it's 2023, megaman x4 is still something different from another game, what a fantastic, i love it
X4 was like one of the first Rockman series that I completed as a child. It was a time when there was little to no internet access, no FAQs, no guides. Just straight up exploring. It was so fun to find the armors, tanks, secrets. Seeing how the bosses flinched when you used a blaster that was their weakness. Damn... I miss my childhood gaming times.
Me and some buddies were just talking about this last night. Felt like there was more soul in older games

cant believe i beat the game until the end with only the boot upgrade when i was a kid...years later i found out there is another cool upgrade can be found in the game

Same. In fact, it has been my experience in almost all the X games, except X7 which i never completed because it was bad and X6 where I just unlocked Zero

In the manga; X doesn't recieve the 4th armor via capsule. He finds a capsule behind (if I recall correctly) a waterfall containing the ultimate armor. Dr. Light warns X of the power it possesses and that it can have negative impacts on his software. X felt he needed it and took the armor. He ended up mercilessly killing a couple mavericks before coming to his senses. Only then did the ultimate armor break off like he achieved ultra instinct and finally dawned the 4th armor.

i beat this game without any upgrade when i was a kid, dying like crazy and raging like hell, then i finally found out there are upgrades

Darjinero i would believe if you said "with only leg armor". There is a stage where you can jump and dash because you can't pass through this part without leg armor. Say goodluck to the spikes that even a long jump is not required. If i remembered it correctly, it was the stage where the arm armor is located

The purple tank give you 4 lifes on reset, instead of 2. Biggest mystery of my childhood, solved
more isn't always better, megaman franchise have bad mechanism, especially on x4, if you run out of lifes, you can choose restart at the checkpoint, x5 and x6 as i remembered, if you run out of lifes, you start from beginning of the stages
Yagami 0128 nope, you have that backwards, the purple tank is only useful in X4 since when you game over you have to restart the stage, in X5 and X6 game over sends you back to last checkpoint

The glory days of the first ever playstation! Megaman x4 was my favorite and will always be, damn when i got to enter the cheat code for the Nova strike armor.... X was a god!!!! I miss the thrill of games back then 👍👍

Funny thing about the Heart Tank in Magma Dragoon's Stage. You actually don't need the Electro Web, nor Zero's Double jump to get it. You just have to dash jump in perfect timing and you can make it.
I remember playing this back in my teenage years. So awesome this game. I enjoy it so much, especially the cutscenes.
At this point in the series X should have the following reaction to Dr.Light's always current knowledge of situations that have arisen...
Dr.Light: This battle never should have happened, X...
X: Okay, I'm going to stop you right there dude. like, are you alive, or what the hell's going on with you knowing current events? I'm a robot and even I know a human can't upload their entire BEING into a capsule.
Dr Light: Um well...you see...LOOK OVER THERE! (points behind X and he turns)
(Dr.Light jumps out of the capsule and runs away yelling whoop whoop whoop like the 3 stooges)

i played as zero when i was young. quite challenging because of his lack of range attacks, but it was fun. really had to dodge attacks and wait for openings to strike

I played this when I was 8, now I'm 14, and gaming would have never been the same for me. This was the best platformer and will always be in my heart. Although I have to admit I did play as Zero at first and that was a lot harder than playing as X BUT WHATEVER

who chooses the 4-charged x-buster over the monstrous plasma shot?

I suppose the 4-charges buster do almost the same damage to bosses, as the bosses have that invincibility time that makes them immune to the balls that the plasma shot leaves...

I used to because it matched everything. lol
The plasma shot only works if the boss only hits it and not the initial buster shot... If the boss only touches plasma shot they wont get invincibility frames and recieve consistent damage until the shot decays or he leaves that spot... So its understandable why the storaged charges can be better in many situations... As its basically a quick way to drain a third or more of the bosses health in a very quick amount of time
it was the first megaman i played... and it is still my favorite, even being very easy, i think that is the best made of all x saga (don't belive too much in me, i know that maybe it is a little bit subjective), but i have a good controls, gave to zero new passive abillities (that after the x5-6 used as chips), and and have one of the best non-secret armor of the game...

It’s definitely the best of the X series. Good story, good gameplay, great soundtrack, best level design in my opinion, it really was where I think the series peaked.
5, 6, and 8 were alright, having good gameplay. I think 5 lacked on the story a bit. 6 had a better story, but there were parts of the game that just felt like BS, like the Dynamo battle (whoever thought that battle design was good needs their head examined). 8 was pretty well rounded actually, providing a decent challenge, but it has a significant difficulty spike when you get to Sigma’s Palace.
7 just sucks. The voice acting is atrocious, and Axl’s play style isn’t fun, since you need to kill with the copy shot, which does no damage, and the enemies still attack while disguised. Also, the 3D mechanic was broken and desperately needed a free moving camera, and the tag team mechanic was flawed, since there was no incentive to switch (something X8 fixed) and I could just beat a stage solo as Zero 9 times out of 10. It just wasn’t fun and is the black sheep of the series, I think.
Cyber Peacock's first two sections for heart and sub tank can be S ranked with just running. There is an optimal path for them. No need for dash nor Soul Body. Try it for fun as an extra challenge.
The third one without soul body is very challenging and fun.

I never played as Megaman X. I enjoyed the fact that zero was fully playable this time. Also he doesn’t require Armour upgrades or weapon refill. Don’t remember the heart containers nor energy tanks. I did beat the game however.

When you restart the game you will be given 4 lives every time. Very useful for beginners!

Hey, I’ve tried your code for Black Zero several times and I can’t seem to get it to work, is there some weird detail I’m missing or something I could be doing wrong like pressing a button I’m not supposed to or at the wrong time?
Edit: Apparently I had to do the entire code on the select screen for Zero, when I thought I had to do it throughout the loading screen.

So I'm playing through the legacy collection on steam and it's really amazing how much they changed from X3 to X4. Everything in terms of design aesthetic is so different, and even though it's charming that they added voices, why does Mega Man X sound like a 9-year-old and Zero sound like an edgy teenager?
I wish they added the Saturn version with the animated intros for X3. I've always wondered about that bizarre VO choice. They eventually fixed it later in the series.
Simple answer: it was another time... Back then, being an English speaker in Japan was enough to land you a VA job for projects like these, and while it's admittedly very goofy, I can't help but find it charming in its own right

I'm not sure about the not letting go of L1 and R2 for X and the 0 for Zero until they spawn in Sky Lagoon. When I use this cheat after I input the needed buttons I do not hold any buttons after the character is selected anymore and still works fine.
I'm using my procedure from an old cheat code book I used to have. Yours probably works just as well.

i played through this game a couple days ago.... it made me start to cry. everything about it. i remember getting this game for christmas when i was a little kid and it just... its so fucking sad. the entire game. zero killing iris. dragoon being duped by coloniel. its fuckin sad.
I feel X4 is when stories getting more dramatic and have more depth. I know thats weird to say for a MegaMan game but its true. Even when Zero has those flashbacks of killing reploids

sub-tanks only do health. The W-tank is for weapons

I'm having trouble getting Black Zero on Megaman x collection.
I press R1,Right 6x,let go of R1, hold circle, press start (to skip cutscene), press box while holding circle (to finish zero dialogue) and let go of circle after he spawns but he's still red.
Always wondered why when you get the Ultimate armor for Xwith the cheat Dr Light says its not completed
It wasn't complete because it still had safety issues by the time the real Dr. Light passed away. Had it been perfected, X would have been pretty much invincible even without the nova strike.
I’m an old player and I definitely can’t remember them. I know in one there’s a time trial for a body armor
I thought Black Zero is much stronger, also never knew the Fourth Armor(?) can do Nova Strike.

uraharaYorrch Zero black armor had no buff at all sadly , but back then i'm just convice myself that it would reduce damage from the enemy attack and make zero dash faster, i found out the hard way though :(
