Relationship Woes and Snow Day Blues: Unpacking Roseanne's 'Here's to Good Friends'

- In this episode, we see Crystal (played by Natalie West), one of Roseanne and Jackie's close friends, struggling with yet another failed relationship. Feeling defeated and hopeless, she turns to Roseanne and Jackie for support and advice. Meanwhile, Jackie (played by Laurie Metcalf) has a potential love interest in Booker (played by George Clooney), a co-worker at the Lobo Lounge. She soon discovers that Booker is actually seeing another woman, and decides not to let him get away with it.
Elsewhere in the episode, Darlene (played by Sara Gilbert), one of Roseanne's children, is dealing with her own struggles. With a book report due the next day, she is procrastinating and hoping for a snow day to give her more time to complete the assignment. As she waits for the snow to arrive, she reflects on her own attitudes towards school and education, and comes to a realization about the importance of taking responsibility for her own success.

Rosanne is a great mother. Her sense of humor is awesome! Dan is completely loyal to her. It’s basically your average family that I knew growing up.

@@rican93That’s how all the shows are engineered; the first couple seasons are entertaining then comes the 3rd and 4th season and they introduce some political narrative…… at first it’s a bit uncomfortable but then it’s covered up by a joke so we ignore it and inch by inch…… season by season…… repeat and desensitize to the cultural climate and thus, you have the trainswreck newage Rosanne show full of subconscious programming messages covered up with comedy; Dick Wolf does it with all his shows; it’s called Monarch programming…….
@@blessisrael6455 I think Fraiser actually got way better as the series went on, so did Cheers for that matter. And can we talk about Star Trek The Next Generation and Deep Space 9? Next Generation's first two seasons were laughably bad, even considered so back then...so much so that they had to literally soft-reboot the show for season 3 and it became a classic. And while Deep Space 9 started okay, it became a POWERHOUSE by season 7. Then there's the X-Files which I would argue the best episodes were MID series (esp season 4 and 5)

I was that kid listening to the radio crossing my fingers school would be canceled. This is like a time capsule from late 80s early 90s kiddos.

I wished I lived in an area where snow days could cancel school. Only time I got out of school for snow was when we were snowed in the mountains on vacation but my school wasn’t closed. It sorta happened in college. 6 inches of snow closed the entire town because snow rarely happens here

Me too!! I vividly remember watching the pilot episode in my room, while I was bleaching and and putting strategic holes in a pair of Levi’s, and laughing so hard! I loved this show from beginning to end. The ninth season had some questionable moments, but had some hidden gems as well. I also watched The Conners up till about season three. I’m thought the day to day writing was great but the overall continuity was dreadful. As an example, it took them FOUR SEASONS to tell us what happened to Mark Healey!!! WTF?and the whole thing about Jackie’s son Andrew and Dan and Roseanne’s son Jerry suddenly don’t ex sister?!? What crust! I tried so hard to like it, but without Roseanne it just really had a huge hole in it. And I stopped watching when Dan and Louise married. I just thought the love of his life just died and he’s going to remarry so soon? There were other things, like bringing back Molly Tilldon just to kill her off?? And poor Michael Fishman had only one line in each episode?? I just couldn’t get past the awful day to day writing.....

Ours was the same when Covid-19 happened, we were the last ones in our county to close down for Covid and when we had fires that made the air quality so bad that we were the last ones to close
It had to be world war 3 for Jim McEntire to close Knox county schools back in the day.

I once had a school superintendent who stated that if he could make it to his office in inclement weather, the district was open that day. I later learned he drove a 4x4 truck.
We had one just like that when I was in school. He never canceled school for anything. He drove a brand new Lincoln Navigator

From Buffalo and NOT an A.M. guy a snow day here made my fn day. Nothing but a sleep in and video games the rest of the day.
I was in Buffalo. Our parent/s would let us know if school was closed as we were still in bed as they were getting ready first and had the radio on.
Now they cancel school for the smallest of things, using up all the snow days.
I still have a memory of one day when I managed to get out of bed successfully for once (I was a hardcore insommniac) & as I just made it off the bed...Mom says "School's closed for snow." Me: [sleepy] OK." *collapses onto bed* :D Man, those were the days! I miss that.
Growing up in Illinois in the 60s/70s it took nothing short of a blizzard to close our schools, even then it was iffy.
As for that last part........... Working in a factory, I was the lady with the drug store in her bag. Aspirin, tylenol, cough drops, cold medicine, sinus medicine, allergy medicine, bandages of all sizes, gauze, alcohol wipes......you name it, I had it in bulk. 🤣😂

This was the episode where Crystal and Jackie drive over the bridge, the one where Crystal’s late husband died in, when he accidentally fell into one of the pylons. Everyone laughed and joked about it like it was funny, but I never understood why that was funny. Even before I lost my husband, I always thought it was not funny that Crystal lost her husband and still to this day I don’t understand why it’s funny.....

This show was so good in the early seasons before it became all about Roseanne constantly trying to top herself on being a bigger and bigger bitch and bully to everyone around her. Add in Darlene going from tomboy to depressed moody goth, all the campy gay jokes and Jackie just becoming… a sad joke of herself and it just got unbearable to watch.
