- A wet, rainy day in Fairfax, Virginia outside DC was probably a poor time and place to drive our first 1000 horsepower car, but it was an incredible experience nonetheless.
The car's owner, Rene, built his 2006 Evo 9 MR to burn tires and break hearts, and Moore Automotive (who were gracious enough to let us film in their shop) tuned the car to it's current absurd output.
Everything about this car was done meticulously, and it shows.

Ammm, well it means you don't need a 3, 4, 5 or 6 liter engine to have big power. This is a 2L engine. The 4G63T is one of the best engines ever for tunability
Yes and no. Because a V8 would only need 1/2 the amount of boost to make the same power reason being the engine has 2x the cylinders. Now if u push the SAME amount of boost through a bigger engine you'll always be making more power. Anyway it's all up to personal preference how you wanna make that 1000hp. Bigger engine less boost or smaller engine more boost

No they exaggerated that a bit. It was much more than tuning, trust me
no! the owner they said that he wanted 700hp,so they chose the set up to produce that 700hp safe! they dont even port the head, that particular set up can produce 700hp safe but with hight boost and timing advance can also produce 1000hp(that is not safe for daily use and all day abuse for sure),that they trying to say!

+Gears and Gasoline first of all thanks for the crazy fast response, I was still watching the video when u responded! lol, so for about 30k + a shell this could be mine, now that's interesting. my 270hp Mazda seems like a turd compared, especially when you consider I'm gonna pay 21k for it. smh wish I looked into this before buying
+MyBallsUrJaws bored at work and phone notifications will do that. And as crazy as 1000hp is, it's not an all the time thing. My Evo is making about as much hp as your Mazda, and I'm completely content with it. Every once in a while I wish I had enough power to blow the doors off a veyron, but there are so many tradeoffs it's hardly ever worth it. A car like this is something you have as a bonus. Keep your Mazda, I loved mine. -Asian Ben

My Evo X used to do that- throw the front end sideways in the dry at virtually any speed, but the traction control system would sort it out if you didn't panic first... which everyone (including me) who drove it did. And that was only about 400kw at the wheels.

The owner taped up the grill to cover the turbo inlet. It was a crappy day, raining on and off, and there was still salt on the road from recent snow, so we didn't want that getting all up in his $2k turbo.

How come they covered the turbo with tape when they were driving it on the road but then it wasnt in the garage
On the road you have rocks and shit flying all over the place you have to cover the turbo so stuff doesnt go into it and destroy it

What did they do about the clutch feel to make it more street-able?
+Andrew Springer It's a triple-disk clutch from Exedy. It allows for a more streetable clutch action while still being able to hold huge amounts of torque. The downside is that it will often lock-out at high-speed/RPM. If you look closely you can see it happen in the video on one pull. +Gears and Gasoline clutch lock-out is actually a problem with single disc clutches. If he is still experiencing lock-out with the triple, a simple adjustment of the clutch pedal will help fix that!
