  • The Holland Land Office Museum welcomed as the latest presenter in its Guest Speaker Series, Kevin Pawlak. Kevin is a battlefield historian and guide in Prince William County, Virginia, but went to school in Batavia. Western New York at Bull Run: Citizens of western New York were some of the first to answer President Lincoln's call for troops at the start of the Civil War. As such, some of them participated in the first major battle of the Civil War at Manassas/Bull Run on July 21, 1861. One of them, Charles Rand, performed one of the first battlefield efforts that resulted in a Medal of Honor. Western New Yorkers were also active in the Battle of Second Bull Run fought on the same ground thirteen months later. Hear the stories of some of these soldiers from the homefront to the battlefield.
