Love the pack. Very similar features to the U.S. Marine Corp i.l.b.e. pack . The smaller action is like an improved U.S. Army butt pack. Love the trekking pole holding feature.
There is just something about using a Zippo that seems just right.

Ive heard mixed reports of the quality of these rucks but I do know for a fact that the 3m x 3m tarp is great kit. There is a Finnish company that got DD to make them a 2.5m x 2.5m version that might even be better for solo trips when the standard poncho is a little small.

Yeah bro! Goldies are great! The sweetest natured of dogs. My boy is 24carat thru n thru, the best buddy a guy could wish for, bless him and all the other goldies.
Bred originally in Scotland, by wealthy landowners who wanted a dog which would retrieve game from water and be tolerant of the harsh cold of the Scottish winter on upland moors. There were about five different breeds from which they were bred, including, the Irish yellow dog, the water spaniel, the bloodhound and The Tweedsdale terrier (or perhaps spaniel ) and another I have forgotten. Sadly most of these breeds are extinct, but the legacy of their genes lives on in these wonderful, intelligent, loving, and loyal companions who share a life with us to this day. To have a goldie in your life is to be truly blessed.

Oddly, having searched for over a year for videos on the 2017 version of the DD Bergen, this is the first time your video has come up in the list (a year after it was posted, damn CZcams sometimes).
Like yourself, I too seperate the Action pack from the Bergen and wear it to the front, when carrying the Bergen. Then wear the Action pack to the rear, when carrying just the Action pack. The '10 C's of Survivability" fit very nicely in the main compartment, leaving ample space in the three 'outside' pouches/pockets for other items (along with 4 of the 'redendencies' and some doubling of items; extra compass, water containers, fire lighting kit, secondary knife, etc). So anytime I'm away from 'camp'...I've got 'everything' I need, should I NEED it.
As for the Bergen, I've had the DD Hammock Bergen 2017 since Nick first recieved the original production run back in March 2017. I had been in converstaion with him since Aug. 2016 about some 'redesign' and reconfigurations to the previous production design. The changes to the attachement straps on the pouches, bladder pocket, hose feed hole, PALS webbing (its not MOLLE webbing, its PALS webbing...that makes it MOLLE compatible) on the Action pack, side pouches and the main bergen have all been implemented (but I'm sure other's have made similar suggestions ). And I've been absolutely THRILLED with the backpack. I would have been absolutely over joyed to have PAID for the kit, but having Nick send me it JUST for suggesting changes...I'm even more elated with someone else speaking of how much they like the changes.
Personally, I find a Zippo to be less then desirable in the woods then another device (which uses lighter fluid) called a 'metal match' or 'permanent match'. Exactly as you demonstrated, the Zippo falls short when trying to light something from the top. A 'permanent match' is essentially a wick in a stick (tube actually) lit by sparking on a 'ferro' rod built into the device. Allowing the flame to be brought down to a fuel...much like...a match (generally Chinese made and less then $7). They tend not to dry out like a Zippo (some have reported the 'match' working up to THREE months after fueling; left closed and NOT having dried out), thus requiring less refueling, because the 'match' is sealed whereas a Zippo is not. But that fuel container you have for your Zippo would be a fantastic addition to a 'permanent match' to refuel IT, when it eventually requires refueling. The 'permanent match' flame won't last as long as a Zippo flame, the 'match' isn't directly fueled like the Zippo, rather its wick is 'saturated' while in the 'fuel resavoir' and burns what fuel the wicks have absorbed. But that's generally long enough, least, as long as most matches. Something to think about.
Keep enjoying the Bergen...and STOP getting it dirty....LOL (as a Bible teacher once told me, a pristine, non dog earred Bible is an UNread Bible..you get that bergen soiled and battered...its the BEST tribute you can make to kit you enjoy).

Re lighting your fuel. Get a thin small twig dip it in the fuel then light the twig and then light the fuel. Saves carrying two lighters my friend

Enjoy your channel. Was curious: here in the U.S., no matter where I go camping, ticks and mosquitoes are a bother. Some years are worse than others. It seems to be getting worse with the winters getting increasingly mild. Do you have as much of an issue with the little pests in the U.K.?

Velcro commonly loses its sticky when it s furred up. Teasing out with a comb helps prolong it's useful life. In garment and equipment descriptions it's often referred to as hook n loop fastening, which suggests that Velcro could be a brand name for the original product, and the possibility that generic fastenings of this type are frequently used and might not be a match for the quality of the original product. Either way, the comb trick can help a bit.

Those 'Action Pack' type bags are useful, you can get a fair amount of gear in them too - sort of a cross between a large EDC and small grab bag. SnugPak have been making them for some years now, known as the Response Pak. www.snugpak.com/military/military-packs-rucksacks/responsepak I'm lucky to have both the green and black versions on issue to me as technical grab bags (they're not going back..!) A little more expensive than DD, but the concept is the same. I'm sure you will enjoy your kit 👍🏻
