I was an ambulatory patient at the 1967 DaNang Christmas show at Freedom Hill. It was a great show, but the end of the show was something I will never forget. Over 10,000 lonely guys singing Silent Knight in harmony. I still choke up whenever I hear that song and remember that moment. A lot of those guys aren’t here to remember the beautiful memory of that moment of brotherhood.

I have total respect for Mr Hope ! Whether you liked him or not, he was there along with Racquel Welch and another young lady to try and entertain the young troops that day. I didn't get a chance to see his show while I was in Vietnam because my area of operation was extremely too close for their troop to take a chance of losing their lives. But I applaude him for his devotion to bring a smile on those young soldier's faces ! I am very proud of his action's ! Rest In Peace Mr. Bob Hope !

(Thanks for the memory); lady asks Bob and man with a cane to remove a bat that flew into her flat. They enter the flat. Man with cane; "so where's this bat?" Lady; "I don't know." Man with cane to Bob; Ok, where would you hide if you were a bat? Bob Hope; "You're thinking of a horse!" 😂😂😂❤🤣🤣🫡

A bit young to be stolen to "serve", (serve what? we did not know), but you see reality better than the guy who started this thread, (He got good grades in college I am sure). If we do not know we are fighting for the philosophies of individual liberty that created the USA exceptionally, than we have no idea what we were really fighting for. Thank God for Ann Rand. It is actually traceable that she ended the draft, (free people should not have their kids scooped up for war against their will, not freedom), with a friend of hers as an advisor for Nixon. I do thank you though man for your patriotism, (and glad you are here to tell a bit of your story, still living). I just wish we had patriots as your bosses. I think those patriots died after WW2.

No major issues. Had 28 Corvettes so far and hope to end the collection with at least 30. That started just before I got drafted with a 63 Split Window Coupe which I had to sell in a hurry bc LBJ would not take over the payments. Promptly got another SWC in 68 with my chump change Army savings when I got back to the world. It will all end soon but the memories will last forever via CZcams et al. That was a good show and life has been a good show. Now it's someone else's turn at all this.

LBJ sent me "Greetings for Induction" but he failed to pick up my monthly payment on my SWC Corvette which had to become a quick forced-sale. I made up for it on the other end. My best buddy was not lucky either. He was 1st Cav Infantry KIA one month after in-country. They named a park after him in MA. Never lived to have a family. Sad!

When I look at these shows, I can’t shake the feeling that I’m looking in the faces of brave, radiant young men who SHOULD have had their entire lives ahead of them. This is one of MANY conflicts that our country should not have been in. To be able to see this recording taking place during such a pivotal time in world history is fascinating to say the least. You’re looking in the faces of many people in that audience who didn’t make it. But they were there for a special moment in time, that only TRUE entertainers can create. An oasis in a time of peril. For all of the suffering to come, a fleeting moment of joy. It’s the sacrifice of men like these who make it possible for us to argue over the silliest things that don’t even matter, freely. All people care about now are themselves. God bless that era of entertainers and humanity. We will NEVER see the likes of it again.

Those men were willing to fight and die to stop Communism. Today Communism has taken our country from within, and where are those who are willing to fight and die to stop it? They are nowhere to be found. In 1964 I joined the Marines to go fight Communism in Vietnam. It's time that the present generation step up to the plate. Since that won't happen, there is no other conclusion to come to but that the country is lost.

I saw Bob Hope at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina after the Western Carolina football game in 1983. He was 80 yrs old and honestly was kind of frail and not very funny. I understood the importance of this man as I watched him - He was really a legend and I'm so happy I got to see him in person. I just watched this entire video on his 1967 Christmas tour for the troops and found myself tearing up several times. He brought joy to men in combat, a pretty great thing.

I had the opportunity to see 3 of his shows in Anchorage Alaska where I served in the US Army in the 1960s. 2 of the shows were mini versions for a small group of GIs at the Nike Missile Bases around Anchorage. Since I worked on the Radars there, I had clearance to get into these shows. About 100 people in attendance and it was up close and personal. I will never forget those times. He looked kind of shocked when he saw me and my dad watching them from a distance. I guess because he didn't expect to see a kid in this restricted area of the base. He called us over and he picked me up and said hello. He proceeded to practice and we got to see the whole show. I don't remember if Raquel was there though.
