We put together this narrated General Knowledge CDL Practice test for future truck drivers looking to earn their commercial driver’s license.
This video contains over 40 questions and over 40 answers, all of which are variations of the actual Questions and Answers you will find on the General Knowledge
Test will you be taking at your local DMV. A passing grade for the General Knowledge Test is an 80%, which means you will need to get 40 of the 50 questions correct. Please keep in mind, the Questions and Answers will vary from state to state and test to test. In addition to this narrated practice test, Roehl has also produced multiple versions of the General Knowledge Test, which can be taken online at:

Please note: Each state has its own Commercial Driver's License Manual and drivers should always use their state's manual to prepare for testing, in addition to any practice test found online. Many states have their manuals available online for downloading and printing for your convenience.

I just got my North Carolina CLASS A CDL PERMIT yesterday 06/23/2022...
TIPS: Use the SKIP whenever you are unsure or don't know the answer. Utilizing the SKIP will allow u to answer all the ones you do know...which may help you get the amount correct needed to pass with the possibility of not having to answer and possibly getting them wrong... which could cs you to fail if u get to many wrong... The SKIP is definitely a method worth utilizing. Also, there aren't any True/False questions on any of the North Carolina's CDL Permit test whatsoever. These videos helped me pass along with The "CDL Prep App" a must use to pass!!! I hope me sharing my experience is helpful to you all in the state of N.C wishing you all great success... I learned over many years at a young age because my father owned trucks... it's not possible to learn what you really need to know in a matter of weeks.. you may pass the test but your education is just beginning.. take your time..pay attention... . BE BETTER !..38 years in trucking and retired in Florida now.....trucking is what you make it.

Doesn't matter for which state. It is a learning tool, use it. Some of these questions might be on any state's CDL test.

I have never used stab braking. I have driven trucks for almost 40 years. Stab braking is dangerous during any slippery road situation. That is an excellent way to lose control by causing the brakes to lock up.

The written was so easy. And take the entry level class online. It took 40 minutes. Skipped though everything and just answered the questions. If you can pass the permit test. You will not get any wrong on the entry level bs. Or take it in person 10 hours

How about learning how to drive first then the test will be easy. Oh WAIT. Idiots made the test so common sense will fail...better study the manual.

You can use this to study for your test there. Each state has their own study materials and tests.
I am guessing I don't need a general knowledge to get a CDL A since I already have a B with the Air Brake. I think I just need the combination test.

90% of these are common sense... the Air Brakes and Hazmat is what is tricky. For me atleast.

I missed two, the first true/false, I was too slow or the answer came up too fast and the 40' @55mph, didn't add the extra second for speed. Wonder if I could get a truck driving job? I've never studied for the CDL but I used to drive trucks, back in the 70's and 80's. Yeah, probably too old...

Do you need to take a drive test to get your CDL permit or just pass the Gen, Combo, and air brake test? Do I need it to start driving for Roehl? I use to drive these things 17 yrs ago but let my CDL lapse because I didn't think I'd drive again, but I miss it. I should have kept it. :(

So is the questions that we see here the same as on the test? I’ve got sent some practice test from Roehl but they said don’t memorize the questions and answers because they will not be on the test

I took the test today and a lot of these questions were not there. I know its a variety, but I guess reading the book will have to work. Other videos questions seem to show the same.

1:14 the answer should be more clear on what the pedal should do, example should the pedal stay up or down or go up slowly that is on the test i took the test on monday. you put it should not move where was the pedal at its final position after apllying pressure.

This is common sense. If you do not have a leak the pedal will not move after you have pumped it up. If there is a leak the pedal will move to the bottom you should then get out and find where the leak is.
Just read the book it gets very descriptive on what you should expect

How long is the contract?
120,000 solo paid miles.
So if I'm not mistaking. Roehl will pay for me to get my CDL and pay ME while training for my cdl. In return all I have to do is drive 120,000 solo paid miles?? CPM?
