      Did consider it but I wanted to keep it all under 4k and to do that I'd have had to insulate the pitch of the roof then board the whole pitch which would have been much more expensive. Plus I want to keep as much of the heat in as it's cold most of the time over here so we need insulation.

      Hey,
      Congrats on starting your project. There are links to things like the led clock in the description of the main gym build video.
      As for the mirrors, I can't find the ones I bought again but I bought them off eBay and there are loads of other similar ones available. They were just large perspex (not glass) gym safe mirrors. Cost about £60 per mirror.
      As for the wood, I just picked up some stud wood from homebase and cut and screwed it together.
      As for the blue LEDs they are literally just an led strip. I a 7m led strip. Amazon is your best bet for this.

    I just realized that most guys who show how they build home gym's don't look like they even lift at all. They waste money on heavy equipment they most likely are never going to use and rather focus on the aesthetics of the house gym than it's efficiency.

    You did an outrageous job converting the space. The ceiling and trim are excellent. I never saw another garage gym with flooring under the vehicle, cool points for that. With all the available room I wondered why you put the rack/smith so deep in the corner? Being a little further away from the wall would make plate changes a lot easier. The only thing about your video that I find distracting, is that instead of focusing on the space, the equipment, or even the renovation...the focus was on your face. EVERY TIME you narrated your face was the focus, you talked about the flooring, your face. You showed the equipment, your face. You showed your car yet the focus was on your face. Dude! I'm not saying that your unattractive but the title of your video is Ultimate garage gym build, not uncomfortably close up of my mug build. Besides all that, your gym is a very cool set up. It would have been a cooler video if the focused on the equipment. Leave the selfies to teenage girls.

    • @JamesBurford
      @JamesBurford  Před 4 lety +4

      Thanks. Yeah I'll probably pull the rack out a bit further, there's enough room, but when I was doing it I was worried about keeping enough space for the car too. You're absolutely right though, I just recorded random bits on my camera while doing it then pieced it together after with whatever I had, definitely too many close ups 🤣. Improved camera work next time for sure.

    Definitely liked what you done with the gym! I've ordered most of my equipment already but only missing on flooring, I'm not too sure on yours..how is it holding up in terms of noise reduction and is it easy to slip on? I was considering rubber flooring instead of plastic but quite expensive at the moment, maybe I go with plastic and just DIY a 6 x 4 olympic platform

    • @JamesBurford
      @JamesBurford  Před 4 lety +1

      The floor is really solid and super hard wearing but it's quite noisy as you can hear in the Q and A video where I bounce a plate off it. It can get slippery when wet so if you're lifting heavy overhead then I'd put something on top like a platform or at least softer rubber.

      As for the flooring, that's an tough one. The flooring is super strong, there's no way I'll ever wear it out but it does show the dirt so you have to keep it clean. So I actually jet wash it most of the time..
      However, if I were doing it again, I'd probably go for something that doesn't show the dirt as much, like a tough laminate floor or something, then just some mats or a lifting platform down if I'm dropping weights or something. Good luck with it, link me to some pics once you finish.

    Awesome! Did you plaster over the plasterboard on the ceiling? Or just fill the joins and paint over the plasterboard? I'm looking at doing something similar in my own double garage and wondering how to tackle the ceiling.

      The flooring is from a company called duramat.co.uk they have loads of different styles depending on your preference.

      I'd probably have gone with a flatter flooring. The one I chose has raised discs. I'm always in and out of there so it gets quite dirty and the discs make it harder to clean as the dirt gets trapped on the edges of it.

      Not expensive no, £15 per roll and it needed about 6 rolls from memory.
      As for the punch bag, I screwed a joist across multiple rafters so the weight is distributed across them rather than hanging it off just one joist.
