- Hyper Olympic aka Track & Field: the best athletics videogame ever released. Several conversions were made for home computer systems but none of them matched the original coin op machine with its speech synthesis and classic sound based on the SN chip (yes, that one often used by Sega in their systems and consoles like Master System or even Mega Drive...)...

Although I have never been a great lover of sports-themed video games (except car racing), I simply loved this game when I was a kid. The idea to running my character in sync with the speed the keys were tapped, gave me an idea of great empathy with the game and interactivity (in an age in which I didn't even know the meaning of this word). Also, I don't know why, but I really liked those little men, athletic versions of Super Mario, all of them equal to each other but the colours. From an early age I noticed a surprise: sometimes is visible a the little man with the key that is seen running under the audience. He is the protagonist of another arcade game: Tutankham (1982 Konami). A real Easter egg!
So nostalgic.. I was so bad at this game, but I enjoyed it like a cold beer in a Summer's afternoon

I remember this at Mentone Ten Pin Bowling in the early 80,s ... The buttons were worn out 👍

I remember when the Olympics came when we was younger we all ran to the arcade to play this game to try to put our name up top for number one

I was 11/12yo
I used to put my fingers in a Kinder Egg capsule to slide over the run buttons, particularly good on machines where the buttons were arranged in a close triangle.

I remember using a cigarette lighter back and forth across the running button to get more speed. Good memories. Good times.

NO CHEAT and this is why:
I remember playing it in a pup in Belgium back in '83-''84...also remember that instead of buttons to tap and run it had a joy stick you had to move quickly back and forward.
This made it possible to run much faster/improve results during the various jumping / throwing events
This coin up machine stood in a public pup, so fair play guaranteed an NO cheating
I recall that continually pressing the "run" keys during the various jumping / throwing events would improve the results.

me and my mates smashed all records on this game back in the 80s working together in game. 1 person would look after each button. To maximise speed we used a plastic coin tube over your finger and rubbed it across the button rather than tap it. Good times
I thnk this was also called "Track & Field" @the 7eleven where i used to play it as a kid...🙃

@@wutang6020 hypersports has weightlifting, bow n arrow, swimming, trap shoot. and some funky ass triple long jump too.....and like billygunn said, this game was also called track n field

Several summer in the 80's I had missing patches of skin in my palm.
I always used to use a AA battery to run back and forth over the run button really fast to make the guy run faster
how do u run so fast? you only use left ctrl to run right?

Pressing the button halfway through the last box should get at least 90 m in the hammer throw.

I have track and field on Xbox and I can't remember how to do the high jump
At the arcade we used a lighter to roll over the 2 buttons instead of trying to push them.
Getting 2 deliberate fouls and then qualifying on your last attempt to get the mole 👍👍😂😂
