  • I've recorded a lot of GoPro driving videos for Bring-A-Trailer auctions, and I thought I had seen it all. But sometimes they still surprise me.
Today I'm telling you how to avoid some mistakes, and get good, presentable audio and video with no fuss, and without a lot of equipment.
Rent a GoPro on Lens Rentals: www.lensrentals.com/rent/gopr...
(I do not get any compensation from Lens Rentals)
Or buy (I do get Amazon affiliate monies):

I love all your videos, and am currently devouring them after not being aware of you previously. Incredibly charming, well-presented advice and knowledge. Thanks so much for making them.
One note. In this video you say you edit the videos so "the faster driving is at the beginning." I know why, and it makes sense, but I have done this as well, and unless viewers know the car is already up to full operating temperatures you risk getting blasted in the comments for "hammering the car before it is warmed up." So it might be wise to let everyone know the car is at full operating temps before they see you accelerating hard and hitting higher rev ranges.

Great tips! I‘ve done 11 & 1 a couple times lol. Only on a long road trip when you’re getting bored & tired after driving for 3hrs straight

Really enjoy these videos!. Any tips on recording slow motion panning detail (aka cinematic) shots of a car? Like when folks do up close slow mo pans of wheels, brake calipers, etc? Bonus if you can tell me how to do those with my GoPro Hero 9!

Thanks so much! I have trouble getting footage that looks really good with a GoPro, but I think it's possible. If you drop the resolution to 1080, you can shoot at 120 or 240 frames per second, which will allow for some nice slow motion (on Hero 9 Black at least). Shooting at high frame rates turns off Hypersmooth stabilization, but the nice thing about slo-mo is that is that most movements look pretty smooth when slowed down that much.
One trick I like to do (with any camera) is put it on a tripod (or monopod), and hold the tripod upside down by its feet. You can make gentle movements, and the weight of the tripod/camera acts as a natural steadicam to make the movements look more organic. And if you're trying to get details of wheels and calipers, the camera is in a much more interesting perspective, right off the ground. I hope this helps!

@@capturingthemachine Thank you so much, this is incredibly helpful! As you mentioned I was worried about turning off the hypersmooth at the higher framerates but that makes sense that as I slow it down it shouldn't matter as much.
I also have a Lumix ZS100 M4/3 camera that I could potentially use for these shots but not sure if it'd be better or worse than the GoPro.
That's a great tip about the upside down tripod too, thank you.
FYI this video does some pretty good slow motion detail shows in the opening scenes: czcams.com/video/AU5W0Ssk3RY/video.html

@@AtypicalDriver oh yeah, those are some beautiful shots in that vid! I don't know much about that specific Lumix camera, but I shoot video with a Lumix GH5, and I think the Lumix will get a much richer picture quality, range, and colors compared with the GoPro. Especially for that sort of thing, you're not asking it to do much focusing (in fact I would switch off autofocus for those types of shots).

Hello just found your video thanks for the info I’m trying to sell my Corvette and I’m having trouble getting videos from CZcams to bring a trailer and hoping you could help
I have the link from bring a trailer on my computer at home, that’s not the problem
The problem is I don’t know how to get the video from either my iPad or my phone or if I buy a GoPro from those devices to the bring a trailer link
    I’m not very tech savvy
Appreciate any help you could give

I don't know, I'm not much of a tech reviewer - I usually get the newest, highest spec I can afford, and am always just a little disappointed. 😅
For this I had the Hero 7 Black; since then I've gotten the DJI Osmo Action 3, and it's also just okay. The front preview screen on the newer cams is really helpful for setting up unusual shots.

its crazy to think that people drive in other ways than 9 and 3. No other way is comfortable!!

    • @capturingthemachine
      @capturingthemachine  Před 2 lety +1

yes! When I learned to drive, they taught us 10 and 2, which is fine, but when I did track days they said 9 and 3, and it really makes the most sense.

When I drive long distance I do 4.5 some times and sometimes 6 and sometimes 7.5 and both arms rest top of my legs lightly, but when traffic get busy then I hold differently, it's depends on the situation. I'm driving for more then 23 years.
