- LoloYodel 2 camera/angle video remix but this time with 100% 1st generation "Lazy Cow" (Angles One and Two) plus slight additional editing and visual additions....
This was the 2nd night of the now legendary Oct. 1989 Hampton shows under the billing of the Dead as "The Warlocks"
In addition to the spectacular renditions of each song, it was also the 1st Dark Star since Berkley 1984, the 2nd Death Don't Have No Mercy since 1972, the 1st Attics of My Life since 10-28-1972 and the 1st time Dark Star and Death Don't were played in the same show since 11-2-69 ...
Regardless of the "firsts", the playing here, from start to end, was simply ON THE BALL (in the wave, on target, whatever !). Enjoy.

Encore: Attics Of My Life
I still say 1989 1990 were as good as they ever sounded. Great years
Brent's voice never exuded so much pure soul. And his playing... so freaking good
My wife of 47 years recently found the end of the life cycle.. as we all will..both my sons understand this concept..wished so many more knew how important it is to be Kind, Loving and Civil..
Love Heals and Will Never Fade Away 🙏
that's beautiful, man. thank you.
God rest her soul, bless you!
I echo the previous statements respectfully and I hope your family is starting to find some peace. What u said touched me. I'm glad I saw it in a grateful dead thread bcz I know u have some sound coping mechanisms.
❤😪♥️
Rest in peace.
Sending LOVE, sorry brother
Jerry doesn’t get the respect for his guitar skills. Guitar lists used to least put him in the top ten in the 90’s. He’s already forgotten to way too many. His guitar playing is absolutely in the top 5. He’s incredible. He could roll those scales as good as anyone ever. His playing was dripping with style. Man is he missed
WHOOSHHHHHHH
(That’s the sound Garcia’s guitar makes going over people’s heads)
I saw a list where Jerry was number 49 behind Taylor Swift.
@@martinslade777 Jerry ... John .... Taylor COSMIC
There are many more technical players. But no one better at playing from the heart-with amazing skill. That’s just something a list maker will never understand, comparing people that’ll get them clicks.
I totally agree. Jerry is definitely top 5, though to me he’ll always be number 1.
The smile on Jerry's face. He found the sound.
No one ever delivered a song like Garcia. He is so deep in the moment of this and just presents incredible soul. I can't think of anyone close
The big Death Don’t return! Never saw it on video before. Good loud recording. God damn tell me Brent was the secret heart and soul of the band--pure raw emotion and devotion during his verse and solo-then it cuts to Jerry just wailing while biting his bottom lip. That’s how it is with the boys, one little detail like that made my night. Prayers and vibes for buddy Eric who is currently laying in his bed and dying. Needed some dark Dead tonight to fuel my mood
Death won't have any mercy on the 7 people who downvoted this video.........

This is THE best version of this song ANYwhere!
@@prophetsbourne1136 Man....one of em"....every time he sang this......it always ....was the best version to me.
As of 8/18/21, we're up to 15 of the shallow, hollow, soul less ghouls......
Or any of the rest of us, brother.
I was at this show standing near the soundboard on the floor. The crowd was completely amped for this song (and after they'd just gotten "Dark Star"). One of the best Dead moments I witnessed out of 50 plust shows.
I thank myself for every Grateful Dead show I attended. Each time was magic. I stood twenty feet away from Jerry Garcia and saw him smiling at Brent in Pittsburgh in July 87. I was a teenager, didn't have a ticket and bought them at the box office the day of. We all came separately, but when the show started I saw a dozen friends from high school there, over two hundred miles from home; it was a magnificent adventure. Those were magic times and they shaped my life and made me the man I am today. God Bless the music and the souls of the dead.
You speak the truth
What a wonderful story!
Lucky!!!!!
Exactly how I feel 🌹
I was there. I smiled at Brent too 🙂
So ridiculously classic it's unreal.....One of the most powerful DEAD performances captured on film and a highlight of the latter-80's period.
god Jerry can squeeze every last bit out of a note like no one else. so much raw energy in every note as well as every space between the notes. NFA!!!!!!

I don't trust people that don't like the Grateful Dead. Plain and simple.
Here here.
Jerry's second solo is one his finest moments of the Deads' whole 30 year career span.
This is how a Band should sound like, totally together, Love it!!!
They were, perhaps, the tightest band that's ever played
I've lost somany dear friends and fsmily. Recently this song makes me feel like this long strange trip is coming to am end
Remember life is beautiful, but no gets out alive.
God damn I miss Brent and Jerry!!!!
+Patrick Jordan
We all do
In My Opinion some of the best years.. If Pig Pen was with them it would be wow./
Thankfully so much live footage and audio lives on!!!
Fuck dude, me too!
my heart hurts. so do I
They better play this at my funeral.
Dark muddy river is my funera song sung by Norma Watson
For me it's a toss up between this song and many rivers to cross
I've got an entire list for my funeral
My wife has it. I add to it at least a couple times a year
The opening to sweet Jane off rock n roll animal, Lou reed... nuff said
Amen
This is beyond moving. Beyond beautiful and sooo heartfelt. I thank my lucky stars that I was able to see this.
I still miss Jerry so incredibly much.
me too. me too. i'm not much, but if you ever need to talk. or email. yeh. k. peace.
Watching this really is sad. Here he was at the absolute top of his game. Six yrs later he was gone. I really miss him.
I never used t o like the Dead as I had only listened to corporate radio, until a good friend turned me on to songs like this. Now I get goose bumps and a tear in my eye. I will never not think of her when I'm listening to them.
Just spine tingling. Jerry was just incredible at making that guitar make surreal sounds of fire.
Wow, always thought Live Dead version of this song could never be topped. This is powerful.
My thoughts exactly
same here man. same.
These guys have experienced a lot of death in those 20 years
@@psst...heyyou6508 No doubt. And this was before Brent passed.
There has been, and there will only be one Jerry Garcia. Same goes for Brent Midland.....I dearly miss them both.
Not a fan of Brendt
@@robfaulhaber8204 Who's Brendt?
@@robfaulhaber8204 why not? He was a brilliant blues man and nobody will ever play a hammonds b3 quite like he did. He and Jerry were both masters at ringing emotion out of every note.
Didn’t like his voice
Or his songs
One of my brother's favourite (if not his FAV songs). He's missing atm and I'm listening to his fav songs...
Never has death sounded so beautiful
Miss ya, Jer Bear...
Beautiful, but so very painful!!!
Jerry's shredding at some it's FINEST! I was there... ✌❤🎩💀🥀
I love this music))).
Just listening to Brent RIP...
A blink after him singing this verse and Brent was gone...
This is in my top ten of all time live recordings
Beautiful song played by a great rock And roll band RIP jerry Garcia
The height of there later day power's I saw a lot of shows but these two were truly something special!!!
Just smoking shows, put together as a gift for your Heads that missed out on all those amazingly great written tunes!! Each kick down was like riding Disneys Space Mountain through the Hampton “Starship” Coliseum, dopamine overload over and over!! This was a period of Dead tour when you hated missing any show, there were more kick downs in 88’&89’ than any other span of tour; the electric Ripple, Black Throated, Loose Lucy, Bid U Goodnight, Johnny Be Good, Here Comes Sunshine, California Earthquake, weather Report, Dark Star,DDHNM, and so many more!!!
this video is reason enough to keep on pushing thru life! god bless the grateful dead
my fav year in the 80s
Awesome never listened to the dead till I met the love of my life great music didn't know what I was missing!!!❤wish I got to see them!!
Guitar work is incredible here. It brings the song and lyrics alive. Emotions are high. Death.
...not sure if I noticed that beautiful interladen pic of Keith and Donna before in the eleventy millionty times I've watched this, but that's a beauty 👍
So appropriate for today!
This song is my anthem.
What an awesome version....One of the greatest Garcia solos EVER begins at 6:38
I agree -- Jerry did himself proud on this one.
Amen! This is the one we send into the cosmos for advanced civilizations to find
This never gets old !!!
El trabajo de Jerry Garcia a la guitarra es impresionante. Baja de un volumen super alto para controlar su voz cuando canta que alucinas. Uno de los mejores solistas en guitarra electrica de la historia !
Wow. Just, wow. I miss the boys so much.
DEFINITELY 1 of MY favorite versions! I love how Jerry started, Bobby took the next verse, Brent nailed the 3rd, & then they all sang the last verse together!
It's about when Brent kicks in that I'm driven to tears. Amazing version of this song. Probably in my top 5 all-time music performances of any genre.
Dude, this is un-f#%!ng-believable!! The intensity of their performance is mind blowing! Holy Cow!
oh my god that solo at the end is pure magic :). love u jerry :)
played this in Charlotte last night. 1st time I had ever heard
Love that Dead and Co revived this tune too. Hear one at Deer Creek this ost year (9/15/21) during their throwback second set (every song pre-1971)
I was at the 20+ year breakout at Shoreline and for the Faithful we were all in tears. The tapers were out of their minds.
Wish I was at the breakout but at least I was at this Warlocks show and got to see it played in its proper context: Dark Star>D/S>Death Don’t Have No Mercy!!! I remember turning to the guy next me and asking him: “Is it 1989 or 1968? Lol
wow is this amassing!!! i never realized how good this is.
Jerry’s playing on this is absolutely stellar.
the ending of that second solo is so perfect
Soooo heavy. Especially Brent’s singing.
This is the best version in my book.
Over 9-29-89??????
the best version of this song is by Rev. Gary Davis
Brent a on fire with himself and as always jerry steps it up to him, God I miss that the pure energy that was their amongst us ALL. Nicely done, great show love hampton. Still remember 91? I believe, it was w/ Bruce Hornsby and friends, yeah we like to party in Hampton a Lil to much back then. Much love to all, bless...
Holy shit!!!! That was AMAZING!!!!!
Jeez Bajeez .... this is damned good ... breathless
Beautiful version of Rev. Davis song

Thank you for your effort and attention to detail on this video!
this is swell and much appreciate but unless you were there you will never know how amazing the jam sounded on the floor that night, unreal , ,300 + shows and this right here was def a highlight... blessed
I was there with you brother and agree. Lifetime feels that night.
I was completely exhausted by the second night.
shut up
I never missed a Hampton show
This is killer.....unreal
Man the boys hit that one our of the park WOW!!!!!
I was there both nights. Stage right and other spaces. :-) Warlocks!
Mom didn't want me to see the Dead...but I told her I was going to see the Warlocks (ha!)
Me too!
This is so moving!
this is great
Love that little swagger Garcia does at about 5:53.
The strangest expression comes over his face when he's seriously pleased with his own playing,as in this case. I've seen it a few times in over 25 years of Dead and JGB concerts, but it's rare. You can see it when he's winding down on the closing solo of Morning Dew in the Alpine 07-19-89 video.
Sort of an ancient wizard look, almost predatory too.................

Happy birthday Jerry we all miss you so very much.
Hearing Wolf through his 80’s rig is just fantastic, my favorite of his guitars and just the best, clearest, most emotional sound. Carry on, Carry on....
Hell yes, give me Wolf all day, every day!
probably the best sound but I always liked the white as well.
@@rhlang11 Yes sir, if you're talking about the Travis Bean guitar, I love those years he played that axe! Saw a couple of smoking 77 shows when he played it. (Tuscaloosa and two in Atlanta)
@@tommathews3964 right - the travis bean. I never saw Jerry play w that - came a few years later but that had a certain sound I like.
@@rhlang11 I agree! I think Wolf was probably my all around favorite, but I was real fond of two others that never got the love......"Alligator" and the "Travis Bean". Hell, they all sounded great as long as The Captain was driving them!
Dang -- This AND "Dark Star" on the same night!
Wolf is so gorgeous.
Have mercy!!! 🔥
Lolo - you have outdone yourself once again. Don't know where you dig up these gems,but...please don't stop. As mjdorsten expressed so eloquently...Holy Shit!!!
Thank you,my brother! Jack
Wow its amazing and adorable video. Keep it up and stay blessed.
I had the good fortune to see this live...1 of the most magical runs of shows ever. This along with the 1st dark star in more than a decade were mind blowing (the attics encore from this night was spectacularly beautiful as well)!

Where are we when we lose somebody we care about? We are One step closer to the inevitable. Our mortality becomes visceral. When I close my eyes at night, my prayer becomes I will not wake up. Life is punishment enough. Please god, let me go😢
What a great guitar sound Jerry gets on his ride. Sounds like some of the best R&B guitarist using Les Pauls and Marshall stacks in the late 60s only better! 3:07, Man, he really makes that Wolf howl.
I can’t believe they didn’t play this more. So freaking good. I think if Brent didn’t pass away it would of been a mainstay. It’s sad to see the montage of past members who died at that point and Brent being a year away front his passing.
They played this usually after a tragic event. Listen to them doing California earthquake after the big earthquake in 89. They played a few days after and it was incredible.
They played this song a ton in the 60s and a tiny bit in early 70 but agree they need to bring this song back
Hey That's The WOLF!!!!
Yes indeedie.
Jerry could make that Wolf howl!!
Love it!!!
So fuckung cool, great tribute to pigpen, keith and brent 🤘
They played this the other night. 1st time in many, many years

Just like fine wine, South Carolina was there that weekend. Picked up a page of plain white for$100 in the parking lot.. Looked like it was perforated with a pizza cutter. But still to this day it was some of the BEST!!!! it was most definitely a batch of Owsleys>>
