.
one possibility can be:
- the functions have access to more memory than they should, and the next programmer (thinking that their friend did a good job) assumes that he can simplify his code without extra checks, while he is actually accessing the wrong memory adresses in some cases, and this is just a human mistake but it's not easy to spot
it has to do with the checks to the stats, when a you gain stats like manaflow band, just more spaghetti (multiple stat checks in a small amount of time making all stats stack for a brief second)

yes since it breaks the speghetti code since olaf don't use mana. However it does not work on any other manaless champs so idk.

My team just absolutely dumpstered someone trying this bug in a normal.
It's an scary but if you can't juke it but it's limiting the player using the bug in skill usage that's why take advantage of that first so you can destroy the bug user like I done it multiple time now just be alert of the Q and you'll be fine.
