My bike had also been sitting a year , got it running and was really confused on why the clutch wont disengage , cant wait to go home and try this method!
Not being a mechanic I wouldn't think of opening up the clutch. I tried this and in less than 24 hrs. the clutch is working! Amazing! Many sincere thanks.
The clutch on my Suzuki 650 bandit got stuck after leaving it for 6 months. Strapped lever up, left the engine running for 15mins to get it hot. Went back 2 days later, every thing good. Thanks for the video.
Just started having clutch issues and found a couple methods of getting the clutch free and this one is nice because it's less harmful on everything thanks dude I appreciate your time uploading the vid
Dude I'm so glad I found this video... I have the exact same motor... they sent me a replace because of it and still had the exact same issue... so now I have 2 of them engines sitting with that problem... thanks... I've really been stressing over this
I have an 83 shadow that's been sitting for four years and clutch is stuck so I hope this works, I just rebuild engine and carbs. The clutch is only thing left to fix. Fingers crossed
Got a aprilia rx 50 2003 with a rs50 engine in the issue I’m having is like everyone’s I’ve adjusted the clutch 60k times lol, but now come to terms the plates are stuck I don’t wanna strip it but when I pull the lever in and click her into gear she wants to just ride regardless of holding the lever in or not gonna try take her for a ride soon and keep hitting on the old rear brake to see if that also helps but how does this help
The clutch plates are supposed to be wet. When they dry out is when they stick together. Slightly overfilling with oil allows them to soak it up. Zip tying the clutch lever in keeps pressure on, so as the plates soak up the oil, they will eventually separate (usually). It also helps to lean the bike to the side that the clutch is on.
pretty sure i got the same issue on a cheap chinese 150cc bike I got starts right up and clicks into all gears but clutch pull is really hard and when i put it into gear when running it does nothing so I think its not engaging/disengaging put vice grips on lever today hopefully that'll fix it by tomorrow
The other thing that can happen is the linkage can get turned around where the little lever thing comes out of the case. If you disconnect the cable you can spin it around 180 and see if that helps.
My sv650s 05 was running beautifully. Went to go to work and bam, clutch will not disengage. I adjusted it according to the manual and it didn’t fix it. Adjusted it 50k more times according to online forums and it didn’t work. Looked into it as much as I could without actually dismantling the clutch plates and everything seems fine she just won’t budge. Gonna try this technique and see how it goes. Reallly cba removing it all so praying this works.
Excellent question. The type of beer doesn’t matter too much-as long as it is not Blue Moon or Corona. The only time it’s acceptable to drink those beers is if you’re working on your girlfriend’s (or boyfriend’s) moped.
@@lobbo232 I had a bad experience with hard cider as a teenager and have not touched the stuff since. However it could be a suitable substitute in this situation. Please report back with your findings.
It is a 1974 XL 175. The swap is pretty easy - you just have to fab a couple motor mounts on the front of the engine. I tied the new motor into the old harness but if I had to do it again, I would rip the old harness out and get a new one for the Chinese motor.
No… those work on centrifugal force - they aren’t connected to the shifter. You could try tipping it to the clutch side (usually the right) and letting it sit like that, but changing the clutch in those is super easy.
@@Droy3774 sorry, did not work, ended up changing the clutch cable for the correct one even though the one on there worked. Took the cover off and cleaned all plates out put her back with new gasket and she never worked better! Smooth.
If the bike has a wet clutch (which I think it does), it should. Just overfill the oil slightly and lean it to the clutch side (usually the right) and let it sit.
I will review the footage. The Bigfoot Hounds are trained to alert when a Squatch approaches the perimeter so I would be surprised (and disappointed) if they were slacking.
Never had a stuck clutch. And now I have 2 bikes with the problem. The pesky 450 Honda came to its senses when I kicked it in gear with some send it attitude. Well... My 83 GSX 1100 has a ziptie on the clutch lever and is a lil overfilled with oil... Cause she responded violence with even more violence and I almost rode her through the freaking wall. I might jack the rear tire up and try the gentle route... Just got her painted so I aint gonna go full send anymore. Lets see if this trick works. If you dont hear from me... That means she got me.
@@603Bigfoot Had to open her up but now she works. Them plates had seized really good, I had to pry em apart even after soaking. I had some other problems too to solve so I took the "right" route. I mean I was gonna go just send it but I had fuell and ignition problems... And in the end it was the simplest dumbest thing to get the thing running, the damn plug boots were rotten. Before realizing it I had taken the carbs out and cleaned em and this bikes carb set up is pure evil to take out. Then went all the freaking connection over with multimeter and measured that the other coil was bad, ordered new ones and the next day took the boots off and realised that they were bad. But atleast it works now, thats allways a plus.
My guy...I had my 1990 GSXR sitting for 14 years, put new clutch plates and it was sticking, clutch engaged and in first gear it was pulling forward. So i zip tied the clutch for about a day and half (COLD ENGINE). And it actually loosened up about 90% Felt comfortable enough to ride down the street, warmed up the engine, gave it some nice revs! now i'm gonna let sit again and grab my beer. Thank you sir!
It can be, and a lot of times it is, that easy. And if it’s not, you are not out much other than a zip tie and a few beers - both of which you’d likely consume either way.
I assume the oil has to be drained back down to correct level...Just so viewers will hopefully remember to do this...
Yes, correct - thank you. I should have mentioned that.

On the beer stage. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
Great video! I’m going to try this out with a Guinness or 2… or 3… or 8.

The other thing that can happen with these motors is the lever where the clutch cable attaches gets spun around so it doesn’t engage.
One of the best how to videos ever! Worked like a charm.

Nice, short vid to the point!
Thanks!!
I have the same problem with my mb5. I gonna try it 🤞🏻
..and it works! I cannet ride it because it is not rideable yet. However, the clutch works and I can spin the wheel. Thanks!! 🤘🏻

how many beers for a clutch that's been sitting for 50 years?
That might require going on a weeklong bender.

Hardest part about this is I have to take the car out to get the beer 😒 fingers crossed
Love it. But what kind of beer? How specific does it have to be? Very important.

Can I ask what model bike that is and what engine that is? I have a model similar to that one and I’m thinking of swapping the engine

will this work with my manual shift, clutchless 4 wheeler?
if i zip tie the foot shifter up?

So what happened?

V45 Magna has this issue, just zip tied it, will update when it’s good again

shit i dont have beer arround ill better take it to the local motorcylce shop!
Shame on you! Any self respecting DIYer needs to have beer around… even if you don’t drink how are you going to get anyone to lend a hand??
