  • He’s finally set the date. Late this afternoon, Rishi Sunak made a surprise announcement, calling for an election on July 4.
Kamal Ahmed and Camilla Tominey rush back to the studio to give their snap reactions on why now and what happens next, joined by former Brexit Secretary David Davis.
Plus, they scrutinise the tearful testimony of former CEO of the Post Office Paula Vennells after she finally appeared before the inquiry into the Horizon IT scandal and ask, will anyone ever be held accountable for the harm done to sub-postmasters?
They also reflect on the MP Craig Mackinlay’s remarkable return to parliament six months on from a life-threatening battle with sepsis which led to the amputation of both of his hands and feet.

Makes no difference, Reform voters in my opinion would rather waste their vote than give it back to this Tory party.

Perhaps Reform could win the election.

This is an election for the millions of Tory voters, myself included, who feel betrayed and wish to enact revenge, even if it means a chance for Labour to prove their not as terrible as we know they almost certainly will be. Hence I'm voting Reform. If they don't put up a candidate and there's no Independent or Monster Raving Looney Party candidate, I'll spoil my ballot

The tears of the Torygraph are delicious 😂

  • @lavienestpasunlongfleuvetr2559

Vile Vennells needs to dry her tears. She was stone cold when her subordinates were wrongfully convicted, so her emotion now is worthless.

My God! Who planned this announcement? He’s being rained on and someone is playing loud music to drown him out. No pun intended. His bags are already packed for Santa Monica, California after he loses. It’s no surprise he picked July 4-America’s Independence Day-as the day he ends his time in the UK.

Makes no difference to those that died their own lives as a result and makes practically no difference to those still whose lives and livelihoods were ruined for years because of the Post office scandal.

It is going to be interesting to see if the Labour Government will continue to block the sale of the Telegraph, as the Tories have; this pair of beauties really shouldn't be wasting their time pyscho-analysing Sunak, and should, instead, be updating their CVs or familiarizing themselves with the Universal Credit application process?

Has Sunak has been advised that the economy could get worse before November. If so, he may be going now, when there's recently been better economy news.
But why announce July 4th now, and not in a couple of weeks?

Sunak will be living in the US in a few months. Sunak's more concerned with his CV and his future political career that will have nothing to do with the UK.

At last Rishi is showing backbone, in my opinion he is calling an early election because he is confident that he will be able to convince people that his plan is working and also let the country chose what sort of government they want. Why should Rishi carry on putting up with all the negativity from his own MP’s and Teheran general public.enough is enough. If British people vote for Labour they will regret it big time because they would be a disaster for our country

If British citizens choose the Labour Party or any party other than the Conservatives, it could potentially transform their nation into an Islamic state.
