Hi friend and no worries about asking. I'm not really clear about what's going on with the Saturday thing. Honestly, I was kind of surprised when Dave started that Livestream on Thursdays and we hadn't even had a conversation about it. So I was not aware that was happening.
We haven't actually spoken because my dog, Mala hurt her back right after that and I was consumed with caring for her. Dave did reach out but I haven't gotten back to him yet.
I'm definitely going to be doing Livestreams on my channel just because I really enjoy chatting live with the Community. I think for now, I'm happy just doing my own thing on my channel so I can do it the way I want to do it. I hope that makes sense and I definitely wish Dave the best no matter what he decides to do.

Moonrise Kingdom is totally fantastic, and is my favorite Wes Anderson film. Every character is fleshed out, unique script, unusually good acting by the two kids, and more than complimented with great supporting roles by Bill Murray, Francis McDormand, Harvey Kietel, Ed Norton, Tilda Swinton,
Hi friend. I absolutely agree with your thoughts on Moonrise Kingdom. I think it's one of his best and typically one that people like. I know sometimes his films are a little too quirky for some folks but I've never heard complaints about MK. It's a blast.

Stephanie, awesome recommendations! All About My Mother is a great one from Almodovar. The Worst Person in the World and The Girl Can’t Help It are both excellent as well. I definitely plan to pick up the Akerman set in the sale. Fingers crossed 🤞 the sale comes soon 😀.
Hi James. Yes, definitely keeping my fingers crossed for the sale to happen sooner than later. I think it's coming up though, I can feel it. I'm old so I can feel things like changes in the weather and sales in my bad foot. 😂😂😂
The Ackerman set is well worth the pickup. I just started jumping into it. Very good.

Wow, what a great bunch of films. I always pay close attention to your recommendations, ever since I bought Shoah on your say so. I bought The Girl Can't Help It when criterion released it because I've loved that one since I saw it in the theatre as a child. We didn't have air conditioning so when it got really hot, my mom used to take me, my brother and my sister to Saturday matinees to cool off. I saw so many late 50's- early 60's movies. It was great. I love Wes Anderson, and Moonrise Kingdom is one of my favorites. Apropos of nothing; Have you seen criterion's set of Karel Zeman's films? He makes Quirky films that I really love.

I do have the Karel Zeman set and I enjoyed it very much. The films are definitely quirky but super fun.

Another great video! I'm feeling pretty good about myself for having several of these already, but I still added a few to my wishlist. I've learned I'm probably going to love anything you recommend. I sure hope it's a 50% off if they do have a flash sale. I noticed amazon is close to half off on a couple of these already so I may get a jump on things with some that are close. Hi Steve. 🙂 Yep, Amazon does a really good job with the price matching. I've found some great deals there over the years. I really hope the Criterion one is 50% because I want the Fellini set and I don't trust Amazon with that one.

Great picks as always. The Friends of Eddie Coyle is a great one. I love Robert Mitchum in any film noir. He has always been a favorite of mine.

Hi Stephanie! Another absolutely fantastic video! I was *really* left thinking, after seeing Secrets & Lies. It poses an almost unanswerable question: Does *your* right to know, trump someone else’s *right* to privacy? DOES she have a right to know? What a journey…Lone Star is a film that deserves rediscovery, The Worst Person in the World, reminds me *so much* of a girl whom I loved very much when I was younger. She had a *need* to self-destruct just as things really began to blossom for us. The pain and frustration were almost unbearable, but I simply could not walk away from her. My pain, was *nothing* compared to what she was dealing with, and even now, 35 years later, it still tears me up. Great film, great cast and filled with meaning that many people will (hopefully) never experience.

You're spot on about Secrets and Lies and I'd have to think that somewhere that had to be a question the filmmaker was hoping people would ask.
Lone Star is such a good movie and I'm really hoping more people pick it up during the sale and give it a chance. I found it very creative and interesting. I'm a big fan of non-linear story telling as long as it's done right and this one was on point.
I'm sorry you related so personally to The Worst Person In The World. It's a fantastic movie but nothing I'd ever wish on anyone in real life.

I did a deep dive on the Janus comtemporaries on my channel last year loved all six so far. Godland was a standout for me.

Some great recommendations here! Secrets and Lies is such an emotional experience. It breaks my heart whenever I watch it. I've never seen The Clouds of Sils Maria, but your description of the story sounds like a cross between Bergman's Persona and John Cassavetes' Opening Night, starring Gena Rowlands. Am I way off base?
Hi friend. I'm with you and I love Secrets and Lies. Definitely hits all the emotions.
As far as Clouds Of Sils Maria; I think it's far less abstract than Persona. It's actually pretty straight forward with the exception of some of the dialogue scenes when you're trying to decide if it's the play rehearsal or just a chat. I'd say it's more in line with Opening Night. It's an excellent film that I think you'll enjoy if you decide to check it out. Great performances.

Hi Stephanie! As always, I am taking notes of your recommendations. Thank you for talking about Exotica. I remember working at Blockbuster and renting that Indie film back in the 90’s. It was a good watch, but it has been so long, I would like to revisit. Mia Kirshner also played Jennie in The L Word, and she is also from Toronto. Thanks for all the great titles, and for including the Janus films. I would like to watch EO, but I think the ending is too sad from what I read. P.S. I watched the original Old Boy, and I totally understand what you were alluding to when we last discussed this movie. You didn’t give away anything, so the ending really packed a punch! I will check out the remake with Josh Brolin next.

EO can definitely go into the sad category but I guess I was in the mood for it at the time. Animal movies always pull at my heart strings. There's one called Water For Elephants and it's about a traveling circus. The animals are kind of a side story but they blend in with the human issues. It's a good one if you haven't seen it. Not a Criterion but really good.
I'm glad you were able to check out Oldboy. I love that one but yes, the ending is wild for sure. I'm not big on that remake probably because I'm such a fan of the original. Maybe I'll have to give it another chance.

Stephanie, I know this has nothing to do with the video, but here's some movies I saw on sale I thought you'll be interested in.
"13 Assassins" and "Blade Of The Immortal" by Takashi Miike are on Hamilton Books for $5 each. The last 30 minutes of 13 Assassins is one of the best action sequences ever filmed.
"Ghost Story" (1981) I don't recall this great all-star cast horror movie being in your collection. It's currently on sale for $10 on A (can't print rest of word because of auto-deletion).

I'm super excited about the announced titles. I've already pre-ordered Anatomy Of A Fall (one of my favorites of 2023) Girlfight and Peeping Tom. All solid picks. I'm going to check into the Ozu silent films and see what I think of those but I'm a huge fan of his work. I think there's one more maybe that I've forgotten but I'll look. It's a great lineup for sure.

@@MovieChatter01 Stephanie, Late Ozu is a really good Eclipse box set if you want to get a really nice set of Ozu films. The silent films are not as good in my opinion. Maybe the dramas are okay but the crime films he did which are in one of the two silent Ozu Eclipse box sets I'm not really that fond of and I don't really think Ozu was really good at making gangster films. Ozu's strengths lays in everyday life and family affairs which he was extremely good at depicting. Just like, for example, I think David Fincher's strength is in making films with dark themes as compared to the Curious Case Of Benjamin Button where he was trying to make a film different from his usual fare but it just sticks out like a sore thumb.
I vividly remember watching secrets and lies…matter of fact I remember all Mike Leigh films affecting me like no other director’s. He made great films
I agree with you; he's fantastic. Have you seen Life Is Sweet? That's another good one from him but depending on where you live, the subtitles helped. The accent was heavy for me so I was missing a few things but with the subs, entirely different story. So good. .
