Haha, I remember how I learned how to weld. At my old job, my boss was an old man...nice guy but he sucked ass at welding...looked like a line of chewing gum stuck in the joint. I never took any classes or anything, I just started messing with the machine after work and just practicing. The bosses son was the foreman there and he told me just do what it takes so the ol man won't ruin welds that we gotta look at. After a few weeks, I got pretty good then told the ol man let me have a crack at it. He about shit himself when I made a nearly perfect stack of dimes for a weld and just handed the stinger to me and said...this is your job now. And honestly, I suck at welding but for the purposes of what we were doing, it was fine. Now against this guy I'd look like a total choad. But that's ok, I never claimed to be great, I just like watching metal melt in a hot electric arc.

Amir Patel keep practicing, and burning rods. Everybody has that problem. You will eventually find the technique so scratching the rod against the plate that gets the arc started for you. This guy, and a handful of others on CZcams are good welding instructors, and you can learn a lot from them. But you will learn the most doing exactly what they are telling you and just keep burning rod until it comes naturally.

I've been watching these videos here from Sweden with a delight! Thank you for making the content public.
I'd like to see more "garagewelding" for us diy. Stickwelding that is :) Also more welding with smaller more portable models and some words on how this affects the approach.
One application for instance is thinn wall round tubing (construction steel) lying flat on a hardox 400 steel plate. Sort of like a diy hinge mechanism type of situation. How to controll slagg and how to make sure you mix well with the host materials when one is thinnwalled and the other very thick.
Also tip regarding hardfacing on the edge on 8 mm steel plates and on the face of similar steel steel. What to think about and how it affects the steel you're welding.
Fast, slow and moderate cooling and the effects on the host and electrode materials.
Also I'd like you to talk some about how vibrations and different types of bending affects the weld. End-craters, convex and concave form of a weld on 90 degree angles for instance. Very basic information but stuff that highly affect (at i guess so) how a skilled welder approaches a problem compared to me (a novice).
As you can see im a happy novice with almost no knowledge but if these videos could close some gaps between licens welder audience and novice i think you'll find a bigger target area of viewers :)

Here is a tip, that is more important than any other: always wear a respirator when welding, and have good extraction. Make this your top priority......welding can seriously damage your lungs, if you don,t protect them. Also, when using a hand grinder, always protect your lungs as well. Even if it did not kill you: it could give you chest infections, bronchitis, and new pneumonia. Make this tip: your number one priority: If you intend to weld long term.
