In this episode we talk about the women who supported Elizabeth when she was young, and filled the role of surrogate mother to her, specifically Blanche Parry and Kat Ashley. One rocked her, and the other supported her as her governess. Let's dive into Elizabeth's maternal figures.
I found this one especially interesting. I’ve never looked up Blanche Parry or Kat Ashley and now I have two more women to learn about. Thank you 🙂
I knew about Kat Ashley but not Blanche.
The Bacton Altar Cloth is such a miracle. What happened to her other dresses? There had to be thousands.
They were dismantled and repurposed.
They did that with jewellery as well.
Love these stories. Really awesome women who were so badly needed by Elizabeth. Thank you.
Thanks so much for this video. Anne would have been so grateful to have had these amazing women guide her daughter.
Thank you so much heather. We sometimes forget that these are normal people with feelings of hopes and desires so much like our own - well, perhaps a tad higher than our hopes. But it was dangerous as well. So wonderful that Elizabeth had loving folk around her. I’ve heard a lot about Kat Ashley but not that much about Blanche. Have you ever seen that altar piece of Elizabeth’s? Like everything so old one just wishes to touch it, to hold it perhaps but I do understand why it’s so precious and must not be touched. I watched a program on its restoration ( right word) - oh, it was so interesting. 🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺
This is so helpful. Hoping to portray Blanche Parry in a historical enactment and education group. Thank you! Blanche was truly dedicated to Elizabeth, and was a powerful woman in her own right.
My favourite Tudor is Mary.
