If you use it on him, ocelot will tell you it's not enough water to put him out

+DeadlyDre Actually, I figured it's only purpose was using it on the Man on Fire and it turns out that doesn't even work. I learned something about this weapon through this video, but sure, call it click-bait I guess.
It does work on the Man on Fire, it just takes 60-80 shots for a stun.

From a stealth standpoint, the water gun is essential loadout. It can take out electronics and comms without making noise/raising an alarm, seeing as it's the only weapon that can do this it's actually really, really good. You can make up for your lack of tranq gun with a suppressed sniper (or just not rely on tranq).
+Nathen Estrada yes. Comms with the blue lights which will actually disable all the antennas.
***** Sorry I should have been more clear, it doesn't affect cameras but it actually does affect ALL comms including antennas. For the radio setup you can just shoot anywhere (comms centre), but with the rooftop comm dishes you need to hit the box where the vent is.
It also disables generators permanently and puts out barrel fires to create shadows for sneaking, and works as a sound distraction wherever the water hits.
***** C.Box is totally unneeded once you figure out stealth mode/prone makes you practically invisible in the right conditions. That's why coming in and out of C.box stops you from getting a No Traces "super stealth" bonus.
+Damien John If you never get caught then you don't really need to worry about the comms. There's just so many situations that I'd rather have tranq pistol.
hairypancake Yeah it all depends on your playstyle. I just really like the idea of destroying a bases equipment without causing an alert mode, which isn't possible without the water pistol. ;)

Funny trick in reflex mode, toss an empty mag at the enemy's head and it KOs them instantly with a nice "Ding!" noise.

I really only bring water pistol on most of my missions. The quiet electronics disablement and bonfire dousing, keep guys awake for interrogation, infinite ammo, very fast fire rate, quiet, large 'magazine' capacity, low usage cost, and of course holdups... This is an exceptionally useful weapon especially for quick quiet players. And yes, it does work on the man on fire after a couple reloads.

The squirt gun also effects SKULLS units, interrupting them with a custom animation for about a second.
One of the cassette tapes mentions that parasite units live on the skin and when soaked with water become totally engrossed in drinking it in. The squirt gun gives them a mild case of that. If your support unit is high level you can also change the weather to rain on the SKULLS for a much better effect. Have to admit I haven't tried it on Quiet before I lost her.
unsurprisingly it also puts out fires like campfires and barrel fires, so it can kinda help with stealth.
And that's why i love japanese games - creativity.

This reminds me of the BANANA you get from Peace Walker and you can hold up enemies at gun point.

So many little details and mechanics, like the water gun, are what make the MGS series so great. Even reflex mode, I don't generally use it but flicking it on when you feel like going in guns blazing, it makes you feel like a badass.
Best game series of all time in my opinion.

If a tank spots you, for example or an enemy fires an RPG at you, equip and use the pill to manually enter reflex mode, shoot the shell and it'll put it out, as you watch it fall slowly to the ground without detonation.

Water pistol is used for bin fires. They make light, which is a disadvantage in terms of stealth. Getting rid of this light is very effective. So therefore the water pistol is very useful.

You can actually taken down the man on fire with the water pistol. It takes a while but it works!
You can also use it to put out burning barrels at night that allows for more darkness for sneaking. I've heard, haven't tried it yet
You can silently disable comms by shooting the equipment with water as opposed to the loud C4 option. You can also stun enemies when spotted with a magazine to their face.
if deficating in this game is actually useful - not surprised the water gun is too.

I use d horse to SHIT on the road and knock out 2 Soviets and 1 prisoner and Fultoned them all, of course the shit of death an ancient tactic use by the samurai XD

I'm surprised most people saw the water pistol useless and only for The Man On fire, when it has best stealth uses.
(Not to mention cheap deployment wise if you have no problem with just 1 water pistol.)
Hot tip: this ALSO puts out fires. The small fires that guards light to see by will be extinguished if shot by the water gun.
Can't you use it to put out fires in barrels so you can hide in the shadows?
You know guards will stay out of commission a lot longer if you tell them to lay down or hold them up while they are on the floor as opposed to knocking them out or tranquilizing them.

Infinite ammo, dirt cheap, can destroy comms equipment and electrical stations, can extinguish open flame lightsources, is silent, can temporarily stun enemies. The watergun is the super effective.
i took on metal gear salathraposoases( on extreme) with the water gun bad idea cause when it jumped at me the water pistol does nothing to psycho mantis and grande launchers take time to load

+Kinos141 you can still carry 2 "bigger guns", for example, since i got the legendary gunsmith, i havent used my riot smg, because i can use the riot assault rifle with silencer... so having the water gun with me, is more like another tool(by the way i didnt knew you could put fire out with it...

you can also put out fire with the water pistol :) All those barels or campfires are only possible to put off with the water gun :)

You can have more than 3 firearms on you if develop the pistol, compact shotgun or grenade launcher which can be mounted under a rifle.

+Alec Bonjolo I really don't like how they made it with BB just appearing in cutscenes. It'd be much better if they made him talk through the current soldier's iDroid, and the rest of the things were like in original cutscenes but with these soldiers in place of BB.
+ace0071000 It would be cool, but I suppose they never intended for the story missions to be played with anyone other than BB. I imagine it would be quite difficult to make the story work otherwise. Not that its impossible, it was probably just inefficient. Although, they could have just locked out story missions to anyone other than BB.

It can stun him, but water pistol is at his best when used against the skulls. They get too busy drinking water to attack you and it disolves their armor.
