  • In this video, I show you how most people run their Benson Vincent amp, then I show you how I run it. You'll see how running the amp hard brings out the best in it. This is an AWESOME amp and even as a more aggressive, higher-gain player, this amp has quickly become a "do not sell" amp. NO PEDALS were used in the making of this video. All audio is untouched and unprocessed. Comparisons abound!

    Love it. I always felt the proper spot on a amp was to open up that power section and find a way to deal with the volume and to use touch and the guitar tone/volume knobs to get the cleans/drive and shades of breakup is how you get the full expression of what a tube circuit can do. Plus it opens up that feeling of being connected to the speaker and fosters a way deeper connection to the guitar. It's downright addictive and inspiring for sure.

    Sweet video man. Excited to get my Benson Vincent in. I joined the list for Benson more than 2 years ago at this point and got my order in with them earlier this month for the Vincent and the 2x12 pair they have.
    I’ve been actually looking into attenuators and have been eyeing the Fryette PowerStation.

      Congratulations! I am jealous of the 2x12. I’d love to find one for sale so I can have the speaker pairing. That said, this amp sounds awesome with H75 Creambacks.

    Mike welcome back ! Lol amazing demo of yet another amp to GAS for -
    My friend today I have some burning questions for you about 2x12 cab
    *speaker recommendations *
    ^
    * I know ALOT of youtubers are usually IR guys - theyre easy, convenient and sound great plus hassle free compared to the setup required for a "real" cab. Lets face it most of us myself included for sure, just cant grab the sound of a 4x12 cab in a regular room or basement setup ( my landlord one townhouse unit / 1 wall over would kill me! lol ) so my oversized 2x12 built here in canada is ALL I have to work with and with any of my amps : ceriatone yeti50, wizard, morris 50 and the friedman smallbox i had mever quite sounded amazing through it ..
    ^
    None of these amps are "bad" and my 2x12 cab is built with all the must haves i.e dovetail voidless consteuction and solid birchwood- no jankety flimsy construction techniques or cheap mdf/ particle board mass produced cab here so It cant be the cabs design i feel it my problem just HAS to he the speaker's.
    ^
    ~ DISCLAIMER ~ heres what i already tried in the cab for all things hard rock like warren demartini, lynch, early VH, and steve stevens tones none of these quite worked some sounded flat out terrible and others just ok"

    ~ DISCLAIMER ~ #1
    :
    ***** Speakers I've already tried *******
    :
    * G12 65Heritage x2 , 2 UK
    * G12m 20 greenies x2 ,
    * G12H30s x2 ( one of the worst )
    * 1 G12m20greeny + 1 v30 sounded horrendous and that shocked me aince dave friedman uses that pairing stock in his robust looking 2x12 cabs
    * And the old V30 UK x2 to no avail, something always sounded wrong or an odd mix / clash of frequencies...
    :
    * currently there's only 2 that sounded alright and theyre inside now; that is -
    * eminence wizards x2
    ~ these are like 2 G12 H30 clones but at 75w each, they sound just OK so while I can live with it, I'm trying to find something else..
    ^
    * Do you or have you ever used ANY 2x12 cabs/ 2 speaker combinations that rocked in your 2x12 cab in general that you could recommend me ?
    * Whats in your suhr 2x12 creamback ms or h 75s? Those work for you in a hard rock setting or not so much ?
    * Ever try mixing the G12 H30 with a V30 ?
    * Creamback m65 + Cream H75?
    * Creamback h or m65 + V30 ?
    * Or using scumbacks ? - this option costs a killing here in canada so im reluctant to shell out the $$$$$ for that last one
    ^
    * These 5 examples are ones I've heard pop up over the years when guys are trying to get the most out of their 2x12 cab etc etc.
    ^
    ~ DISCLAIMER #2 ~
    * Yes I know a 2x12 will never be a 4x12 - even with the best vintage greenbacks or black backs, there's just that bigger bolder iconic sound through a 4x12 that a 2x12 just won't do, yes , that's true and it's very obvious why guys use 4x12s in their demos sponsored or not they flat out sound amazing and highlight the amp in question but its not an option for the forseable future for me in my townhouse setup a 4x12 would just be overkill/ my fiancé already rolls her eyes at my 2x12 whenever I wheel it out
    🙄😅
    ^
    ** Anyways, I'm all ears whenever you get the chance to read this novel one guitar player to another; It would just about make my day since your video demos always blow me away from the second I heard your first few friedman demos a couple years ago.
    ^
    ** if anyone else here seeing this comment can chime in on either there experience with their favourite amp through a 2x12 cab and their speakers of choice I'd really appreciate it as well, the more the merrier, maybe others have been through the same situation with their 2x12 cabs/ swapping 2 speakers same or mixing different ones in a 2x12 etc lmk. ***

    Cheers from niagara canada and all the best

      Hey Adam,
      Great question. I have owned several 2x12s over the years.
      The oversized ("OS") Suhr one you see here is one of two that has managed to stick around. It has two Celestion H75 Creambacks in it. I really like these speakers in a 2x12 and the Suhr cab is built like a tank. The only downside is that it doesn't have any casters and it's very heavy.
      The other 2x12 that's managed to stick around is my Carstens Amplification 2x12. It's pretty much the opposite of the one above. It's loaded with a Weber Ceramic Blue Dog 100w and a Celestion Alnico Cream 90w. It's a very warm sounding cabinet with a wonderful, unique, room-filling sounds. It's also very lightweight and has an option for an open back.
      Ironically, I just ordered a Zilla Fatboy 2x12 cabinet the other day. It's loaded with a Celestion V30 and a Celestion Creamback H75. I figured it would be a fun cab to try out since those are my two favorite speakers. We'll see how it sounds.
      I'm also interested in getting a front-loaded Diezel 2x12 w/ V30s. I think a front-loaded cab is a really nice option to have around, as it will brighten and lean out the bass in most amps.
      As far as other speakers you might try, I would consider the Mesa Boogie version of the V30 (they're a bit darker than other V30s, which will give a fuller sound), the Marshall/Celestion G12C "Greenback" that was available in the Vintage Modern cabinets which is a slightly leaner in the mids with accentuated highs and bass, or the G12T-75 but make sure you get old ones from the 90's or 00's that were made in the UK. G12T-75's get a bad rap because they're a scooped speaker with a darker top end but they work well in a 2x12 for this reason (2x12s tend to have more mids and brightness than an equal 4x12).
      I hope that helps! Good luck and let me know how it goes!
