I use to not have much interest in the CD’s but watching Torvill and Dean dance them is absolutely perfect, HOW DO THEY DO IT? Their legs in perfect unison and body positions unique and gorgeous. And getting 6’s...wow!. They are undoubtedly the best ice dancers....EVER!
A huge thank you for posting this. I have come back to this video many times. A team that make cross-rolls look exciting (Paso Doble) a smooth and fast Rhumba and the easy elegance and sophistication of the Westminster Waltz and those deep deep edges. Sheer joy!!

I saw them rehearsing before Sarajevo on "The Today Show." As they danced on the ice in front of Rockefeller Plaza, it was like watching two pieces of one person. I was absolutely amazed, and have been ever since.
They are really the best dancers of his time, classical dancers on ice. Now there are those who better rides and spectacular is their program, but they are still the best. And now, after a while, you realize that their "Bolero" - an unsurpassed masterpiece!

This was similar to Michelangelo who could envision the sculpture in the marble before he started his masterpieces. I think T&D are to Ice Dancing what Michelangelo was to sculpture.
Chris and Jane are perfectly. Their skating site is perfectly matched. And they look amazing together on the ice . Their balance of height, weight, talent and style is perfect.
The second clip is my favorite starting at the 2:00 min mark. Their legs are perfectly in unison. Superb ice dancing no matter what performance they do. Sheer perfection!
They were absolutely phenomenal!! I don't think I've ever seen another skating couple be so perfectly matched - in leg, body, arm positions, or so coordinated with the music - and smiling throughout the dance. I read somewhere regarding another Torvill/Dean video that they would NOT be Olympic Champions if they had competed against today's skaters. Christopher Dean chose their music, and in at least one instance hired a 50 piece orchestra to play the piece the way he wanted it played, choreographed most (possibly all??) of their performances. They paid attention to every detail of a performance - perfectly matching each other in both physicality and technique. I am SURE if they were in their 20's and in the world competitions in 2023 - that Torvill and Dean would be more than capable of the caliber of uniqueness, physicality, musical interpretations and THEIR UNCANNY ability to skate as one - while satisfying all requirements of today, accumulating the necessary points to be Olympic and/or world CHAMPIONS. I personally believe that they were led to each other to be skating partners and that they have NEVER BEEN MATCHED by anyone, anywhere, in any competition at any time. I bet I'm not alone in thinking this!
Unmatched beauty, style and technique: even today no one comes close. Stupendous. **Update** Just watched their compulsory dances again: that Paso Doble is unmatched for all time IMHO.

Elaine Culbert truly skillful ice dancers which reaped reward, now let's think about the sacrifice they both had to give to get there, not the odd practice now and again, but day's month's year's of endless work still not knowing you will get there, you are very brave to believe in your own ability very lonely path to tread, Well done Great Britain's so proud of you,
Elaine Culbert Torvell & Dean can never be bettered, on the ice they danced as one, yes they practiced for hours, days, months. but the rest could practice for years together and not come close to these two, They are simply the BEST NEVER TO BE REPEATED 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
@Robin Cousins I watched your performance for the 1st time 30+ years after you left amateur sport. But I tell you that even so many years after, not a single skater could have matched the elevation and elegance of your jumps. May be such fit is still in the future...
yup, judges did not like when they knew the rules and pushed to revolutionize the artistry and and athleticism of ice dancing. Thank you Torvill and Dean.
I've been to two Worlds' (1987 & 1992) and both times during the ice dance compulsories the stands were sparsely peppered with people. I think the compulsories were really interesting to watch.
I saw some ice dancing competition on US TV a few months ago and it seemed to me more like pairs. Most disappointed; not the elegance, imagination, perfection of this couple.

When Ice Dancing was added to the Olympics for the first time in 1976 there were certain rules set by the IOC and ISU to separate it from pairs. Overtime, with big lifts and jumps bringing in more economic profit, those rules have faded.. Just take at look at the 1990 Season where they got rid of Singles Compulsories, it was for the profit!!

Now, it's three twizzles, twists, and BORING. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Chris and Jane still have their Ice Dancing competition on British television. That's the only place that you will still find Ice Dancing, that IS Ice Dancing.
I just can't get over how very precise they are. Perfectly in step with each other. There will never been another Torvil and Dean!

Some people say CDs were boring. But T&D's CDs are fascinating to watch. Absolutely the best ice dancers ever.

It's now 2019 and it's rare to see ice skating at all. And to see results in the newspaper is even rarer.
