SHORT MEI Hydraulic Elevators @ The Hotel Chicago - Chicago, IL

  • (7-30-19) Outside of this hotel in downtown, I noticed these two MEI elevators. My first assumption was they served more floors than the 9 steps next to it... nope. These two elevators literally serve 9 steps on each side, making them the shortest elevators I've seen so far. These will hold up a lot more than a wheelchair lift that's for sure!

    🤔These are quite interesting!! At least they run better then an ordinary savaria wheelchair lift

      The wheelchair lifts would probably be broken 60% of the time.

    Definitely seems overkill, especially two on each adjacent side...but you're right, these seem like they would hold up better than a wheelchair lift. They sure look cool though.

    They wouldn't even have to add a ramp... just paint a stripe on the adjacent driving ramps. That being said, I'm glad they put these in. They fit in perfectly with the rest of Marina City's odd (yet very pleasing) mix of googie, modernist, and brutalist styles throughout the buildings. They actually kinda look like they could've been put there in the 60s while the buildings were going up...

    The one thing I hate about mei's is that annoying floor passing chime. THEY NEED TO GET RID OF IT! Other than than, mei's are great

    Im surprised that elevator is there. I am not sure if an elevator tech would be able to get on top of it lol. And they spent the money to get two elevators instead of a ramp. And I am not sure if it is on but it could use the reflex.

    • @stlelevators
      @stlelevators  Před 4 lety

      They may have the reflex, but don't use it. That's a super common thing to see.
