    How does a huge stadium roof, a surge barrier or a out of service cruise liner get from one place to another? This series tells the story of how huge objects move and this episode is about the process of stretching a ship: called jumboisation. If Archimedes said “Give me a lever and I will move the world”, today the answer is usually wheels and hydraulics. Lifting and moving massive machinery or structures is the speciality of a handful of companies and the equipment they use is often tailor made for the job, be they cranes, trailers, flatbeds, barges, and even ship carriers.
    Today the cruise industry is demanding bigger and bigger ships, since more passengers means more dollars. Instead of building expensive new ships, many companies are choosing to simply cut their old ships in half and stretch them to make them bigger. The process is called “jumboisation” and the world’s heavy lift companies are busy learning the best way to make ships bigger. It is a complex big engineering task. The cruise liners of today are two football pitches long and can weigh up to 50 thousand tonnes. Of course in the sea, weight is no issue, but what about when they have to be hauled into dry dock and cut in half? That’s where the world’s heavy lift companies come in. The program follows Heavy Lift company Fagioli of Italy, as they stretch a ship belonging to the MSC line along with leading cruise ship builder, Fincantieri in the Mediterranean port of Palermo.

    This show is very educational. It shows how much effort is put into engineering of ships. As a US Navy yeoman veteran, I am impressed with the cruise lines efforts to accomodate civilians wish to travel water. Too bad it is not more affordable for all economic classes.

    I was told to spread my savings across different things like Trade to protect and support my retirement. with everything being shaky,I'm considering going into Trade. i don't wanna make the wrong choice.

      you must have these things in mind
      1. Have a long term mindset.
      2. Be willing to take *risk*.
      3. Be careful, if you're not spending to earn back, then stop spending.
      4. Never claim to know - Ask questions and it's best you work with an assistant.

      Yo I didn't know Kate was this popular,my cousin trade with her for some months now, I tried but couldn't understand anything it's not my thing tho so I passed Lol. I can testify that trade pays very well because my cousin at 23 bought a house already.

      When it comes to Trade, I can confidently say that bitcoin is the best option. But most people think it's all about buying and leaving it to rise but It takes a lot more you need to trade it to earn daily.

    Normally these episodes are great. Love watching what goes into building massive machines. but this Episode could of been shortened to about 15 min. They repeat themselves 10-15 times thru the entire Episode.

    The writers, editors and producers should be commended for their efforts with this project. However, constantly hearing repeated previously stated information throughout each segment made this hard to watch to its conclusion.

    i really enjoyed this video, but there was to much fluff in it. i would like to have seen more closeup of the moving cutting and rejoining. the connecting of the electrical and plumbing. loading the bathrooms, and staterooms. also shown closeup after to refit to see where the joints where made. this was an ok video, but it could have been a great one with more close content. rather the pumping the builder.

    In Vancouver Canada their ferry service had three ships that were BOTH lengthened AND sliced horizontally to add decks ! Not done at the same time.

    Fagioli is also famous for working in Brownsville Texas on oil platform conversions and Boca Chica on the launch complex for Space X Starship. Fagioli translated from Italian into English means beans.

    65 thousand tons is still a light weight make it a 10065 thousand tons and then might be impressed they make
    the ship to narrow so its to easy to capsize the ship or to flip over on its side doubling its or tripalling its width
    would solve that

    Personally, I don't think the original designer of the ship's resistance structure agreed to change the structure by adding new sections. the change is made by assuming the responsibility of the new builder!

    when you cut a ship in half and pull the two parts apart, it does not leave a hole. It leaves a large space between two separate pieces of the ship. The Italians have invested a fair amount of time and engineering into this process and it appear to be successful. The attorney's saftey argument in this segment was pretty lame. If he really wanted to addres the a safety concern he should have mentioned where the liability and responsibility lies for investigating crimes from theft to murder on the ship while at see. I think a great many Americans on cruise ships think that high crimes will be investigated by American law enforcement because they boarded the ship at an American port. The actual responsibility for crime investigation is with the country where the ship is registered. Most people would be surprised to find out where some of these cryuse ships are regisered, mostly for financial and tax reasons.

    I do like the channel but how here they maked this like such a special thing...
    These ships are by far not the biggest ships kn the seas (Not even after the stretching), and the Stretching itself is everything but not new and they also did not created it, it was done by many shipyards since tbe 70ies with many ships, smaller, same size or even bigger...

    I don't do ships or airplanes, watched to many of the plane crash video's, and the titanic didn't help with ship's. I hate the kind of set up in the ship's, now a remake of the titanic would be cool.
